CHAPTER 2: THE FOOTAGE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING The massive screen above the fireplace flickered. For a moment, nobody moved. The guests who had arrived expecting a luxurious evening of champagne and meaningless conversations now stood frozen, watching a family collapse in real time. Victoria Vale stared at the screen. The confidence she had carried only minutes earlier had disappeared. Because she knew. Whatever was on that footage, it was something she could not explain away. Adrian remained standing in the center of the hall. His expression was unreadable. That was what frightened people most about him. When Adrian Vale was angry, he did not break things. He did not scream. He did not make empty threats. He simply made decisions. And once Adrian made a decision, there was no turning back. The security footage began. The video showed the hallway outside the servants' area. The timestamp appeared in the corner. Three weeks earlier. Clara was walking slowly, carrying a small box of medical supplies. She looked exhausted. Her pregnancy was beginning to show, though she had tried to hide it beneath loose clothing. Then Victoria appeared. The entire room watched. Even the guests who had defended Victoria earlier looked uncomfortable. On the screen, Victoria stepped directly in front of Clara. The audio was clear. "You really thought you could hide this forever?" Clara stopped. "I don't know what you're talking about." Victoria smiled. That same cold smile everyone had seen tonight. "The baby." The hall became silent. Clara on the screen looked terrified. "Please..." Victoria moved closer. "Do you have any idea what people will say when they find out?" Clara lowered her eyes. "I never wanted to hurt anyone." "That is the problem," Victoria replied. "You think this is about what you want." The real Clara standing in the hall closed her eyes. She had heard those words before. Many times. Adrian watched the footage without blinking. Victoria noticed. She stepped forward. "Adrian, stop this." He did not look at her. "Continue." The footage continued. Victoria walked around Clara slowly. "You work in my house." Clara said nothing. "You eat because of my generosity." The words caused several guests to look away. "Do you understand what happens when people like you forget their position?" Clara's voice trembled. "I am not trying to take anything from you." Victoria laughed. "Not yet." The video showed Victoria reaching toward Clara's stomach. The entire room reacted. Some guests gasped. Adrian's eyes changed. For the first time that night, the calm mask cracked. He stepped closer to the screen. "Pause." The assistant immediately stopped the footage. The frozen image showed Victoria standing inches away from Clara. Her hand near the unborn child. Adrian looked at his wife. "What were you doing?" Victoria quickly answered. "I was just talking to her." "That is not what I asked." His voice became colder. "What were you doing?" Victoria opened her mouth. No words came. Because everyone had seen it. The fear. The threat. The way Clara had protected her stomach. Adrian turned back. "Continue." The video resumed. Victoria's voice echoed through the hall. "You need to leave this house before Adrian finds out." Clara shook her head. "I can't." "And why not?" "Because Mr. Vale deserves to know the truth." Victoria's face hardened. Then came the sentence that made everyone freeze. "You don't understand how this family works." Victoria leaned closer. "People like you don't become part of the Vale family." A pause. "People like you disappear." The video stopped. No one spoke. The silence was unbearable. Adrian slowly turned toward his wife. "Disappear?" Victoria immediately stepped forward. "That is not what I meant." "Then explain." "I was angry." "Explain." "I didn't mean anything by it." Adrian stared at her. "You threatened the mother of my child." Victoria's eyes filled with anger. "You are acting like she is innocent." Clara looked shocked. Adrian turned. "Why wouldn't she be?" Victoria laughed bitterly. "Because you don't know everything." The room shifted. Adrian narrowed his eyes. "What does that mean?" Victoria looked around. She realized she had lost control of the story. So she reached for the only weapon she had left. Doubt. "Ask her." Everyone looked at Clara. Clara immediately became nervous. Adrian noticed. "Clara?" She looked at him. "I..." Her voice disappeared. Victoria smiled slightly. "There it is." Adrian looked at his wife. "Enough." "No." Victoria shook her head. "You want the truth? Fine." She pointed toward Clara. "Ask her how she really met you." Adrian's expression changed. Because there was something in Victoria's voice. Something different. Not anger. Confidence. Like she had been waiting for this moment. "Clara," Adrian said quietly. "How did we meet?" The room waited. Clara looked down. Her hands tightened around Adrian's coat. "I was working at the hospital." Adrian nodded. "I know." Victoria interrupted. "But you don't know everything." Adrian looked at her. "Go on." Victoria took a breath. "She didn't just happen to be there." Clara's face became pale. "Victoria..." "No." Victoria smiled. "You wanted everyone to know the truth." She looked around the room. "So let them hear it." Adrian's eyes remained fixed on Clara. "Is there something you haven't told me?" Clara's eyes filled with tears. "I was going to tell you." "When?" She looked away. "I don't know." The answer hurt. Not because of betrayal. Because Adrian realized she had been carrying fear alone. Victoria stepped closer. "Tell him who you really are." Clara remained silent. "Tell him your real name." The room froze. Adrian frowned. "What?" Clara closed her eyes. A painful silence followed. Then she whispered: "My name is not Clara Bennett." The guests exchanged confused looks. Adrian stared. "What is your name?" She looked up. And for the first time, Adrian saw something he had never seen before. Not fear. Shame. "My name is Clara Whitmore." The name hit the room like a thunderclap. Several guests gasped. Because everyone in that room knew one thing. The Whitmore family. A powerful family. A family that had been enemies with the Vales for nearly twenty years. Adrian stepped back slightly. "You are a Whitmore?" Clara nodded. "I was." Victoria smiled. Now she believed she had won. "Interesting, isn't it?" She looked at Adrian. "The woman you brought into this house belongs to the family that destroyed yours." The mansion fell silent again. Adrian looked at Clara. The woman carrying his child. The woman he thought he knew. And suddenly, a new question appeared. Not why had Victoria hurt her. But why had Clara hidden her identity? And what was the real reason a Whitmore woman had entered the Vale mansion? Outside, thunder rolled over the city. Inside, the secret buried for years had finally surfaced. But nobody knew that Clara's hidden identity was only the first piece of a much bigger truth. A truth that would reveal who had really been manipulating the Vale family from the beginning. END OF CHAPTER 2 / Chapter 9 / 14

CHAPTER 10: THE FATHER WHO DISAPPEARED

CHAPTER 10: THE FATHER WHO DISAPPEARED

Nobody moved.

Nobody even breathed normally.

The voice that had filled the mansion moments earlier was impossible.

For twenty years, Adrian Vale had lived with one painful certainty.

His father was dead.

A grave existed.

A funeral had happened.

A family had mourned.

Adrian had forced himself to accept a world without Alexander Vale.

But now...

That world had cracked open.

Again.

The mansion had become a place where nothing was real.

Dead men returned.

Enemies became allies.

Family members became strangers.

And every truth seemed to have another secret hiding behind it.

Adrian slowly walked toward the security speakers.

"Father?"

His voice was barely audible.

Nothing answered.

Only static.

Then the speakers turned on again.

"Adrian."

The same voice.

Older.

More tired.

But unmistakable.

Adrian closed his eyes for a moment.

He had imagined this moment thousands of times.

He imagined what he would say if he ever saw his father again.

Anger.

Questions.

Pain.

But now that the moment had arrived...

He had no words.

"Where are you?"

Silence.

Then:

"Somewhere I should never have gone."

Adrian's hands tightened.

"What does that mean?"

The voice remained calm.

"It means I made a choice twenty years ago."

A pause.

"A choice that saved your life."

Everyone in the room listened.

Even Richard.

Even Eleanor.

Because nobody knew what would come next.

Adrian looked around.

"Show yourself."

His father's voice softened.

"Not yet."

Adrian's expression changed.

"Not yet?"

"You need to understand everything first."

A bitter smile appeared on Adrian's face.

"Everyone keeps saying that."

The silence that followed felt heavy.

Then Alexander spoke.

"I know."

Those two words affected Adrian more than he expected.

Because they sounded like his father.

Not the powerful businessman.

Not the legend.

Just his father.

The man who used to teach him how to ride a bicycle.

The man who held his hand when he was sick.

The man who disappeared.

"Why did you leave me?"

The question finally escaped.

Twenty years of pain hidden behind one sentence.

Nobody spoke.

Alexander's voice became quieter.

"Because if I stayed, you would have died."

Adrian froze.

"What?"

"Richard was not the only person involved."

Richard looked up.

Alexander continued.

"There was someone above him."

The room became tense.

"Someone who controlled everything."

Adrian looked at Richard.

Then Eleanor.

Then Lucas.

"Who?"

A long silence.

Then Alexander answered:

"The person closest to me."

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

"Who?"

Before Alexander could answer...

The speakers suddenly cut out.

Static.

Then nothing.

Adrian turned.

"Find the signal."

His security team immediately moved.

But Richard spoke.

"You won't find him."

Everyone looked at him.

Adrian walked toward him.

"You know where he is."

Richard remained silent.

"Don't play games."

Richard looked at Adrian.

"You think I wanted all of this?"

Adrian stared.

"Didn't you?"

Richard laughed quietly.

"I wanted power."

He admitted it.

"I wanted the company."

A pause.

"But I never wanted your father dead."

Nobody expected those words.

Especially Adrian.

Richard continued.

"The person who planned everything used me."

"Who?"

Richard looked toward Eleanor.

She immediately shook her head.

"No."

Adrian noticed.

Again.

Fear.

Not guilt.

Fear.

"Mother."

Eleanor closed her eyes.

"Adrian..."

"Tell me."

She looked broken.

"The person your father was afraid of..."

A pause.

"Was not Richard."

Everyone waited.

"Then who?"

Eleanor whispered:

"Your grandfather."

The room froze.

Adrian stared.

"My grandfather died before I was born."

Eleanor nodded.

"That is what everyone believed."

The silence became unbearable.

Lucas stepped forward.

"This family has spent generations hiding people."

He looked at Adrian.

"Maybe it's time you learn the truth."

Adrian turned toward him.

"What truth?"

Lucas looked at the old family portraits lining the hallway.

"The Vale family fortune was not created by your father."

Adrian frowned.

"What?"

"It started long before him."

Lucas continued.

"Your grandfather built the empire through secrets."

Eleanor interrupted.

"Enough."

Lucas ignored her.

"He destroyed competitors."

He looked at Adrian.

"He bought loyalty."

"Lucas."

"He created enemies."

The words echoed.

"And one of those enemies finally came back."

Adrian felt overwhelmed.

The family he had spent his life being proud of suddenly looked like a house built on buried bones.

Then Clara spoke.

"Adrian."

He turned.

She looked at the window.

"Someone is outside."

Everyone followed her gaze.

In the darkness beyond the glass...

A figure stood near the garden.

Watching the mansion.

Adrian immediately moved toward the window.

The figure stepped forward into the light.

An elderly man.

Carrying a cane.

Wearing a dark suit.

Adrian's blood ran cold.

Because he recognized the face from old photographs.

The man who was supposed to have died decades ago.

His grandfather.

Charles Vale.

But that was impossible.

Charles Vale had been dead for thirty years.

The old man looked directly at Adrian.

Then slowly removed his hat.

A smile appeared.

"Hello, grandson."

Nobody moved.

Adrian whispered:

"No..."

The old man stepped closer.

"I think it's time this family stopped lying."

A pause.

"Your father hid the truth from you."

His eyes moved toward Eleanor.

"Your mother protected it."

Then toward Richard.

"Your uncle exploited it."

Finally back to Adrian.

"But none of them told you the biggest secret."

The old man's smile faded.

"The Vale family was never attacked from the outside."

Thunder exploded outside.

The mansion shook.

Charles Vale spoke the final words:

"The destruction of this family..."

May you like

"Started with me."
