CHAPTER 4: TESSA’S SECRET

CHAPTER 4: TESSA’S SECRET
I thought Tessa was my enemy.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
Three days after I left Adrian’s house, she asked to meet me.
We sat in a quiet coffee shop.
No drama.
No accusations.
Just two women connected by the same man's secrets.
“I never wanted to hurt you,” she said.
I looked at her.
“You were sleeping with my husband.”
Her eyes dropped.
“I know.”
The honesty surprised me.
“I thought he loved me.”
She looked embarrassed.
“Then I found something.”
She placed another envelope on the table.
Inside was a medical report.
My hands trembled.
“What is this?”
“Adrian has been hiding his health condition.”
I frowned.
“What?”
“He was diagnosed with a serious heart condition two years ago.”
I stared at the paper.
“He never told me.”
“He didn't want anyone to know.”
I felt something break inside.
Not because I felt sorry for him.
Because once again…
He made a decision about my life without letting me choose.
Tessa continued.
“He was planning to leave you.”
I looked up.
“What?”
“He thought you would waste your life taking care of him.”
I closed my eyes.
For fifteen years, Adrian had controlled every truth.
Every decision.
Every choice.
Even his betrayal was disguised as protection.
But love without honesty wasn't love.
It was control.
I folded the papers.
“Why are you telling me this?”
Tessa looked at me.
“Because I realized something.”
“What?”
“He never really saw either of us.”
She paused.
“He only saw what he needed us to be.”
For the first time…
I understood.

Tessa wasn't my replacement.
She was another person trapped inside Adrian’s carefully built illusion.
