Chapter 4: The Name That Changed Everything

Chapter 4: The Name That Changed Everything

The little girl picked up the photograph with trembling hands.

She traced the smiling woman's face.

Then...

Without warning...

Memories flooded back.

Fire.

Smoke.

A woman crying.

Someone carrying a baby through the flames.

Another child screaming.

And one sentence echoing over and over.

"Take your brother and run."

Emily collapsed to her knees.

The boy caught her before she hit the marble.

She looked up at him.

This time...

There was no hesitation.

No uncertainty.

She wrapped her arms around him.

"Lucas..."

She whispered his name as if she had never forgotten it.

The father froze.

Only one person had ever called the missing baby Lucas.

His wife.

The woman everyone believed had died that night.

A slow clap echoed from the back of the ballroom.

One.

Two.

Three.

Every head turned.

An elderly man stepped out of the shadows.

Perfect gray suit.

Silver cane.

Cold smile.

"I've waited eighteen years..."

He looked directly at the father.

"...for this family to remember the truth."

The ballroom doors locked behind him.

Metal bolts slammed into place.

CLICK.

Every exit was sealed.

The old man smiled again.

"But now..."

He raised a small black remote.

May you like

"...none of you are leaving until you hear what really happened the night of the fire."

End.
