Chapter 11 - BloodI couldn’t hear anything after that.

The room became a blur.

Adrian stared at the screen.

Daniel whispered:

“She knew.”

My hands were shaking.

“No.”

Adrian turned toward me.

“Cara…”

“No.”

I backed away.

“You’re lying.”

“I’m not.”

“You knew?”

“I suspected.”

“Suspected?”

He had no answer.

I ran.

Adrian followed.

“Cara, stop.”

“Don’t touch me.”

I reached the hallway.

He grabbed the railing instead of me.

“I didn’t know.”

I turned.

“You knew enough to investigate me.”

“Yes.”

“You knew my mother.”

“Yes.”

“You knew my brother.”

“Yes.”

“And now I’m supposed to believe you didn’t know we were related?”

His face broke.

“I swear to you.”

I hated that I believed him.

Then Toby called.

I answered.

His voice was faint.

“Cara.”

“I’m here.”

“Come back.”

“Why?”

“I remembered something.”

“What?”

“Our mother had another child.”

My stomach turned.

“Who?”

“I don’t know.”

A pause.

“Adrian.”

I looked at him.

Toby continued.

“She said there were two babies.”

My heart stopped.

Adrian’s eyes narrowed.

“Two?”

“Yes.”

Then the line went dead.

We rushed back to the hospital.

Toby was gone.

His bed was empty.

The window was locked.

The guards were unconscious.

On the pillow sat one black envelope.

Adrian opened it.

Inside was a photograph.

A newborn baby.

A red-haired woman holding him.

On the back:

One Duca son. One hidden heir. Find the daughter before Black Ledger does.

Adrian looked at me.

“Daughter.”

I whispered:

“Me.”

His phone rang.

He answered.

A distorted voice said:

“Not you.”

May you like

Pause.

“Your sister.”
