Chapter 11 - Ramon stared at the photograph for what felt like an eternity.“That's impossible.”

Evelyn's voice came through the speakers.

“You created The Circle.”

“No.”

“You did.”

“I was a child.”

“Exactly.”

Ramon turned to the computer.

“Show me the original record.”

A file opened.

Date: twenty-four years earlier.

A child had been registered under the name Rafael Cruz.

Father: Unknown.

Mother: Unknown.

Then another file.

Founder of The Circle: Rafael Cruz.

Age: Twenty-three.

Ramon shook his head.

“The dates are wrong.”

Evelyn laughed.

“They're not.”

The answer was worse than the question.

Someone had manipulated time.

Not literally.

Records.

Identities.

Deaths.

Births.

Everything.

Ramon realized the Circle's greatest weapon was not guns.

It was history.

They controlled what people believed had happened.

Evelyn revealed that the man called Rafael Cruz had built the Circle years ago to destroy corrupt political networks.

Then he vanished.

The Circle continued without him.

Until twenty-two years ago.

That's when his mother and Arturo took the baby.

Ramon.

But if he was Rafael Cruz, he had founded it before his memories were erased.

He wasn't the victim.

He had once been the architect.

Emma looked terrified.

“Does that mean you're bad?”

Ramon crouched.

“I don't know.”

“But you're my dad.”

Ramon looked at her.

“That part I know.”

An alarm sounded.

Someone was entering the mansion.

Ramon grabbed Emma.

They headed upstairs.

The front doors burst open.

Dozens of armed men flooded inside.

At their center stood Commissioner Hayes.

“We have the child.”

Ramon fired.

The mansion became a battlefield.

His remaining men fought beside him.

Ramon moved through the halls like a ghost.

He knew every corner.

Every secret entrance.

Every blind spot.

Because he had built the estate.

Not Ortega.

Cruz.

The truth clicked into place.

His father had never built the empire.

Ramon had.

Years ago.

Before his memories disappeared.

Arturo simply inherited it.

He had been protecting Ramon from himself.

Ramon reached the study.

Emma stood behind him.

Hayes entered.

“It's over.”

Ramon raised his gun.

“No.”

Hayes smiled.

“You think you can kill The Circle?”

Ramon shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at the hidden computer.

“I think I can expose it.”

He activated the Black Vault.

Every file began uploading.

Names.

Bank accounts.

Recordings.

Judges.

Police commanders.

Politicians.

International organizations.

Hayes's face changed.

“Stop.”

Ramon continued.

The information spread across the city.

Phones began buzzing.

News stations interrupted broadcasts.

The Circle's secrets became public.

Hayes lunged.

Ramon shot him.

Silence.

Emma stared at the screens.

“Is it over?”

Ramon didn't answer.

A final file appeared.

PROJECT ORIGIN.

He opened it.

The video showed Ramon at age nineteen.

Standing beside Evelyn.

They looked like partners.

Not enemies.

Evelyn was smiling.

Ramon was smiling too.

The video began.

Ramon's younger self spoke:

“If I forget, make sure the plan continues.”

Evelyn nodded.

“What if you fail?”

“Then Emma's generation must finish it.”

Ramon stared.

His younger self continued:

“The Circle cannot be destroyed from outside.”

He looked directly into the camera.

“It must be destroyed by its founder.”

The video ended.

Ramon's hands trembled.

Emma whispered:

“You planned this.”

Ramon stared at the screen.

“Yes.”

“Then why did you forget?”

Before he could answer, every light in the mansion turned red.

A final message appeared.

PHASE TWO ACTIVATED.

Then a phone rang.

Ramon answered.

A woman's voice spoke.

“Congratulations.”

Ramon's eyes narrowed.

“Who is this?”

“You've destroyed The Circle.”

Ramon waited.

The woman continued.

“You've only forgotten that we are not The Circle.”

“Who are you?”

“We are the people who built it.”

The line went dead.

Ramon looked at Emma.

Then at the screens.

The entire Black Vault had begun deleting itself.

One file remained.

A single name.

ORIGIN.

May you like

And beneath it:

MEET ME WHERE YOU WERE BORN.
