Chapter 2: The Courtroom The courtroom fell silent as the judge entered. Daniel stood beside Olivia with the confidence of a man who believed the hardest part of his day was already over. He couldn't have been more mistaken. My attorney slid the divorce agreement across the table. The terms were simple. Daniel would keep the downtown condo. The investment accounts already in his name. His consulting company. I would keep our unborn child. Nothing more. Olivia glanced at me with satisfaction. She expected me to argue. To cry. To beg. Instead, I signed every page without hesitation. Daniel frowned. "You aren't even going to negotiate?" I looked up. "Why would I?" A flicker of confusion crossed his face. The judge reviewed the paperwork before asking the routine questions. Then my attorney slowly stood. "Your Honor... before this divorce is finalized, there is one matter the court must address." Daniel's smile disappeared. "What matter?" My attorney calmly opened a folder nearly two inches thick. "I'd like to submit additional evidence concerning Mr. Carter's financial disclosures." Daniel laughed. "My finances have already been disclosed." "Not all of them." The room grew quiet. My attorney placed bank statements onto the evidence table. Property records. Corporate filings. Wire transfers. Tax documents. Daniel's attorney immediately stood. "Objection." "Overruled," the judge replied after scanning the first pages. My attorney continued. "Over the last fourteen months, Mr. Carter secretly transferred nearly four million dollars into shell companies registered under false ownership." Daniel's face drained of color. Olivia turned toward him. "What is he talking about?" Daniel didn't answer. Because he couldn't. My attorney smiled politely. "Those companies weren't discovered by accident." "I created them." Every eye turned toward me. "I've been a forensic financial consultant for the last six months." Daniel stared as if he no longer recognized the woman he had married. "You..." I nodded. "While you thought I was grieving..." "I was documenting everything." The courtroom became so quiet that even the rain outside seemed louder. The judge slowly removed his glasses. "Mr. Carter..." "I believe we have much more to discuss." Daniel finally realized... The divorce hearing had just become the beginning of his nightmare. / Chapter 1 / 2

Chapter 3: The Secret Olivia Never Knew

Chapter 3: The Secret Olivia Never Knew

Daniel spent the next hour trying to explain the money.

Each explanation collapsed faster than the last.

The judge wasn't convinced.

Neither was anyone else.

But Olivia still looked confused.

She leaned toward him.

"Daniel..."

"What money?"

He refused to meet her eyes.

That was all the answer she needed.

My attorney stood again.

"There's one final document, Your Honor."

He handed a sealed envelope to the judge.

The judge read it carefully.

Then looked directly at Daniel.

"Is this authentic?"

Daniel closed his eyes.

"...Yes."

Olivia grabbed his arm.

"What is it?"

No one answered.

Finally the judge looked toward me.

"Mrs. Carter... you may explain."

I took a slow breath.

"Three months before Daniel asked for this divorce..."

"...he changed his will."

Olivia smiled.

"I already know that."

"You think you do."

Her smile faded.

I continued.

"The version he showed you wasn't the version he filed."

Silence.

"The legal version states that if Daniel is found guilty of intentionally hiding marital assets..."

"...every amendment naming a future spouse becomes automatically void."

Olivia stared at Daniel.

"You told me everything would belong to us."

Daniel whispered,

"I thought it would."

"You lied."

"No..."

"I was wrong."

"No," she snapped.

"You lied."

For the first time since I'd known her...

Olivia looked terrified.

She hadn't fallen in love with Daniel.

She had fallen in love with the life she believed he owned.

And that life had just disappeared.

She slowly removed the engagement ring from her finger.

Placed it on the table.

Then walked away without looking back.

Daniel called after her.

"Olivia!"

She never turned around.
