Chapter 15 - The photograph shook in my hand.Three children.

Three potential heirs.
Three genetic signatures.
Three keys.
The little boy looked about six.
His eyes were familiar.
Too familiar.
I turned the photograph over again.
A name was written beneath the message.
NOAH MORETTI.
I stared.
“Who is Noah?”
My father stood behind me.
His expression was unreadable.
“You found him.”
“You knew?”
“Yes.”
“Where is he?”
He didn't answer.
I turned.
“Dad.”
He finally spoke.
“He doesn't know who he is.”
“Why?”
“Because I wanted him to have what you never did.”
“A normal life.”
“Yes.”
I looked at the photograph.
“Does he know about us?”
“No.”
“Does he know he's a Moretti?”
“No.”
“Then who raised him?”
My father hesitated.
“Evelyn.”
I turned toward her.
She nodded.
“I kept him hidden.”
“From Victor?”
“From everyone.”
I looked at Samuel.
He stood near the window.
“You knew?”
“Yes.”
“Why didn't you tell me?”
“Because your enemies would have used him.”
I understood.
There had always been another child.
Another secret.
Another shield.
And then I realized something.
If Noah existed, the system might not truly be dead.
My father saw the thought cross my face.
“No.”
“What?”
“Project M is gone.”
“Then why hide him?”
“Because people who knew about it aren't all dead.”
The room became silent.
Nico looked at his phone.
“I found a problem.”
“What?”
“Someone has been accessing Noah's records.”
“Who?”
He turned the screen toward me.
A familiar name appeared.
EVELYN VOSS.
I looked at Evelyn.
“You?”
She shook her head.
“Someone is using my credentials.”
I stared.
“Who?”
Nico zoomed in.
There was a second authorization.
SAMUEL VOSS.
We all turned.
Samuel was gone.
Again.
My father whispered,
“He never stopped.”
I looked at him.
“What does he want?”
“The third key.”
No one spoke.
Then every screen in the study turned on.
A live video appeared.
Samuel stood in a dark room.
Behind him was Noah.
The little boy from the photograph.
He looked frightened.
Samuel smiled.
“Elena.”
My blood ran cold.
“I knew you'd find him.”
“Let him go.”
Samuel shook his head.
“He belongs to the system.”
“No.”
“He belongs to you.”
He looked at my father.
“You failed, Richard.”
My father stepped forward.
“You're done.”
Samuel laughed.
“You said that twenty years ago.”
I looked at the screen.
“What do you want?”
“The final access code.”
“There isn't one.”
Samuel smiled.
“There is.”
He held up a small device.
“Your father's original key.”
My father froze.
I understood.
The key I had.
The transmitter.
The one that announced me.
But there had been another.
A twin.
Noah's.
Samuel continued.
“You destroyed Project M.”
“No.”
My father shook his head.
“You only destroyed the public layer.”
Samuel smiled.
“The core still exists.”
Gabriel's face went pale.
“Where?”
Samuel looked at me.
“Inside you.”
I stared.
“What?”
He explained.
“The final encryption wasn't stored on a server.”
“It was stored in the genetic sequencing of the heirs.”
I felt sick.
“You made us into passwords.”
“Yes.”
“And Noah?”
“The final fragment.”
I looked at my father.
“You knew.”
“Yes.”
“Then all of this started before I was born.”
“Yes.”
“People died because of it.”
He nodded.
I looked at Samuel.
“What happens if you get the third fragment?”
“I control everything.”
“No.”
Samuel laughed.
“You still think money is the prize.”
He leaned closer to the camera.
“The prize is the ability to erase every secret.”
I understood.
Not expose.
Erase.
He could delete evidence.
Destroy investigations.
Clear financial records.
Erase identities.
Make criminals disappear from history.
He wanted absolute control over information.
I looked at Dominic.
“Can you find him?”
Nico answered first.
“I already did.”
Samuel's location appeared on the map.
An old estate.
Outside the city.
The place where Victor had supposedly died.
We moved immediately.
This time, I didn't stay behind.
We entered through the main gate.
No guards.
No alarms.
Just silence.
Inside, a child's toy lay on the floor.
Noah's.
I followed it upstairs.
Samuel stood at the end of the hallway.
Noah beside him.
A small device in his hand.
“Elena.”
I stopped.
“Let him go.”
“He'll come with me.”
“No.”
Samuel smiled.
“You always were like your father.”
“Then you know I won't surrender.”
He raised the device.
A countdown appeared.
60
My heart stopped.
“What is that?”
“The final purge.”
“Purge what?”
“Everything.”
He looked at the house.
“Every file. Every record. Every identity connected to Project M.”
“And Noah?”
Samuel smiled.
“If the sequence fails, the fragment dies with him.”
I stepped forward.
“That's your plan?”
“Yes.”
“To kill a child?”
“I've spent twenty years sacrificing people.”
His expression was empty.
“One more means nothing.”
I looked at Noah.
He was trembling.
I softened my voice.
“Noah.”
He looked at me.
“Do you know who I am?”
He shook his head.
“I'm your sister.”
His eyes widened.
“Sister?”
“Yes.”
Samuel shouted,
“Don't listen to her.”
I ignored him.
“I've spent my whole life being told who I had to be.”
I looked at Noah.
“I won't let that happen to you.”
The countdown reached forty.
Dominic moved slowly along the side wall.
Matteo covered the hallway.
Nico circled behind.
Samuel noticed.
He raised his weapon.
I stepped forward.
“Samuel.”
He looked at me.
“You wanted the final code.”
“Yes.”
“Then take it.”
I pulled the transmitter key from my pocket.
“I'll give you mine.”
Dominic looked at me.
He knew what I was doing.
Samuel smiled.
“Good.”
I held the key out.
When he moved closer, I dropped it.
It hit the floor.
He bent down.
That was the moment Nico acted.
The hallway erupted.
Samuel fired.
Matteo disarmed him.
Dominic grabbed Noah.
Luca tackled Samuel.
Gabriel seized the device.
The countdown stopped at twelve.
Silence.
I ran to Noah.
He looked at me.
“Are you really my sister?”
I smiled.
“Yes.”
“Are you going to leave?”
I shook my head.
“No.”
Behind us, Samuel was being restrained.
For the first time, he looked defeated.
My father approached.
He looked at Noah.
Then at me.
“I’m sorry.”
I nodded.
“I know.”
Weeks later, the Moretti estate was quiet again.
The Cole family empire was in ruins.
The criminal investigations continued.
The truth about my father's disappearance became public.
My mother's confession was entered into evidence.
Evelyn testified.
Samuel was charged.
Adrian faced his own consequences.
And I became the legal custodian of the Moretti trust.
But I did something no one expected.
I did not rebuild Project M.
I destroyed the last remaining core.
No secret network.
No private leverage.
No hidden vault.
No invisible power.
Just evidence placed where the law could see it.
I stood in my father's study one evening with Noah beside me.
He held my hand.
“Will they come back?”
I looked through the window.
“Maybe.”
“Are you scared?”
I thought about the birthday party.
The rope.
The lashes.
The laughter.
The humiliation.
The night I believed I had lost everything.
Then I smiled.
“Not anymore.”
Noah looked at me.
“Why?”
I glanced toward the driveway.
Five black SUVs were parked outside.
My brothers were arguing over something.
Matteo was laughing.
Gabriel was carrying files.
Luca was on the phone.
Nico was watching everyone.
Dominic stood at the front steps.
My family.
My real family.
I looked back at Noah.
“Because I know where I belong.”
He smiled.
“Where?”
I squeezed his hand.
“Where nobody gets to decide my place for me.”
My phone buzzed.
Unknown number.
I opened the message.
A single photograph appeared.
Vanessa.
Alive.
Standing beside someone I recognized.
A man I thought had disappeared forever.
Under the photograph were seven words:
THE COLES WERE NEVER THE REAL ENEMY.
I stared at the screen.
Noah looked at me.
“What is it?”
I slowly raised my eyes toward the dark window.
My smile disappeared.
Because the man standing beside Vanessa...
was my husband.
Adrian Cole.
And beneath the photograph was one final message.
HE ESCAPED.
AND HE WANTS YOU BACK.
I closed my hand around the phone.
May you like
The war had never ended.
It had only changed its name.
