Chapter 3 — The Betrayal Inside the Family
Chapter 3 — The Betrayal Inside the Family
By midnight, Adrian's men found the nanny.
She wasn't running.
She was dead.
Her car sat abandoned beneath an old railroad bridge.
There were no signs of robbery.
Only a single envelope resting on the passenger seat.
Inside was a photograph.
Emma.
Holding the baby inside the restaurant.
Across the picture someone had written three words.
"She ruined everything."
Adrian frowned.
"Someone wanted us to blame her."
Emma suddenly remembered something.
"When I picked him up..."
She closed her eyes.
"The tracker wasn't under his clothes."
"It was inside the padded support sewn into the baby carrier."
Every head turned.
The carrier.
It had been a gift.
Adrian's younger brother, Victor Romano, had proudly presented it only two days earlier.
"No one checked it," Emma whispered.
Adrian's expression hardened.
Victor had always smiled too easily.
Always insisted on helping with the baby.
Security teams searched Victor's penthouse before dawn.
Hidden inside a locked office, they found encrypted payments from a rival crime syndicate.
Alongside them sat blueprints of Adrian's homes...
His offices...
His son's nursery.
Victor wasn't protecting the family.
He had been selling it.
When confronted, Victor laughed.
"I never wanted your empire."
"I wanted your fear."
He reached for a hidden pistol.
But before he could fire...
Emma shouted one word.
"Down!"
May you like
The gunshot shattered the windows.
Victor never escaped the room.
