Chapter 8 - THE BROTHER WHO BECAME A FATHERWillow couldn't move.

“No.”

Josiah looked at her.

“I was going to tell you.”

“You're saying Adrian is my father?”

Josiah nodded.

Willow's eyes filled with tears.

“But you said he was your brother.”

“He is.”

Evelyn smiled.

“Half-brother.”

The world seemed to tilt.

Josiah spoke.

“My mother had another child.”

Adrian.

“He was sent away.”

Years later, he returned.

And Elena discovered the truth.

Adrian had fathered a child with Willow's mother.

That child was Willow.

But Evelyn wanted something more.

She wanted to use Willow as leverage against both brothers.

Because Willow's bloodline connected two branches of the Vale family.

That made her uniquely valuable.

“She was the bridge,” Evelyn explained.

“The perfect successor.”

Willow stared at her.

“You ruined my entire life.”

Evelyn smiled.

“No.”

She looked at Mia.

“I gave your life meaning.”

Willow stepped forward.

“What do you want from Mia?”

“The same thing I wanted from you.”

“To control her?”

“To protect the empire.”

Mia shouted:

“I don't want your empire!”

Evelyn's face changed.

For the first time, anger appeared.

“You don't understand.”

“I understand enough!”

Mia struggled against the guard.

“Daddy loves me!”

Evelyn looked at Josiah.

“He does.”

Then she pointed to Willow.

“And she does too.”

Willow realized what Evelyn was doing.

Dividing them.

Manipulating them.

Making everyone believe there was only one way out.

Willow looked at the courtroom.

Then at the ceiling.

Then at Mia.

She noticed a small red light.

Security camera.

Recording.

She smiled.

Evelyn didn't notice.

“You said you wanted the person who can open the ledger.”

“Yes.”

“I can.”

Evelyn leaned forward.

“How?”

“Bring me the ledger.”

“It isn't here.”

“Then you don't need me.”

Evelyn's eyes narrowed.

Willow continued.

“You think you're in control.”

She glanced at Josiah.

“But you're not.”

A gunshot echoed.

One of Evelyn's guards fell.

Adrian emerged from the balcony.

Alive.

Bloodied.

Furious.

Chaos erupted.

Josiah attacked the nearest guard.

Willow grabbed Mia.

Evelyn disappeared through a side door.

Adrian shouted:

“GET OUT!”

They ran.

But Mia suddenly stopped.

“Willow!”

“What?”

“Grandma took the red box.”

Willow's face changed.

“The one from the house?”

Mia nodded.

“She said it contains the last page.”

“The last page of what?”

Mia whispered:

“The ledger.”

Everyone froze.

Adrian stared at her.

“Where is it?”

Mia pointed toward Evelyn's escape route.

“She took it.”

Josiah's eyes became cold.

“Then we follow.”

They reached the underground tunnels beneath the courthouse.

At the end stood Evelyn.

She held a single sheet of paper.

The final page.

She smiled.

“You came.”

Josiah raised his gun.

“Give it to me.”

Evelyn shook her head.

“No.”

She held the page toward a candle.

The corner caught fire.

Willow screamed.

“No!”

Evelyn smiled.

“I spent thirty years waiting for this.”

The paper began burning.

Then Evelyn said:

“There is one name on this page that will destroy all of you.”

Josiah stepped forward.

“What name?”

Evelyn looked directly at Mia.

Then answered:

“Your mother's.”

The fire reached the center.

And Josiah realized something.

Evelyn wasn't destroying the evidence.

She was hiding what it revealed.

May you like

Because the name on that page...

wasn't Elena.
