CHAPTER 2: THE VOICE BEHIND THE SHADOW The footprint was fresh. Too fresh. Santiago stared at it for several seconds, unable to move. The garden suddenly felt different. The roses. The greenhouse. The quiet morning air. Everything that once represented peace now felt like a carefully built illusion. Someone had been watching them. Someone had heard Abril’s confession. Someone knew Santiago had escaped. “Where is the phone?” Santiago asked. His voice was calm. Too calm. Abril looked terrified. “I... I had it in my hand.” She searched her pockets quickly. “It was there. I swear.” Santiago looked around the garden. “No one leaves a place like this without being seen.” Then he noticed something. The greenhouse door. It was slightly open. Only a few inches. But Santiago knew that door. It was always locked. Always. He walked toward it. Abril followed behind him. “Sir, wait.” But Santiago kept moving. Inside the greenhouse, the air was warm and heavy. Rows of rare flowers surrounded them. The same flowers Valeria claimed were her favorite. The same place where she had just destroyed their marriage. Then Santiago saw something on the ground. A small piece of black fabric. He picked it up. A torn piece from a jacket. Not his. Not Abril’s. Someone had been there. Suddenly... A sound came from behind the plants. A phone vibrating. Santiago turned. Slowly. A second phone was hidden beneath a flower pot. Not Abril’s. Not his. A burner phone. The screen showed one unread message. "He knows." Santiago’s face hardened. Then another message appeared. "Move to Plan B." Abril looked at him. “What does that mean?” Santiago didn’t answer. Because deep inside... He already knew. The car was not the plan. The car was only the beginning. His phone rang again. This time, the number was unknown. He answered. Silence. Then a distorted voice spoke. “You should have gotten into the car, Santiago.” His blood ran cold. “Who is this?” A quiet laugh. “You spent twenty years building an empire.” A pause. “But you never learned how many people were waiting for you to fall.” Santiago gripped the phone. “Where are you?” The voice became softer. “Closer than you think.” The call ended. At that exact moment... A loud crash came from outside. Santiago and Abril rushed toward the driveway. The black sedan was gone. But something was left behind. The driver’s door was open. The keys were still inside. And on the passenger seat... Was Santiago’s old family photo. The one Valeria had hidden years ago. The one she said was lost forever. Santiago picked it up. Behind the photo was a handwritten message. Three words. "Ask Tomás." / Chapter 1 / 2

CHAPTER 3: THE GARDENER’S SECRET

CHAPTER 3: THE GARDENER’S SECRET

For fifteen years, Tomás had been invisible.

That was exactly how he survived.

He watered the roses.

Trimmed the trees.

Maintained the greenhouse.

He knew every corner of Santiago’s estate.

Every entrance.

Every camera.

Every secret.

But Santiago never imagined Tomás knew his biggest secret.

“Why would someone tell me to ask you?” Santiago asked.

Tomás stood silently in the greenhouse.

His hands trembled.

The old gardener who had spent years caring for flowers suddenly looked like a man carrying a heavy weight.

“Because I should have told you years ago.”

Santiago narrowed his eyes.

“Told me what?”

Tomás looked at Abril.

Then back at Santiago.

“Your wife wasn’t the first person planning to destroy you.”

The room went silent.

Santiago stepped closer.

“What are you saying?”

Tomás sighed.

“Before Valeria married you, she already knew about your company.”

Santiago froze.

“She didn’t meet you by accident.”

Every memory started changing.

Their first meeting.

Their early struggles.

The moments he thought were love.

All of it.

Tomás continued.

“She knew you would become powerful.”

Santiago shook his head.

“No.”

“She knew because someone told her.”

“Who?”

Tomás looked toward the window.

“The person who funded your first business.”

Santiago felt his stomach tighten.

“My investor?”

Tomás nodded.

“The man you trusted more than anyone.”

A name appeared in Santiago’s mind.

The only person who knew everything.

His mentor.

His partner.

The man who helped him build his empire.

Daniel Vargas.

Impossible.

Daniel had died three years ago.

Or at least...

That was what everyone believed.

Suddenly, Abril remembered something.

“Sir...”

She reached into her pocket.

“I copied something before the phone disappeared.”

Santiago looked at her.

“What?”

She pulled out a small memory card.

“The recording.”

They played it.

Static filled the greenhouse.

Then Valeria’s voice appeared.

"...once Santiago is gone, everything transfers."

A man's voice answered.

Calm.

Familiar.

"Not everything."

A pause.

"The company stays with me."

Santiago froze.

Because he knew that voice.

The recording continued.

Valeria whispered:

"What about his wife?"

The man replied:

"She gets the money."

Another pause.

"And I get the empire."

Santiago slowly lowered the phone.

Daniel Vargas.

Alive.

Watching.

Planning.

And now...

Coming for everything.

Then the greenhouse lights suddenly turned off.

Darkness swallowed the room.

A voice came from the doorway.

“You always were slow, Santiago.”

Everyone turned.

A man stood there.

Older.

Calm.

Smiling.

Daniel Vargas.

May you like

Alive.

“Hello, old friend.”
