Chapter 11 - The Woman They Wanted SilentEmma woke inside a locked room.

Her wrists were tied.
A single light hung overhead.
She heard footsteps outside.
The door opened.
The chief of security entered.
Marcus.
Emma stared at him.
“Daniel will find me.”
Marcus smiled.
“That is why you were moved.”
“You'll never get away with this.”
“I don't need to.”
He placed a folder on the table.
Inside were documents.
Names.
Payments.
Photographs.
Emma stared.
“What is this?”
“The truth your brother never wanted.”
“My brother doesn't know about this.”
Marcus smiled.
“He knows more than he thinks.”
Emma shook her head.
“You're lying.”
Marcus leaned closer.
“Ask him why your father's insurance policy was changed three days before his death.”
Emma froze.
Marcus walked away.
The door closed.
Hours later, Daniel traced the location.
A former rehabilitation center outside the city.
He and Rachel entered through the rear.
They found Emma.
She was alive.
Barely.
Daniel cut her restraints.
Emma grabbed his arm.
“Daniel.”
“I'm here.”
“You have to listen.”
Rachel knelt beside her.
“Tell us what you found.”
Emma looked at her.
“Your mother.”
Rachel froze.
“What about her?”
“She's not the one who started Project Mercy.”
Rachel frowned.
“Then who?”
Emma looked at Daniel.
“Your father.”
Daniel closed his eyes.
“We know.”
“No.”
Emma shook her head.
“You don't.”
She handed Rachel the folder.
“This is the original trial register.”
Rachel opened it.
The first subjects were not strangers.
They were children.
Children from powerful families.
Children whose parents had made deals with the Moretti organization.
Rachel's blood ran cold.
“Why children?”
Emma whispered:
“Because they could track genetic inheritance.”
Daniel read the next page.
Then stopped.
His own name.
Age 12.
Rachel's name.
Age 2.
Emma stared at them.
“You were both registered.”
Rachel's hands trembled.
Daniel asked:
“Who approved it?”
Emma pointed to the signature.
Daniel looked.
His mother.
Not his father.
Daniel's face changed.
His mother had supposedly died years earlier.
But the signature was dated six years after her funeral.
Rachel whispered:
“She's alive too.”
No one answered.
That night, they moved Emma to a secure hospital.
Rachel stayed beside her.
Daniel searched the files.
At 3:06 a.m., he found another document.
A bank transfer.
Payments had been made every month for seventeen years.
To one account.
The beneficiary name was:
Isabella Moretti.
Daniel stared at the screen.
His dead mother.
His entire life had been a lie.
He called the bank.
The account was active.
Last transaction:
Yesterday.
Daniel's breath caught.
He called Rachel.
She entered the room.
“What happened?”
“My mother is alive.”
Rachel stared.
“How?”
“I don't know.”
Emma woke.
“Daniel.”
He turned.
“Do you know where she is?”
Emma nodded weakly.
“She came to me.”
Daniel froze.
“When?”
“Yesterday.”
“Why didn't you tell me?”
“She told me not to.”
“Where is she?”
Emma pointed toward Rachel.
“She asked about your wife.”
Rachel stepped closer.
“What did she say?”
Emma swallowed.
“She said…”
Her eyes filled with fear.
“Rachel was never supposed to be married to you.”
Daniel's expression hardened.
“Why?”
May you like
Emma whispered:
“Because the marriage triggered the final stage of Project Mercy.”
