CHAPTER 3 — THE TRUTH BENEATH THE NAME
The woman brought Lina back to the estate that night.
Not as a stranger.
But as something she could not yet name.
Inside the locked study, she opened a safe she hadn’t touched in years.
Inside was a second folder.
Hidden.
Unregistered.
The real record.
Her hands trembled as she read.
Two infants.
One declared deceased.
One transferred under “emergency relocation protocol.”
Her breath stopped.
“Relocation…” she whispered. “To where?”
A final signature at the bottom answered everything.
A name she recognized.
The family lawyer.
The same man who had handled her inheritance.
The same man who had insisted she never look deeper into the medical report.
Behind her, Lina stood quietly.
Watching.
Waiting.
The woman turned slowly.
Her voice broke completely.
“They didn’t lose you…”
A pause.
“They took you.”
Lina didn’t understand everything.
But she understood enough.
“Am I… your daughter?” she asked softly.
The room fell silent.
The woman walked forward, stopped just inches away.
For the first time, she didn’t look like someone powerful.
She looked like someone who had survived ten years of a lie.
“I don’t know what they did,” she whispered.
Then her hand trembled as it reached toward the girl’s face.
“But I know one thing.”
Her voice broke into something raw.
“I never stopped looking for you.”
Lina didn’t step back this time.

And outside the window, the world kept moving—
completely unaware that a stolen life had just begun to return home.
