Chapter 2: The Billion-Dollar Lie
Chapter 2: The Billion-Dollar Lie
Adrian slowly opened the envelope.
Inside were medical records, legal contracts, and photographs stamped with the Harrington Foundation's official seal.
"They paid Elena to disappear."
The room erupted.
Victoria turned pale.
"My husband..."
Adrian nodded.
"Richard Harrington convinced everyone that the donor had died during surgery."
Victoria staggered backward.
"No..."
"He told Elena that revealing the truth would destroy your recovery and your family."
Elena quietly lowered her eyes.
"I believed him."
For eight years she endured complications from the surgery alone.
No interviews.
No recognition.
No gratitude.
Meanwhile...
Richard accepted humanitarian awards for creating the Harrington Organ Foundation—a charity supposedly inspired by his wife's miraculous recovery.
The giant screen behind the stage still displayed his smiling face beneath the words:
A Legacy of Compassion.
The irony was suffocating.
Victoria slowly looked toward the ballroom entrance.
"Where is Richard?"
Nobody answered.
Then one of the security guards spoke into his radio before looking up.
"Sir..."
He hesitated.
"Mr. Harrington just left through the underground garage."
Victoria didn't think.
She ran.
Hundreds of guests followed behind her.
Outside, luxury cars lined the entrance beneath flashing cameras.
Richard was climbing into a black limousine.
"Richard!"
He froze.
For the first time in decades...
The billionaire looked afraid.
"You lied to me."
Richard forced a smile.
"I can explain."
"You stole another woman's sacrifice..."
"...and built our entire reputation on it."
Television cameras turned toward him.
Investors.
Politicians.
Journalists.
Everyone watched.
Richard realized there was nowhere left to hide.
But before anyone could stop him...
He pulled one final card from his sleeve.
He pointed directly at Elena.
"She wasn't helping you."
"She was helping herself."
The accusation stunned the crowd.
Even Elena looked shocked.
Richard smiled.
"Because Elena isn't a stranger."
May you like
"She's your sister."
The world seemed to stop breathing.
