Chapter 11: The Reunion With Isabella Vale and the Truth of Alexander’s Final Night

The road into the mountains became quieter with every passing mile.
The city disappeared behind Charlotte.
No skyscrapers.
No executives.
No cameras.
No people watching her every move.
Only endless forests and a narrow road covered by morning fog.
For the first time in weeks, Charlotte was alone with her thoughts.
And that was exactly what frightened her.
Because every answer she had discovered had created a deeper question.
Richard Blackwood had betrayed her.
Marcus Vale had betrayed her.
Evelyn had hidden the truth.
Adrian Black had controlled everything from the shadows.
And now…
her mother was alive.
The woman she had mourned for years.
The woman she believed she would never see again.
Charlotte tightened her grip on the steering wheel.
She had imagined this moment many times.
A thousand different versions.
She imagined running toward her mother.
She imagined crying.
She imagined asking why she left.
But now that the moment was close…
she felt something else.
Fear.
Because what if the truth hurt more than the loss?
The house appeared after another thirty minutes.
It was not a mansion.
Not a fortress.
Just a small wooden house surrounded by trees.
A place designed to disappear.
Charlotte parked outside.
For several seconds, she remained inside the car.
She looked at the front door.
That door separated her from a woman she had spent years believing was gone.
Finally, she stepped out.
Her footsteps were slow.
She walked toward the entrance.
Before she could knock…
the door opened.
And everything stopped.
Isabella Vale stood there.
Older.
Her hair had turned silver at the edges.
Lines appeared around her eyes.
But Charlotte knew immediately.
It was her.
The same eyes.
The same gentle expression.
The same woman from her childhood memories.
Neither of them spoke.
They simply looked at each other.
Twenty years of memories.
Twenty years of pain.
Twenty years of questions.
All standing between them.
Then Isabella whispered:
“Charlotte.”
That single word broke something inside her.
Charlotte had faced billionaires.
Corporate wars.
Enemies.
Betrayals.
But hearing her mother say her name was the hardest thing she had experienced.
Her eyes filled.
“Why?”
The question came out before anything else.
Not hello.
Not I missed you.
Just:
“Why?”
Isabella’s face changed.
Pain appeared.
“I know.”
Charlotte shook her head.
“No.”
Her voice trembled.
“You don’t know.”
She stepped closer.
“I spent years thinking you were dead.”
Isabella closed her eyes.
“I know.”
“I had nobody.”
“I know.”
“My father was gone.”
“I know.”
Charlotte’s voice broke.
“And you were alive.”
Silence.
Isabella lowered her head.
“I know.”
That answer hurt more than an excuse.
Because it meant she understood the damage.
She understood what Charlotte had lost.
They sat inside the small house.
Two cups of tea rested untouched on the table.
Neither of them drank.
Charlotte stared at her mother.
She wanted answers.
But she also wanted something she had secretly wished for since childhood.
An explanation.
“Tell me everything.”
Isabella nodded.
“I will.”
She took a deep breath.
“But first, you need to understand something.”
Charlotte waited.
“I never left because I stopped loving you.”
Her voice cracked.
“I left because loving you was the reason I had to disappear.”
Charlotte looked away.
The words hurt.
But she listened.
“Your father and I discovered Adrian Black’s plan years before you knew anything.”
Isabella began.
“Adrian was not interested in Solmere alone.”
“He wanted control over the Vale and Arden families.”
Charlotte nodded.
“I know.”
Isabella looked surprised.
“You know about the Arden bloodline?”
Charlotte answered quietly:
“My father left me the truth.”
A sad smile appeared on Isabella’s face.
“Of course he did.”
She looked down.
“Alexander always believed you were stronger than people thought.”
Charlotte remained silent.
Isabella continued.
“When Adrian discovered my family’s connection, he realized something.”
“What?”
“That you were the key.”
Charlotte frowned.
“The key?”
“To everything.”
Isabella explained.
“The Arden family had created a financial protection system decades ago.”
“An emergency network.”
“Assets hidden around the world.”
“Accounts no government or corporation could touch.”
Charlotte listened carefully.
“And I inherited it?”
Isabella nodded.
“Because you are the last Arden heir.”
Charlotte looked down.
“So Adrian wanted me.”
“Yes.”
“Not Solmere.”
“No.”
Isabella’s voice became darker.
“He wanted you.”
Charlotte felt cold.
Because suddenly the entire war looked different.
She was not just a daughter protecting her father’s company.
She was the person everyone had been fighting over.
“Then why did you let me grow up without knowing?”
Isabella looked heartbroken.
“Because knowledge could get you killed.”
Charlotte stared at her.
“Did hiding the truth save me?”
Isabella hesitated.
That hesitation was painful.
Because the answer was complicated.
“It gave you a chance.”
Charlotte stood and walked toward the window.
Outside, the forest was calm.
Peaceful.
Almost unfair.
“How did my father die?”
The question changed the room.
Isabella became still.
For years, she had avoided saying those words.
But now there was nowhere left to hide.
“Your father did not die in the accident.”
Charlotte turned.
“I know.”
Isabella looked surprised.
“Evelyn told you?”
Charlotte nodded.
“She told me he survived.”
Isabella closed her eyes.
“She was right.”
A pause.
“Alexander survived the crash.”
Charlotte waited.
“Then what happened?”
Isabella looked toward the window.
“He found out Richard and Marcus were working with Adrian.”
“He discovered the entire takeover plan.”
Charlotte’s hands tightened.
“He tried to expose them.”
“Yes.”
“And Adrian stopped him.”
Isabella shook her head.
“No.”
Charlotte froze.
“No?”
Isabella looked at her.
“Adrian did not kill your father.”
The room became silent.
Charlotte’s heartbeat increased.
“Then who did?”
Isabella looked down.
“The person who pulled the trigger was someone your father trusted.”
Charlotte felt a chill.
Someone trusted.
Someone close.
Someone inside the family.
“Who?”
Isabella looked directly at her.
And answered:
“Evelyn.”
The world seemed to stop.
Charlotte stared.
“No.”
Isabella’s eyes filled with tears.
“I wish I was wrong.”
“No.”
Charlotte stepped back.
“You’re lying.”
“I am not.”
“My aunt protected me.”
“Yes.”
“My aunt helped me.”
“Yes.”
“Then why would she kill my father?”
Isabella looked devastated.
“Because she believed she was saving you.”
Charlotte froze.
“What?”
Isabella continued.
“Evelyn discovered Adrian’s plan before Alexander did.”
“She knew your father wanted to fight back.”
“She knew Adrian would destroy everyone connected to him.”
Charlotte shook her head.
“That doesn’t make sense.”
Isabella whispered:
“Evelyn believed your father’s plan would fail.”
“She thought the only way to protect you was to remove Alexander from the battlefield.”
Charlotte stared.
“She killed him…”
“To save you.”
Silence.
The most painful kind.
Because Charlotte realized something terrible.
Everyone around her had been making choices for her.
Everyone had decided what she could handle.
Everyone had believed they knew what was best.
And nobody had asked her.
Not her father.
Not her mother.
Not Evelyn.
Nobody.
Suddenly, the lights inside the house went out.
Charlotte immediately turned.
“What happened?”
Isabella stood.
Her expression changed.
Fear.
Real fear.
“No.”
“What?”
Isabella moved toward the window.
“We were found.”
Charlotte looked outside.
Between the trees…
lights appeared.
Vehicles.
Several black cars approaching.
Isabella’s face became pale.
“Adrian.”
Charlotte immediately reached for her phone.
No signal.
The connection was blocked.
A second later, the front door shook.
Someone was outside.
Then a voice echoed.
Calm.
Confident.
Familiar.
“Isabella.”
Charlotte froze.
Because she recognized the voice.
Adrian Black.
The man who had controlled everything from the shadows.
The man who had started the war.
He was here.
The door opened slowly.
Adrian entered with several men behind him.
He looked older than Charlotte expected.
But his eyes were sharp.
Intelligent.
Dangerous.
He looked at Isabella.
Then at Charlotte.
And smiled.
“Finally.”
A pause.
“Alexander Vale’s daughter.”
Charlotte stood between him and her mother.
Adrian studied her.
“You look exactly like him.”
Charlotte’s voice was cold.
“You killed my family.”
Adrian smiled slightly.
“No.”
He looked at Isabella.
“Your family destroyed itself.”
Charlotte’s expression hardened.
“Explain.”
Adrian stepped closer.
“Your father never told you the truth.”
A pause.
“He never told you what he discovered about your mother.”
Isabella’s face changed.
Adrian smiled.
“Because Alexander knew…”
He looked directly at Charlotte.
“…that the greatest threat to Solmere was not me.”
Silence.
Charlotte stared.
“Then who?”
Adrian’s smile disappeared.
“The person standing beside you.”
Charlotte slowly turned.
Toward her mother.
And for the first time…
she wondered if the woman she spent years searching for…
May you like
was the person she should have been searching from.
