Chapter 11 - The Woman in the WallsDavid spun around.

Evelyn stood behind him.

Alive.

Older.

Paler.

But unmistakably Evelyn.

For several seconds, neither moved.

Then David whispered her name.

“Evelyn.”

She smiled sadly.

“I knew you would eventually find me.”

David stepped toward her.

“You're alive.”

“Yes.”

“You let me believe you were dead.”

“I had to.”

“You let me bury an empty coffin.”

“I had no choice.”

David's voice broke.

“You let me raise a child who wasn't ours.”

Evelyn closed her eyes.

“I know.”

“And Lily?”

“I protected her.”

“From whom?”

Evelyn looked toward the lawyer.

“From all of them.”

The lawyer raised his gun.

“You've said enough.”

Evelyn didn't move.

“You still don't understand, David.”

“What?”

“The trust isn't about money.”

David frowned.

“Then what is it about?”

Evelyn looked at Benjamin.

“The child.”

Benjamin looked confused.

“The trust was created to protect the first heir from the people who wanted to use him.”

David looked at the ledger.

“What does that have to do with the bloodline?”

Evelyn answered softly.

“Your family fortune is connected to a private foundation that controls assets across several countries. The legal heir has voting power over all of it.”

David understood.

“That makes Benjamin a target.”

“Yes.”

“And Lily?”

“Her existence creates a competing claim.”

Karen stepped forward.

“So the family split the children.”

Evelyn nodded.

“One child in hiding.”

“One child in the mansion.”

“And you?”

“I became a ghost.”

David stared at her.

“Why didn't you trust me?”

Evelyn's eyes filled with tears.

“Because your father had already convinced me you were working with him.”

David went still.

“What?”

“He showed me documents. Letters. Financial transfers.”

“They were fake.”

“I know that now.”

The lawyer laughed.

“Too late.”

Evelyn turned.

“You were the one who forged them.”

“Yes.”

David grabbed a metal chair.

“Where is my father?”

The lawyer's smile vanished.

“Dead.”

“Then who ordered everything?”

The lawyer didn't answer.

A slow clap came from the corridor.

Everyone turned.

Arthur appeared.

David froze.

“No.”

But this time Arthur was not a ghost.

He was wearing a black coat.

Alive.

His eyes were cold.

He walked into the chamber.

David stepped backward.

“You…”

Arthur looked at Evelyn.

“You brought them all together.”

Evelyn whispered, “It's over.”

Arthur smiled.

“No.”

He looked at Benjamin.

“It begins tonight.”

David raised the gun.

“You're behind this.”

Arthur nodded.

“I was.”

“Why?”

Arthur pointed at the boy.

“Because the family trust requires an heir.”

David said, “He is the heir.”

Arthur shook his head.

“No.”

The room went silent.

Arthur smiled.

“Benjamin was never the first heir.”

He pointed at Lily.

“She was.”

David looked at the two children.

Arthur continued.

“And the girl you've been calling Lily for eight years…”

He pointed toward her.

“Isn't Lily either.”

The girl stepped backward.

Evelyn gasped.

May you like

Arthur's final words landed like a blade.

“She is the daughter of the person who started all of this.”
