Chapter 15 - Victor collapsed.Adrian fired at Cora.

She disappeared behind the doorway.

Adrian rushed to Victor.

“Stay with me.”

Victor coughed.

“Don't chase her.”

“Why?”

“She wants you angry.”

Adrian pressed a hand against the wound.

“Where are the girls?”

Victor looked toward the bunker.

“Safe.”

Evelyn knelt beside him.

“You knew.”

Victor smiled weakly.

“Someone had to.”

“Who is Cora really?”

Victor looked at Adrian.

“Your father's daughter.”

Adrian froze.

“What?”

“Half-sister.”

Evelyn's face drained.

Victor continued.

“She was raised by the Black Ledger.”

“Why?”

“To become the next head.”

Adrian looked at the shattered mansion.

The pieces finally aligned.

Cora had never been a housekeeper.

She had been watching them.

Learning them.

Waiting.

Adrian stood.

“Where is she going?”

Victor pointed toward the old train tunnel beneath the property.

“The original headquarters.”

Adrian looked at Evelyn.

“We finish this.”

Evelyn nodded.

“No more secrets.”

They found the entrance beneath the library.

A steel staircase descended into darkness.

The girls insisted on coming.

“No,” Adrian said.

Olivia stepped forward.

“You promised we would never be separated again.”

He looked at her.

She was right.

He couldn't abandon them.

They moved together.

At the bottom stood a massive chamber.

Computers.

Screens.

Files.

Thousands of names.

And Cora.

She stood in the center.

Behind her was one final screen.

Cora looked at Adrian.

“You destroyed the network.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

She smiled.

“You destroyed the old network.”

She pressed a button.

The screen changed.

Millions of bank accounts appeared.

Government systems.

Airports.

Satellite networks.

Hospital databases.

Power grids.

Adrian stared.

“You built another one.”

“No.”

Cora smiled.

“I inherited it.”

She looked toward the girls.

“The family never needed a king.”

“The family needed four keys.”

Olivia stepped backward.

Sophie grabbed Nora's hand.

Emma stared at the system.

“I remember this.”

Cora's smile disappeared.

“What?”

Emma walked toward the screen.

“This is the room where Grandma killed the banker.”

Cora froze.

Emma continued.

“And this is where Dad hid the original key.”

Cora raised her gun.

“No.”

Adrian stared at Emma.

“What do you remember?”

“Everything.”

She pointed toward the floor.

“Under there.”

Adrian moved the panel.

Beneath it was another device.

A small black box.

Cora screamed.

“Don't touch it!”

Adrian opened it.

Inside was a photograph.

His mother.

His father.

Evelyn.

Marcus.

Cora.

And a fifth person.

A man Adrian had never seen.

On the back:

THE FOUNDER.

Adrian looked at Evelyn.

“Who is that?”

She stared at the photograph.

Her face turned pale.

“I thought he was dead.”

“Who?”

She whispered:

“Your real grandfather.”

The chamber doors slammed shut.

Cora smiled again.

Adrian turned.

A voice came over the speakers.

Old.

Calm.

Powerful.

“Welcome, Adrian.”

He raised his gun.

“Show yourself.”

The lights came on.

An elderly man appeared on the screen.

His face was scarred.

His eyes were cold.

“Your father built my machine.”

“Your mother stole it.”

“Your wife corrupted it.”

“And you…”

He smiled.

“…destroyed it.”

Adrian stared.

“Then why are you here?”

The old man leaned toward the camera.

“Because destroying the machine was never the test.”

“The test was whether you could survive without it.”

The screens around them changed.

A countdown appeared.

00:10:00.

Adrian frowned.

“What happens in ten minutes?”

The old man smiled.

“Every government that depended on the Black Ledger will collapse.”

“Every bank connected to us will freeze.”

“Every hidden criminal network will become public.”

“And every person you've ever trusted will be forced to choose a side.”

Adrian looked at Evelyn.

She whispered:

“He's starting a global purge.”

The countdown reached 09:31.

Adrian looked at his daughters.

Olivia stood beside Sophie.

Nora held Emma's hand.

Four sisters.

Four witnesses.

Four keys.

He finally understood why everyone had fought so hard to keep them silent.

Not because their voices were dangerous.

Because their memories were.

Adrian stepped toward the screen.

“You spent fourteen months trying to frighten my children into silence.”

The old man smiled.

“Yes.”

Adrian looked at the girls.

“They failed.”

He turned toward the control panel.

“Because my daughters remember everything.”

Olivia placed her hand on the panel.

Sophie placed hers beside it.

Nora followed.

Then Emma.

The system activated.

The screen flashed:

FOUR HEIRS DETECTED.

ADDITIONAL COMMAND AVAILABLE.

REWRITE.

Adrian stared.

“Rewrite what?”

Evelyn looked at him.

“The system.”

He pressed the button.

A new screen appeared.

REBUILD FROM ZERO?

YES.

NO.

Adrian looked at the girls.

Then at the woman he had loved.

Then at the ruined world his family had built.

He pressed YES.

Every screen went black.

The old man's smile vanished.

“No.”

The countdown disappeared.

The system displayed one final message:

BLACK LEDGER TERMINATED.

A long silence followed.

Then somewhere above them, dawn began breaking.

Adrian walked over to Evelyn.

She took his hand.

“I don't know what happens now.”

He looked at the four girls.

“Neither do I.”

Emma smiled.

“Mom?”

Evelyn looked at her.

“Yes?”

“Can we sing?”

Evelyn's eyes filled with tears.

“Yes.”

The girls began softly singing.

“You are my sunshine…”

Adrian closed his eyes.

For fourteen months, that song had been a warning.

Now it sounded like something else.

A beginning.

Then Adrian's phone vibrated.

He looked at the screen.

UNKNOWN NUMBER.

One message.

THE LEDGER IS DEAD.

BUT THE FOUNDER IS NOT.

A second message appeared.

YOU HAVE TEN MINUTES TO FIND HIM.

Adrian slowly looked up.

Behind him, every security monitor in the chamber turned on.

One by one.

Each showed the same image.

A man walking toward the mansion.

His face was hidden.

In his arms was a little girl.

Adrian's daughter.

The one he had never known existed.

The man looked into the camera.

And smiled.

The screen went black.

Adrian whispered:

“That's impossible.”

Evelyn looked at him.

“What?”

Adrian's face had gone completely white.

He held up the phone.

The final message appeared.
