Chapter 2 - Dominic Moretti did not enter a room.He took control of it.

He was tall, broad shouldered, dressed in a black suit without a tie. Two men followed him through the ballroom, both carrying themselves with the silent precision of people trained to notice everything.

Dominic's eyes found me immediately.

His expression changed.

Not dramatically.

He did not shout.

He did not run.

That was worse.

He walked toward me.

When he saw the marks on my wrists, something went cold inside his face.

“Elena.”

“I’m fine.”

“No.”

He gently took my hand.

“You’re not.”

Adrian stepped forward.

“This is a private family matter.”

Dominic turned.

Adrian stopped speaking.

My brother looked at him for several seconds.

Then he asked,

“Did you do this?”

Adrian swallowed.

“She caused a scene.”

Dominic's gaze shifted toward the ruined dress.

“You hurt my sister because of a dress?”

“It wasn't just the dress.”

Vanessa stepped forward.

“She attacked me.”

Dominic looked at her.

“Name?”

“Vanessa Hart.”

He nodded once.

Then he turned to one of his men.

“Find everything.”

Vanessa's face went pale.

“What does that mean?”

Dominic ignored her.

Adrian tried to laugh.

“This is ridiculous.”

“No,” Dominic said.

“It isn't.”

The doors opened again.

Matteo walked in.

Then Luca.

Then Gabriel.

Then Nico.

Five brothers.

Five very different men.

And suddenly the Cole ballroom felt too small.

Matteo removed his leather gloves.

Luca carried a thin black folder.

Gabriel had a laptop under one arm.

Nico was already holding his phone.

I looked at them.

For years, I had tried to keep my worlds separate.

My marriage.

My family.

My husband's life.

Tonight, Adrian had destroyed that wall himself.

Matteo looked at my back.

His jaw tightened.

“Who?”

I answered,

“Adrian.”

Matteo nodded.

Nothing more.

Luca stepped beside him.

“I have the preliminary medical contacts ready.”

Gabriel opened his laptop.

“And I have something else.”

Adrian stared at him.

“What?”

Gabriel smiled faintly.

“Your accounts.”

Adrian's face changed.

“What are you talking about?”

Gabriel turned the screen toward me.

“Six months ago, fourteen million dollars moved from a Cole investment account into three shell entities.”

Adrian laughed too quickly.

“That proves nothing.”

Gabriel clicked again.

“The shell entities all trace back to companies controlled by Vanessa Hart.”

Vanessa froze.

“You're lying.”

Gabriel looked up.

“Would you like me to continue?”

No one answered.

He did.

“There are payments to a private apartment. Hotel reservations. Jewelry. Transportation. Two overseas transfers.”

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

“This is illegal.”

Luca laughed softly.

“No.”

He closed the folder.

“It isn't.”

Then Luca looked directly at Adrian.

“But threatening my sister, imprisoning her in your home, physically assaulting her, and arranging a public beating?”

His expression turned empty.

“That creates a very different conversation.”

Margaret suddenly stepped forward.

“You are all acting insane. Elena embarrassed Vanessa.”

I turned toward her.

“Embarrassed?”

She pointed at me.

“She ruined another woman's dress at her own birthday party.”

I stared at her.

Then I laughed.

One sharp sound.

“You still don't understand.”

Margaret frowned.

“What?”

“I didn't spill the wine.”

The room fell silent.

Adrian looked at me.

“What?”

I reached into my handbag.

Pulled out a tiny USB drive.

And placed it on the table.

“Vanessa's dress was already stained before I touched the glass.”

Vanessa took a step backward.

“No.”

I looked at Nico.

He connected the drive to Gabriel's laptop.

The screen lit up.

Security footage.

The ballroom.

Thirty-two minutes before the punishment.

Vanessa stood near the bar.

She looked around.

Then deliberately poured red wine across her own dress.

A collective gasp moved through the room.

Adrian stared.

“No.”

The footage continued.

Vanessa walked directly toward me.

She handed me the empty glass.

Then she whispered something.

Audio came through the speakers.

“You're going to regret marrying him.”

Vanessa's face went white.

I looked at Adrian.

“You planned this.”

He looked at her.

“Is this true?”

Vanessa said nothing.

Margaret stepped back.

The guests began whispering.

Dominic folded his arms.

“You beat Elena over a setup.”

Adrian's voice cracked.

“She tricked me.”

I shook my head.

“No.”

Then I leaned forward.

“She tricked you.”

Adrian stared at me.

“You trusted her.”

Vanessa suddenly began crying.

“Adrian, I can explain.”

He turned toward her.

“You said Elena attacked you.”

“I thought she would.”

“You planned this.”

“I wanted her out!”

Adrian looked stunned.

“Out of what?”

Vanessa froze.

I saw it.

A tiny hesitation.

Nico noticed too.

He tapped something on his phone.

A message appeared on the screen.

From Vanessa.

To Adrian.

Three weeks earlier.

Once Elena is discredited, the trust issue becomes easier.

Adrian's expression went blank.

I stepped closer.

“There it is.”

He looked at me.

“What trust?”

I held his gaze.

“The one you thought belonged to you after my death.”

The room exploded into whispers.

Adrian's face drained of color.

Margaret stared at her son.

“What is she talking about?”

I answered quietly.

“My family trust.”

Adrian said nothing.

Luca's voice was cold.

“You never told him?”

“No.”

“Why?”

I looked at my husband.

“Because I wanted to know whether he loved me without it.”

Dominic's eyes hardened.

“He failed.”

Adrian suddenly rushed toward me.

Two security men blocked him instantly.

He shouted,

“You lied to me!”

I stepped back.

“No.”

I looked at him.

“I protected myself.”

Then my phone buzzed.

Gabriel checked the message.

His eyebrows rose.

“What?”

I took the phone.

It was a photograph.

An old photograph.

My father.

Adrian's father.

Standing together twenty years ago.

And underneath it was a message from Nico.

Found something buried in the Cole family archives.

I looked up.

Nico's expression had changed.

“Elena.”

“What?”

He turned the phone toward me.

“There is another secret.”

My heart stopped.

“What secret?”

Nico answered,

“Your father didn't just know Adrian's father.”

May you like

He paused.

“They were partners.”
