Chapter 3: The Woman Behind the Mask
Chapter 3: The Woman Behind the Mask
Police sirens echoed faintly in the distance.
Someone had already made the call.
Victoria looked around the terrace.
Every face that once admired her now stared back with quiet disgust.
"You don't understand!" she cried.
"I did it for this family!"
"No."
Ethan's voice was frighteningly calm.
"You did it for yourself."
She pointed at Emma.
"She was going to inherit everything!"
"Exactly."
The confession slipped out before she realized what she had admitted.
Gasps rippled through the guests.
Victoria covered her mouth.
Too late.
The ragged boy stepped beside Ethan.
"My mother heard her talking on the phone."
He handed over an old voice recorder.
"I was told to keep this safe."
Ethan pressed play.
Victoria's own voice filled the terrace.
"The child doesn't have to stay blind forever... just long enough for Ethan to sign the new trust."
Another voice laughed.
"When the paperwork is done, no one will ever know."
The recording ended.
Victoria collapsed into a chair.
The elegant woman everyone envied disappeared.
Only fear remained.
Moments later, two detectives walked onto the terrace.
One accepted the bottle.
The other collected the photographs.
Emma quietly reached for her father's hand.
He knelt before her.
Tears filled his eyes.
"I'm sorry."
She touched his face gently.
"I kept waiting for you to notice."
Those words shattered him more completely than any accusation ever could.
Victoria was placed in handcuffs.
As officers escorted her away, she looked back one last time.
No one followed.
No one defended her.
The empire she had spent years manipulating vanished in less than five minutes.
May you like
Not because someone destroyed it.
Because the truth finally entered the room.
