Chapter 11 - Beneath Mercer TowerI landed hard on a metal platform.

Pain shot through my shoulder.

A door slammed above.

I heard voices.

Then silence.

The room was underground.

Cold.

Windowless.

Rows of steel cabinets filled the walls.

At the center stood a biometric terminal.

A screen activated.

WELCOME, HEIRESS.

I stared.

A message appeared.

IDENTITY CONFIRMED.

My father's voice came through a speaker.

“If you are seeing this, I failed to protect you.”

I stepped closer.

“Dad?”

The recording continued.

“The Mercer trust contains money, but money is not its purpose.”

The screen changed.

Thousands of names appeared.

Politicians.

Judges.

Bank executives.

Military contractors.

Media owners.

Then images.

Meetings.

Payments.

Blackmail.

Murders.

My stomach turned.

“This is evidence.”

“Yes.”

“The entire system.”

“Yes.”

My father continued.

“Julian designed the trust as a weapon.”

A second file opened.

PROJECT ASCENSION.

I clicked it.

The documents revealed a plan.

The Mercer network intended to manipulate elections.

Control banking regulations.

Crash selected markets.

Then purchase the aftermath.

The fortune wasn't simply wealth.

It was power.

Enough power to influence governments.

Then another document appeared.

A name.

Adrian Mercer.

Status:

PRIMARY SUCCESSOR

I froze.

But another name appeared beneath it.

EVELYN VALE.

Status:

ORIGINAL HEIR.

Then:

TERMINATION AUTHORIZED IF TRUST ACTIVATION FAILS.

My breath stopped.

Adrian's murder plan was real.

A door opened behind me.

I spun.

Adrian entered.

No weapons.

No smile.

He looked exhausted.

“Where's Clara?”

“Alive.”

“Elias?”

“Coming.”

“Why are you here?”

He walked toward the terminal.

“To stop him.”

I laughed.

“You expect me to believe that?”

“No.”

“Good.”

He stood beside me.

“You think I'm the worst person in the room.”

“You are.”

“Probably.”

He stared at the screen.

“But Elias is worse.”

“Why?”

“Because he doesn't want the money.”

I looked at him.

“He wants the system.”

A hidden door opened.

Elias entered.

Six armed men followed.

Adrian raised his hands.

“It's over.”

Elias smiled.

“No.”

He looked at the terminal.

“Evelyn, activate the trust.”

“Why?”

“Because you're the only one who can.”

“And then?”

“I'll explain.”

“I don't trust you.”

“You shouldn't.”

He laughed.

“But you're going to do it anyway.”

I looked at Adrian.

For the first time, I saw fear in his eyes.

Not for himself.

For me.

He whispered:

“Don't activate it.”

Elias raised his gun.

“Do it.”

I approached the terminal.

Placed my hand on the scanner.

The system recognized me.

VOICE AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED.

I swallowed.

A prompt appeared.

SAY: I ACCEPT THE MERCER INHERITANCE.

I looked at Elias.

Then Adrian.

Then the hidden cameras.

And I realized something.

The system was recording.

Every word.

Every face.

Every confession.

I smiled.

“I accept…”

Elias smiled.

“…the truth.”

The system stopped.

His smile disappeared.

“What did you say?”

I pressed another button.

The screen changed.

EVIDENCE TRANSMISSION: ARMED.

Elias rushed toward me.

But the doors slammed shut.

The entire underground chamber locked.

And a new message appeared.

IF HEIRS ARE THREATENED, ALL FILES WILL BE RELEASED AUTOMATICALLY.

Elias stared at the screen.

I looked at him.

“You wanted the trust.”

He whispered:

“What did you do?”

I smiled.

“I turned your kingdom into a bomb.”

May you like

Then every monitor in the room turned red.

COUNTDOWN: 29:59
