Chapter 11 - The Fortune Nobody Was Supposed to FindThe river carried them into a town far from the city.

By dawn, they reached a small warehouse.
Olivia refused to explain anything until the babies were fed.
Caleb found a grocery store.
He bought formula, blankets, clothes, medicine and enough food to fill three carts.
When he returned, Olivia was sitting with his mother.
The two women were talking quietly.
Caleb heard only one sentence.
“They're going to kill him too.”
He stepped inside.
“Who?”
Both women went silent.
Olivia shook her head.
His mother reached for his hand.
“Caleb, there is something your grandfather hid.”
“The money.”
“Yes.”
“How much?”
She looked at him.
“More than you think.”
She explained that the Hart family had secretly accumulated assets through shell companies, private trusts and offshore foundations.
The fortune was worth billions.
But it was inaccessible.
Only Caleb could unlock it.
Yet there was one more condition.
The trust required three living witnesses connected to the original beneficiaries.
The babies.
Caleb suddenly realized why Martin had been hunting them.
If Martin controlled the babies, he could control the inheritance.
But there was another problem.
The trust had a failsafe.
If Caleb died before activating it, everything would be frozen permanently.
Martin couldn't simply kill him.
He needed Caleb to sign.
That meant the legal petition accusing Caleb of mental incompetence was not just about controlling his companies.
It was about forcing him to surrender the trust.
Caleb looked at his mother.
“What do we do?”
“We expose everything.”
“To the police?”
“To everyone.”
“But where's the evidence?”
Olivia reached into the baby's bag.
She pulled out a tiny silver bracelet.
Inside it was a memory chip.
Caleb stared.
“You had this the whole time?”
“Rebecca gave it to me.”
“What is on it?”
“Everything.”
They connected it to a laptop.
Files appeared.
Payments.
Names.
Bank accounts.
Video recordings.
Doctors.
Lawyers.
Judges.
Politicians.
It was enormous.
Caleb felt sick.
Then they found one final folder.
“PROJECT LILY.”
Caleb opened it.
The file contained a DNA analysis.
He stared.
The father listed for Lily was…
Caleb.
His breath stopped.
“No.”
His mother covered her mouth.
Olivia looked down.
Caleb stared at the screen.
“The test says Lily is my daughter.”
Silence.
“How?”
His mother began crying.
“Your grandfather…”
“No.”
She shook her head.
“He wasn't her father.”
“Then who?”
Olivia whispered,
“Rebecca told me the truth before she died.”
She looked directly at Caleb.
“Lily was born from a relationship your family tried to erase.”
Caleb couldn't breathe.
He looked at the baby.
Then at Olivia.
“You knew?”
“Yes.”
“How long?”
“Three years.”
Caleb stumbled backward.
Everything changed again.
The three babies were not merely connected to the Hart family.
One was his.
Then the laptop screen suddenly flashed.
A message appeared.
“You have six hours.”
Underneath it:
“Bring Lily alone.”
The sender name was Martin.
And attached was a photograph of George.
