Chapter 15 - “Adrian!”Ethan stepped between the gun and his daughter.

Adrian’s hand shook.

“Move.”

“No.”

“You don’t understand.”

“I understand enough.”

Victor smiled behind him.

“You always were too trusting.”

Ethan stared at Adrian.

“Put the gun down.”

Adrian’s eyes filled with tears.

“I can’t.”

Victor stepped forward.

“You see, Ethan, your brother finally made the right choice.”

Ethan glanced at Lily.

She was terrified.

Claire stood frozen beside Amelia.

Margaret lay injured on the floor.

Marcus was pinned outside by Victor’s remaining men.

Everything had come down to this.

A single room.

Two daughters.

Two brothers.

One empire.

And seven years of lies.

Ethan looked directly at Adrian.

“Tell me the truth.”

Adrian swallowed.

“I helped Victor.”

Victor smiled.

“But not because I wanted to.”

Adrian continued.

“He had Claire.”

Ethan looked at the second girl.

Victor nodded.

“She is the child he used to control me.”

Adrian lowered his weapon slightly.

“I thought if I stayed close, I could keep her alive.”

“So you helped him replace Lily?”

“Yes.”

“You helped him poison me?”

“No.”

“Then why did you bring me here?”

Adrian looked at Victor.

“Because he lied.”

Victor’s smile faded.

Adrian suddenly turned the gun.

He shot Victor in the shoulder.

Victor staggered.

Ethan grabbed Lily.

Claire screamed.

Adrian fired again.

Victor fell against the wall.

Security rushed inside.

Marcus entered with his team.

They surrounded Victor.

He laughed despite the blood.

“You think this changes anything?”

Ethan looked at the files.

“Yes.”

He held up the original trust.

“Because I know what you were afraid of.”

Victor stared.

“The truth.”

Ethan opened the final page.

His father had added a clause that Victor had missed.

If any heir was proven to have been intentionally concealed, all trust provisions benefiting conspirators would become void.

And the entire Blackwood fortune would be transferred into a protected family foundation.

Victor stared in disbelief.

“No.”

Ethan smiled faintly.

“You lost.”

Victor laughed.

“You still have no idea which girl is the real heir.”

Ethan turned.

The two girls stood together.

Identical.

He walked toward them.

He did not look at the documents.

He did not look at the bracelets.

He looked at their faces.

Claire stepped forward.

“I’m sorry.”

Lily took her hand.

“Me too.”

Ethan knelt.

“You are both my daughters.”

Neither girl moved.

For the first time in seven years, Ethan did not care which child had been born first.

He only cared that both had survived.

Amelia began to cry.

She knelt beside them.

“Our family.”

The words broke something inside Ethan.

A noise came from the doorway.

Police entered.

Victor was arrested.

Adrian surrendered his weapon.

Margaret survived surgery.

Nora testified.

Daniel Cross’s files were recovered.

The hospital nurse was found alive.

The original footage became the central evidence.

Months later, the Blackwood board was dissolved.

The trust was rewritten.

Victor went to trial.

Adrian accepted responsibility for his role in the conspiracy.

And the family finally learned the full truth about the fire.

There had never been one death.

There had been a war.

A war over blood, inheritance, identity, and silence.

But one mystery remained.

On the night before the family trial, Ethan found Lily standing alone in the hallway.

“Can’t sleep?”

She shook her head.

“Daddy?”

“Yes?”

She looked at the old photograph from the hospital.

“There were three babies.”

Ethan froze.

“What?”

Lily pointed to the background.

Near the nursery window was a third bassinet.

Small.

Empty.

Ethan stared at the image.

He had studied that photograph dozens of times.

He had never noticed it.

Lily whispered:

“I remember her.”

Ethan’s heart began pounding.

“You remember another baby?”

“Yes.”

“Who was she?”

Lily looked toward the dark hallway.

“She was crying.”

Ethan swallowed.

“What happened to her?”

Lily slowly shook her head.

“I don’t know.”

“Then how do you remember her?”

Lily looked up at him.

“Because Mommy told me not to tell anyone.”

Ethan stared at her.

Amelia appeared at the end of the hallway.

Her face had gone white.

Ethan stood.

“What did she tell you?”

Lily answered softly.

“She said the third baby…”

Amelia closed her eyes.

“…was born after the fire started.”

Silence.

Ethan turned toward Amelia.

“Amelia.”

She looked at him.

Tears filled her eyes.

“I thought she was dead.”

The house became completely still.

Then Ethan heard something.

A faint sound from upstairs.

Three slow knocks.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Everyone looked up.

A child’s voice came from the hallway.

“Daddy?”

Ethan stopped breathing.

It was not Lily.

It was not Claire.

And it was not Amelia.

A tiny voice whispered from the darkness:

“You forgot about me.”

May you like

The lights went out.

And somewhere in the Blackwood house, a little girl began to laugh.
