Chapter 14 - The Wedding RingThey found Leo's ring in the wreckage.

He had dropped it during the fight.
Inside the metal band was a microscopic data chip.
The final recording was there.
Daniel had hidden it years earlier.
The footage showed Victor.
Mateo.
Leo.
Lorenzo's father.
And the person who had been paying them all.
Nora watched in silence.
The name appeared on screen.
She gasped.
It was her mother.
Lorenzo stared at her.
“What?”
Nora couldn't speak.
Her mother had secretly been the accountant behind Black River.
She had created the shell companies.
Moved the money.
Covered the murders.
Then turned against Victor.
Her father had tried to protect her.
Daniel had discovered everything.
Nora looked shattered.
“My mother…”
Daniel nodded.
“She wasn't the leader.”
“Then what was she?”
“The person who kept the machine running.”
Lorenzo watched the final seconds.
Victor ordered Daniel's death.
Leo agreed.
Mateo executed the transfer.
Lorenzo's father attempted to save Daniel.
And Nora's mother erased the evidence.
But there was one final detail.
A date.
Tomorrow.
A meeting at the old river terminal.
Everyone involved was expected to attend.
Including Victor.
And Leo.
Lorenzo looked at Nora.
“We end this tomorrow.”
She nodded.
But before they could leave, his father's phone rang.
Nobody wanted to answer.
Lorenzo did.
A distorted voice spoke.
“You have the recording.”
“Yes.”
“Bring it to the terminal.”
“Why?”
“Because Victor wants to see you.”
Lorenzo's expression hardened.
“And Leo?”
“Leo is already there.”
Nora felt cold.
“What about my mother?”
The voice paused.
“She's with us.”
The call ended.
Lorenzo looked at Daniel.
“We're going.”
Daniel shook his head.
“You're walking into a grave.”
Lorenzo looked toward Nora.
“No.”
His voice was calm.
“We're walking into the end.”
Nora reached for his hand.
For the first time, Lorenzo didn't hesitate.
He held it.
Outside, thunder rolled over the city.

The terminal waited beside the black river.
And somewhere in the dark, Victor was preparing for the final move.
