Chapter 15 - The Brother Who Never DrownedWe found the hidden chamber beneath the lighthouse minutes later.

Vanessa had not betrayed us.
She had tricked Sebastian.
She had taken Noah through a second tunnel and locked him in a secure maintenance room.
But Sebastian had anticipated it.
He was waiting.
The final confrontation was not dramatic.
It was quiet.
Almost painfully quiet.
Sebastian stood beside the ocean-facing window.
Andrew held Noah.
Clara stood behind him.
My father entered.
For the first time, all the secrets were in the same room.
Sebastian smiled.
"Daniel."
Our father looked at him.
"You should have stayed dead."
Sebastian laughed.
"You first."
He raised his weapon.
My father moved.
Andrew fired.
The shot hit Sebastian in the shoulder.
Sebastian staggered.
I rushed forward and took his gun.
He fell against the wall.
Police sirens could be heard far below.
I looked at Vanessa.
She was bleeding from her side.
But she was alive.
I looked at Andrew.
Alive.
My brother.
The ghost who had haunted every birthday, every holiday, every empty chair at the dinner table.
Alive.
Noah walked toward him.
"Dad."
Andrew knelt.
"I'm here."
Noah wrapped his arms around him.
I turned toward Sebastian.
"You lost."
He smiled through the blood.
"No."
He nodded toward the desk.
"You still haven't opened the final file."
I looked.
A single envelope.
My name.
I opened it.
Inside was one photograph.
Me.
As a child.
Standing beside a little girl.
Clara.
But the date on the back made my blood freeze.
I was four years old.
Clara was six.
And behind us stood another child.
A boy.
Same eyes as Andrew.
Same face as our father.
A boy I had never seen.
I looked at Andrew.
"Who is that?"
He stared at the photograph.
His face went pale.
"That's not possible."
"Who?"
He didn't answer.
Clara stepped closer.
She looked at the photograph.
Then at me.
"That's Sebastian's son."
I frowned.
"Sebastian never had a son."
She shook her head.
"He did."
"When?"
"Before he married anyone."
"Where is he now?"
Clara looked at Sebastian.
For the first time, fear appeared in the old man's eyes.
"Tell him," she said.
Sebastian smiled.
But his voice was barely a whisper.
"You've been talking to him for years."
I felt the room go still.
"Who?"
Sebastian's eyes moved toward my father.
"No."
Then toward Andrew.
"No."
Finally, toward me.
"No."
He smiled.
"You've been looking for the wrong dead man."
My heart stopped.
"What are you saying?"
Sebastian whispered:
"Andrew wasn't the brother we thought had drowned."
Andrew stared.
Sebastian continued.
"Your real brother disappeared before you were born."
Silence.
I looked at my father.
He couldn't meet my eyes.
Then I looked at the photograph again.
The boy's face.
The same eyes.
The same scar above the eyebrow.
I knew those eyes.
I had seen them somewhere.
Not in a photograph.
Not in a memory.
In person.
Recently.
I turned toward the doorway.
A security guard stood there.
He was watching me.
Seven years.
Working around my family.
Quiet.
Invisible.
Always present.
I stared at him.
"What's your name?"
He smiled.
For the first time, I noticed the scar above his eyebrow.
"My name?"
He stepped into the light.
"Andrew."
My brother dropped his weapon.
Noah screamed.
Clara backed away.
And I realized the man beside me for the last three days...
the man I had trusted to protect my family...
was the brother who had never drowned.
Then the real Andrew looked at me.
And whispered four words.
"He's not my father."
I turned toward Sebastian.
Sebastian was smiling.
And somewhere beneath the lighthouse, a phone began to ring.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
Nobody moved.
Because we all knew one thing now.
Sebastian Voss had not been the mastermind.
He had been hiding someone else.
Someone far closer.
Someone who had been watching us the entire time.
I reached for the phone.
The screen showed one name.
MOM.
I answered.
Silence.
Then my mother's voice came through.
Soft.
Terrified.
"Alexander..."
A long pause.
Then she whispered:
"Do not trust the man standing beside you."
The line went dead.
I slowly turned.
The man wearing my brother's face was smiling.
And behind him, Noah was staring at something on the floor.
A small brass key.
The same kind I had found in Room 217.
Noah bent down.
Picked it up.
Then he looked at me.
"Dad..."
His voice trembled.
"This key opens my father's grave."
I felt the blood leave my face.
Because my brother had been standing beside me.
The entire time.
May you like
And somewhere beneath the earth...
someone had been buried in his name.
