Chapter 14 - The woman called herself Elena Cruz.Ramon's grandmother.

He had been told she died before he was born.
She hadn't.
She had built the Circle.
Then she had built the world around it.
Elena revealed that Rafael's original plan had not been to destroy the Circle.
It had been to inherit it.
Then he changed his mind.
That betrayal made him the greatest enemy of the organization.
“You erased my memories,” Ramon said.
“No.”
Elena smiled.
“You erased them yourself.”
Ramon stared.
“You made the decision.”
“I was a child.”
“You were more dangerous than any adult.”
Elena explained that Rafael had discovered the Circle's true purpose.
It wasn't about money.
Not power.
It was about control.
The organization manipulated wars, economies, elections, criminal syndicates, and entire governments.
Ramon had decided to destroy it.
But he realized he couldn't.
So he created a failsafe.
Emma.
She was born with a rare ability to memorize patterns and reconstruct information.
Ramon encoded the Black Vault into sounds only she could retain.
He then erased his own memory.
He created the Ortega identity.
He became a mafia boss.
And waited.
“You planned to use your own empire as a weapon,” Elena said.
Ramon stared.
“Yes.”
“You succeeded.”
She stepped closer.
“But there's one problem.”
She pointed at Emma.
“She remembers too much.”
Ramon moved in front of the child.
“Touch her and you die.”
Elena laughed.
“You still think this is about killing.”
She pressed a remote.
Every screen inside the building displayed the same image.
Chicago.
Then Washington.
Then cities around the world.
Ramon's expression hardened.
The Circle wasn't confined to one place.
The Black Vault contained enough information to destabilize governments everywhere.
Elena had activated the release.
“Stop it.”
“I can.”
“How?”
“Bring me the final key.”
Ramon looked at Emma.
He understood.
She was the final key.
Not the silver key.
Her memory.
Elena needed Emma to reveal the location of the original vault.
The true vault.
The one containing everything.
Ramon refused.
A sniper shot shattered the window.
Chaos erupted.
Evelyn tackled Emma to the ground.
Mateo returned fire.
Ramon chased Elena into the corridor.
She disappeared through a hidden door.
Ramon followed.
They reached an underground chamber.
At its center stood a massive steel door.
No keyhole.
No controls.
Only the Cruz symbol.
Ramon placed his hand on it.
Nothing.
Emma approached.
She hummed the lullaby.
The door opened.
Inside was darkness.
Ramon stepped forward.
Thousands of files lined the walls.
At the center was a single chair.
Not a memory chair.
A throne.
Elena stood beside it.
“This is where you were supposed to sit.”
Ramon shook his head.
“No.”
Elena smiled.
“You already did.”
The lights came on.
A holographic recording appeared.
Ramon's younger self sat on the throne.
He looked directly at his future self.
“If you're seeing this, I failed.”
Ramon stared.
Young Rafael continued.
“The Circle cannot be destroyed.”
He paused.
“So I made something else.”
The screen changed.
Emma's face appeared.
Then thousands of encrypted files.
Ramon suddenly realized the truth.
Emma wasn't merely a witness.
She was the final encryption system.
Only her memories could activate the Black Vault.
And Ramon had been designed as the one person she would trust.
Elena smiled.
“Now tell me the final sequence.”
Ramon raised his gun.
“No.”
Elena pressed a button.
A photograph appeared.
Ramon's mother.
Alive.
Bound to a chair.
“Then she dies.”
Ramon froze.
His mother looked directly into the camera.
And mouthed four words.
Don't trust me.
Ramon's eyes narrowed.
He looked at Elena.
Then at Emma.
Then at the screen.
His mother repeated:
Don't trust me.
Ramon understood.
It was a warning.
Not about Elena.
About herself.
His mother had already been compromised.
The door behind Ramon closed.
A voice came over the intercom.
Not Elena.
Not Evelyn.
Not Mateo.
His mother's voice.
“Rafael.”
Ramon turned.
“Come home.”
Elena smiled.
Then whispered:
“She chose us.”
Ramon looked at Emma.
Emma suddenly grabbed his hand.
“Dad.”
“What?”
“My mommy taught me the last song.”
She began humming.
Ramon listened.
Three notes.
Two.
Three.
Then one.
He realized what it was.
Not coordinates.
A countdown.
May you like
“Everyone out!”
The room exploded.
