Chapter 12 The Choice of the Last Princess

Chapter 12

The Choice of the Last Princess

The vault beneath the palace had waited for centuries.

Kings had entered.

Generals had entered.

The most powerful people in the world had searched for it.

But none of them understood its true purpose.

It was never designed to choose a ruler.

It was designed to reveal a person's heart.

The countdown continued.

00:59:42

Alexander stared at the number.

One hour.

One hour before Michael forced Lily to make the decision that could change everything.

Beside him, Eleanor looked exhausted.

For twenty-six years, she had survived because she refused to surrender.

Now her daughter stood at the center of the same battle.

A battle Eleanor had spent her entire life trying to prevent.

"I should have protected her better."

Alexander looked at her.

"Eleanor..."

She shook her head.

"No."

Her voice cracked.

"I ran."

"I hid."

"I gave her a fake name."

"I watched my daughter grow up without a home."

Tears filled her eyes.

"I promised myself she would never suffer because of my past."

Alexander quietly answered:

"But she suffered because someone stole her future."

Eleanor looked at him.

"And now?"

Alexander looked toward the final chamber.

"Now we give it back."

Inside the Final Chamber

The door opened.

Alexander entered alone.

The room was smaller than the main vault.

No treasure.

No gold.

No ancient weapons.

Only a circular room with a stone table in the center.

And Lily.

She sat quietly beside Michael.

When she saw Alexander...

Her face immediately brightened.

"Mr. Alexander!"

He smiled.

"I'm here."

Michael stood between them.

"How touching."

Alexander ignored him.

He looked only at Lily.

"Are you okay?"

She nodded.

"I'm scared."

Alexander walked closer.

"But I'm okay."

He smiled softly.

"That's brave."

Michael placed the document on the table.

"Let's finish this."

Alexander looked at the paper.

"What exactly is this?"

"The Guardian Transfer."

Michael tapped the page.

"Once Amelia chooses a new Guardian, the original agreement is broken."

"And you become the new Guardian?"

Michael smiled.

"Not me."

He looked toward the shadows.

A figure stepped forward.

Alexander froze.

It was Catherine Vale.

She walked slowly into the chamber.

Unlike before...

She no longer looked like an old historian.

She looked like someone who had been waiting for this moment for decades.

Alexander's eyes narrowed.

"You."

Catherine smiled.

"Yes."

Michael stepped aside.

"I couldn't complete this without her."

Alexander looked at Catherine.

"You were working with him."

"Not with him."

She glanced at Michael.

"With the Order."

The Last Betrayal

Eleanor entered behind Alexander.

The moment Catherine saw her...

Her expression changed.

For the first time...

A crack appeared in her perfect control.

"You shouldn't be alive."

Eleanor's voice was cold.

"You said that twenty-six years ago."

Catherine smiled sadly.

"And I was right."

Alexander looked between them.

"What happened that night?"

Nobody answered.

Then Eleanor spoke.

"Catherine was the one who told my father about the Guardian Trust."

Alexander looked shocked.

"She betrayed the royal family?"

Catherine laughed.

"Your family betrayed itself."

Eleanor's eyes hardened.

"No."

"You wanted the power."

Catherine stepped closer.

"I wanted the truth."

Catherine's Belief

Catherine looked around the chamber.

"For centuries, families fought over this."

"Kings."

"Nobles."

"Corporations."

"Everyone wanted control."

She looked at Alexander.

"But nobody asked whether humanity needed another dynasty."

Alexander remained silent.

"So you destroyed my family?"

Catherine shook her head.

"I tried to reset it."

"Millions of people suffer because powerful families control resources."

"The Guardian Trust could have changed the world."

Alexander answered:

"No."

"You wanted to own it."

Catherine smiled faintly.

"Power always sounds evil when someone else has it."

Lily's Question

Lily quietly looked at Catherine.

"Why do you want me to choose you?"

Everyone became silent.

Catherine looked surprised.

Perhaps she expected fear.

Not a question.

"Because I can protect you."

Lily tilted her head.

"But Mr. Alexander protects me too."

Catherine smiled.

"He is emotional."

"Emotion makes people weak."

Lily looked down.

Then asked:

"Did my mommy cry because she was weak?"

Catherine froze.

"No."

"She cried because she loved me."

The room became silent.

The Real Guardian

Alexander slowly approached Lily.

He did not touch the document.

He did not ask her to choose him.

Instead, he knelt.

"Lily."

She looked at him.

"I need you to know something."

"What?"

"You don't owe me anything."

Michael frowned.

"What are you doing?"

Alexander ignored him.

"You don't have to choose me."

"You don't have to choose anyone."

Lily looked confused.

"But everyone wants me to."

Alexander nodded.

"I know."

He smiled.

"But your mother spent her whole life protecting your freedom."

"Nobody gets to take that away."

Catherine stared at Alexander.

"You would let her choose someone else?"

"Yes."

"Even if you lose everything?"

Alexander looked toward the vault.

"I never wanted any of this."

A pause.

"I wanted a family."

For the first time...

The ancient chamber changed.

A low sound echoed beneath the floor.

The stone table began glowing.

Everyone froze.

The Guardian system had activated.

But no one had touched the document.

Father Benedict's voice came through the chamber speakers.

"The vault is responding."

Victor looked shocked.

"Impossible."

Alexander looked at the symbols appearing on the wall.

A message formed.

THE GUARDIAN IS NOT CHOSEN BY THE HEIR.

Everyone stared.

Another line appeared.

THE GUARDIAN IS RECOGNIZED BY SACRIFICE.

Michael's face changed.

"No..."

Catherine stepped back.

"That's not possible."

The final words appeared:

THE GUARDIAN HAS ALREADY BEEN FOUND.

The stone table opened.

Inside rested an ancient book.

The Book of Guardians.

It slowly turned pages by itself.

Stopping at one name.

ALEXANDER STERLING.

Michael's expression collapsed.

Catherine became pale.

The vault had rejected their plan.

Because the Guardian was never something that could be stolen.

The Hidden Recording

A final message activated.

An old recording appeared.

Alexander's grandfather appeared on the screen.

Older.

Tired.

But smiling.

"Alexander."

Everyone froze.

"If you are seeing this..."

"Then the world has reached the moment I feared."

The old king continued.

"The Guardian is not the strongest."

"Not the richest."

"Not the most powerful."

He looked directly into the camera.

"The Guardian is the person who would give everything away to protect someone else."

Alexander looked toward Lily.

The old king smiled.

"And that person has always been you."

Suddenly...

The entire vault shook.

Warning lights flashed.

Michael looked at the control panel.

"What did you do?"

Catherine stepped back.

"The Order..."

"They activated the failsafe."

Victor looked horrified.

"The vault is collapsing."

Stone began falling from the ceiling.

Dust filled the room.

Michael grabbed the document.

Catherine ran toward the exit.

Everyone moved.

Except Lily.

A massive stone beam fell directly above her.

Alexander didn't hesitate.

He ran.

Pushed her away.

The beam crashed down.

The last thing everyone heard...

Was the sound of stone breaking.

When the dust cleared...

Lily opened her eyes.

Alexander was beneath the fallen structure.

Still conscious.

But trapped.

"Mr. Alexander!"

She rushed toward him.

He smiled weakly.

"I'm okay."

But everyone could see the truth.

He was hurt badly.

Victor and Eleanor tried moving the stone.

Impossible.

Then Lily noticed something.

The silver hairpin in her hand began glowing.

The final secret of the royal hairpins...

May you like

Had not yet been revealed.
