Chapter 11 - The ChildI refused to let Noah leave my arms.

“What did he inherit?”

Elena smiled.

“The same thing you did.”

Ethan stepped closer.

“What exactly?”

Elena shook her head.

“You’ll find out.”

She was taken away before she could explain.

But the damage was already done.

Every mystery seemed to lead back to Noah.

We went to a secure facility outside the city.

Doctors ran tests.

DNA analysis.

Bloodwork.

Genetic screening.

I sat beside Noah and watched the clock.

Hours later, a doctor entered.

He looked nervous.

“What is it?”

He placed a folder on the table.

“The genetic markers match.”

“Match what?”

“The original beneficiary profile.”

Ethan leaned forward.

“There are no records of a genetic profile in the trust documents.”

“Not written documents.”

The doctor looked at me.

“There’s a biological encryption layer.”

I stared at him.

“Someone used DNA to lock the account.”

He nodded.

“And Noah can open it.”

My heart sank.

“How?”

“Through inheritance.”

“Inheritance from me?”

“Yes.”

“Then why did nobody know?”

The doctor looked at Ethan.

“Because the system wasn’t designed to reveal itself.”

“What happens when it opens?”

The doctor swallowed.

“The entire network becomes traceable.”

Ethan went still.

“Every account?”

“Yes.”

“Every shell company?”

“Yes.”

“Every person involved?”

“Yes.”

I understood.

The Architect didn’t want Noah dead.

He wanted Noah controlled.

Because my son was not just a child.

He was the final key.

My phone buzzed.

Unknown number.

BRING THE BOY TO PIER 9.

I stared at the message.

Then another arrived.

COME ALONE.

Ethan saw it.

“No.”

“I’m going.”

“You’re not.”

“He’s my son.”

“And that is exactly why you’re vulnerable.”

“I don’t care.”

Ethan looked at me for several seconds.

Then he said:

“We go together.”

Pier 9 was abandoned.

Fog covered the water.

A man stood near the edge.

Gregory.

Alive.

He smiled when he saw me.

“You really believed Elena was the Architect?”

“You said she was.”

“I said she was part of it.”

“Where is my father?”

Gregory pointed toward the boat.

“He’s inside.”

I moved forward.

Ethan blocked me.

“Wait.”

Gregory laughed.

“You still don’t trust him?”

“No,” I said.

“I don’t trust anyone.”

Gregory smiled.

“That’s finally smart.”

He threw something onto the ground.

A photograph.

My father.

Daniel.

Ethan.

And Elena.

All standing together.

The timestamp was twenty years old.

I stared.

“They built this together.”

Gregory nodded.

“Your father, Daniel, Elena, and Ethan’s father.”

Ethan stepped forward.

“My father?”

“Your father created the network.”

Ethan’s face went cold.

“What network?”

“The one you thought you were destroying.”

Gregory looked at me.

“Your family created it.”

“Why?”

“War.”

“Money.”

“Power.”

Then he looked at Noah.

“But when your mother realized what they had built, she tried to destroy it.”

My chest tightened.

“That’s why they killed her.”

“Yes.”

“Then why did my father help them?”

Gregory smiled.

“Because he didn’t.”

I stared at him.

“Your father betrayed them.”

“Then why was he working with Daniel?”

Gregory looked at Ethan.

“Because Daniel betrayed them too.”

A gunshot cracked through the fog.

Gregory collapsed.

I screamed.

Ethan pulled me behind cover.

Across the pier stood a man.

He slowly stepped into the light.

My father.

He looked at me.

Then at Noah.

And whispered:

“I’m sorry.”

May you like

Then he raised his gun at Ethan.

End of Chapter 11.
