Chapter 14 - We arrived at the factory before midnight.Police surrounded the perimeter.

Elena coordinated the operation.

Daniel stayed behind with Claire and Noah.

Rebecca refused to leave.

Samuel disappeared into the darkness to find a second entrance.

I walked through the main gate.

Derek stood under a hanging light.

He looked exhausted.

Not powerful.

Not dangerous.

Desperate.

“Where's Noah?”

Derek looked toward a steel staircase.

“He's upstairs.”

“Alive?”

“Yes.”

“Then you and I are done.”

Derek laughed.

“You still don't understand.”

“Explain.”

He shook his head.

“I didn't plan this.”

“Then who did?”

Derek looked behind me.

Rebecca stepped forward.

He flinched.

“You.”

Her expression hardened.

“You were always weak.”

Derek laughed again.

“I married your daughter because I was told to.”

Claire appeared at the doorway behind her mother.

“You didn't love me?”

Derek looked at Claire.

For the first time, guilt appeared on his face.

“I did.”

“Then why?”

“Because I needed the trust.”

“You never deserved it.”

“No.”

He lowered his head.

“I didn't.”

Then Derek pointed upstairs.

“Noah is there.”

I moved.

A gunshot cracked.

Derek fell.

I turned.

Marilyn stood at the far end of the factory.

She had shot him.

Claire screamed.

Marilyn raised the gun again.

“None of you understand what this family owes me.”

Samuel tackled her from behind.

The gun slid across the floor.

Police rushed in.

Marilyn was arrested.

But the moment she was handcuffed, she started laughing.

“It's too late.”

Daniel shouted:

“What did you activate?”

Marilyn smiled.

“The transfer.”

Claire froze.

“No.”

Daniel checked the trust system.

The authorization screen had changed.

ACTIVE.

Then a timer appeared.

09:47:23.

Nine hours.

Forty-seven minutes.

A countdown.

The assets would transfer automatically.

To an offshore entity.

Unless Claire stopped it.

“How?”

Daniel pulled up the instructions.

Claire needed to sign a declaration.

But the declaration contained a trap.

By signing, she would also accept liability for every transaction ever made under her name.

She would become legally responsible for the entire network.

Claire stared at the screen.

“They want me to choose.”

“Exactly.”

“Either lose everything.”

“Or take responsibility for everything.”

I looked at Daniel.

“There has to be another way.”

“There is.”

“What?”

“Break the protocol.”

“How?”

“Destroy the original Anchor.”

I looked at myself.

Me.

Robert Hale.

The system had been designed around my identity.

My biometric authorization.

My accounts.

My name.

If I withdrew from the trust structure, the network would collapse.

But there was one catch.

I would lose everything too.

My houses.

My companies.

My legitimate wealth.

Everything.

Claire stepped forward.

“Dad, no.”

I looked at her.

“I spent years believing money meant security.”

I smiled.

“It doesn't.”

Daniel warned me.

“Once you trigger the collapse, there is no reversal.”

“Do it.”

Claire grabbed my arm.

“You'll have nothing.”

I looked at Noah.

Then her.

“I'll have you.”

We initiated the protocol.

The factory lights went out.

Every computer screen went black.

Then one sentence appeared.

ANCHOR TERMINATED.

The countdown stopped.

The trust accounts froze.

The offshore transfers failed.

Millions of dollars became inaccessible.

Evelyn's system collapsed.

But there was one final message.

ACCESSING EMERGENCY SUCCESSOR.

I stared at the screen.

“What's that?”

Daniel went pale.

“Someone else was designated.”

“Who?”

The screen loaded.

A name appeared.

CLAIRE HALE.

Claire stepped backward.

“No.”

Then another line appeared.

SUCCESSOR ACTIVE.

And beneath it:

AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED.

Claire's biometric profile appeared.

The system had recognized her.

She wasn't free.

She was the new Anchor.

Rebecca whispered:

“No…”

Suddenly every door in the factory locked.

The alarms began.

A voice came through the speakers.

“Congratulations, Claire.”

Evelyn.

“You've inherited the machine.”

Claire looked at me.

“Dad?”

I grabbed her hand.

“We'll destroy it.”

The voice laughed.

“You can't.”

Then the main screen displayed something we had never seen before.

A list of hundreds of hidden accounts.

Hundreds of companies.

Hundreds of people.

All waiting.

All connected.

The final message appeared.

WELCOME TO PHASE FOUR.

Then the lights exploded.
