CHAPTER 2: THE FOOTAGE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING The massive screen above the fireplace flickered. For a moment, nobody moved. The guests who had arrived expecting a luxurious evening of champagne and meaningless conversations now stood frozen, watching a family collapse in real time. Victoria Vale stared at the screen. The confidence she had carried only minutes earlier had disappeared. Because she knew. Whatever was on that footage, it was something she could not explain away. Adrian remained standing in the center of the hall. His expression was unreadable. That was what frightened people most about him. When Adrian Vale was angry, he did not break things. He did not scream. He did not make empty threats. He simply made decisions. And once Adrian made a decision, there was no turning back. The security footage began. The video showed the hallway outside the servants' area. The timestamp appeared in the corner. Three weeks earlier. Clara was walking slowly, carrying a small box of medical supplies. She looked exhausted. Her pregnancy was beginning to show, though she had tried to hide it beneath loose clothing. Then Victoria appeared. The entire room watched. Even the guests who had defended Victoria earlier looked uncomfortable. On the screen, Victoria stepped directly in front of Clara. The audio was clear. "You really thought you could hide this forever?" Clara stopped. "I don't know what you're talking about." Victoria smiled. That same cold smile everyone had seen tonight. "The baby." The hall became silent. Clara on the screen looked terrified. "Please..." Victoria moved closer. "Do you have any idea what people will say when they find out?" Clara lowered her eyes. "I never wanted to hurt anyone." "That is the problem," Victoria replied. "You think this is about what you want." The real Clara standing in the hall closed her eyes. She had heard those words before. Many times. Adrian watched the footage without blinking. Victoria noticed. She stepped forward. "Adrian, stop this." He did not look at her. "Continue." The footage continued. Victoria walked around Clara slowly. "You work in my house." Clara said nothing. "You eat because of my generosity." The words caused several guests to look away. "Do you understand what happens when people like you forget their position?" Clara's voice trembled. "I am not trying to take anything from you." Victoria laughed. "Not yet." The video showed Victoria reaching toward Clara's stomach. The entire room reacted. Some guests gasped. Adrian's eyes changed. For the first time that night, the calm mask cracked. He stepped closer to the screen. "Pause." The assistant immediately stopped the footage. The frozen image showed Victoria standing inches away from Clara. Her hand near the unborn child. Adrian looked at his wife. "What were you doing?" Victoria quickly answered. "I was just talking to her." "That is not what I asked." His voice became colder. "What were you doing?" Victoria opened her mouth. No words came. Because everyone had seen it. The fear. The threat. The way Clara had protected her stomach. Adrian turned back. "Continue." The video resumed. Victoria's voice echoed through the hall. "You need to leave this house before Adrian finds out." Clara shook her head. "I can't." "And why not?" "Because Mr. Vale deserves to know the truth." Victoria's face hardened. Then came the sentence that made everyone freeze. "You don't understand how this family works." Victoria leaned closer. "People like you don't become part of the Vale family." A pause. "People like you disappear." The video stopped. No one spoke. The silence was unbearable. Adrian slowly turned toward his wife. "Disappear?" Victoria immediately stepped forward. "That is not what I meant." "Then explain." "I was angry." "Explain." "I didn't mean anything by it." Adrian stared at her. "You threatened the mother of my child." Victoria's eyes filled with anger. "You are acting like she is innocent." Clara looked shocked. Adrian turned. "Why wouldn't she be?" Victoria laughed bitterly. "Because you don't know everything." The room shifted. Adrian narrowed his eyes. "What does that mean?" Victoria looked around. She realized she had lost control of the story. So she reached for the only weapon she had left. Doubt. "Ask her." Everyone looked at Clara. Clara immediately became nervous. Adrian noticed. "Clara?" She looked at him. "I..." Her voice disappeared. Victoria smiled slightly. "There it is." Adrian looked at his wife. "Enough." "No." Victoria shook her head. "You want the truth? Fine." She pointed toward Clara. "Ask her how she really met you." Adrian's expression changed. Because there was something in Victoria's voice. Something different. Not anger. Confidence. Like she had been waiting for this moment. "Clara," Adrian said quietly. "How did we meet?" The room waited. Clara looked down. Her hands tightened around Adrian's coat. "I was working at the hospital." Adrian nodded. "I know." Victoria interrupted. "But you don't know everything." Adrian looked at her. "Go on." Victoria took a breath. "She didn't just happen to be there." Clara's face became pale. "Victoria..." "No." Victoria smiled. "You wanted everyone to know the truth." She looked around the room. "So let them hear it." Adrian's eyes remained fixed on Clara. "Is there something you haven't told me?" Clara's eyes filled with tears. "I was going to tell you." "When?" She looked away. "I don't know." The answer hurt. Not because of betrayal. Because Adrian realized she had been carrying fear alone. Victoria stepped closer. "Tell him who you really are." Clara remained silent. "Tell him your real name." The room froze. Adrian frowned. "What?" Clara closed her eyes. A painful silence followed. Then she whispered: "My name is not Clara Bennett." The guests exchanged confused looks. Adrian stared. "What is your name?" She looked up. And for the first time, Adrian saw something he had never seen before. Not fear. Shame. "My name is Clara Whitmore." The name hit the room like a thunderclap. Several guests gasped. Because everyone in that room knew one thing. The Whitmore family. A powerful family. A family that had been enemies with the Vales for nearly twenty years. Adrian stepped back slightly. "You are a Whitmore?" Clara nodded. "I was." Victoria smiled. Now she believed she had won. "Interesting, isn't it?" She looked at Adrian. "The woman you brought into this house belongs to the family that destroyed yours." The mansion fell silent again. Adrian looked at Clara. The woman carrying his child. The woman he thought he knew. And suddenly, a new question appeared. Not why had Victoria hurt her. But why had Clara hidden her identity? And what was the real reason a Whitmore woman had entered the Vale mansion? Outside, thunder rolled over the city. Inside, the secret buried for years had finally surfaced. But nobody knew that Clara's hidden identity was only the first piece of a much bigger truth. A truth that would reveal who had really been manipulating the Vale family from the beginning. END OF CHAPTER 2 / Chapter 6 / 14

CHAPTER 7: THE RETURN OF THE DEAD MAN

CHAPTER 7: THE RETURN OF THE DEAD MAN

The door opened slowly.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

For eight years, Richard Vale had existed only as a memory.

A name mentioned in whispers.

A ghost from a painful chapter of the Vale family history.

But now...

He was standing in front of them.

Alive.

Calm.

Almost unchanged.

Richard stepped into the old office wearing a dark coat, his silver hair neatly combed back. His face carried the same confident expression Adrian remembered from childhood.

The same smile.

The same eyes.

The same man who used to place a hand on Adrian's shoulder and tell him:

"One day, you'll become greater than your father."

Except now Adrian saw something he had never noticed before.

The warmth was gone.

Or maybe it had never existed.

"Uncle Richard."

Adrian's voice was empty.

Richard looked around the room.

At the hidden box.

At the documents.

At Clara.

Then finally at Eleanor.

A small smile appeared.

"Looks like the family reunion happened without me."

Nobody found the joke funny.

Adrian stepped forward.

"You are supposed to be dead."

Richard nodded.

"That was the idea."

"Who helped you disappear?"

Richard looked at Eleanor.

His smile widened.

"Interesting."

The room became tense.

Adrian noticed.

His mother looked afraid.

Not surprised.

Afraid.

"You know something."

Richard walked farther into the room.

"Your mother knows many things."

Eleanor's expression hardened.

"Richard, don't."

"Don't what?"

He laughed softly.

"Tell him the truth?"

Adrian looked between them.

"Enough."

His voice cut through the room.

"Twenty years of lies."

He pointed toward Richard.

"Start talking."

Richard studied him.

Then slowly sat down.

Almost like he owned the room.

"You really are your father's son."

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

"What does that mean?"

"It means you ask questions before understanding the game."

"The game?"

Richard leaned back.

"Your father was not the hero you think he was."

The words immediately changed the atmosphere.

Adrian became still.

Richard continued.

"Everyone wants a simple story."

He looked around.

"A good man. A bad man. A betrayal. A victim."

He shook his head.

"Life is not that clean."

Clara stepped closer to Adrian.

"Don't listen to him."

Richard looked at her.

"William Whitmore's daughter."

His smile disappeared.

"Of course."

Clara's face changed.

"You knew?"

"Everyone important knew."

Adrian turned.

"What does that mean?"

Richard looked at him.

"Your father knew exactly who she was."

The room froze.

Adrian looked at Clara.

She looked shocked.

"What?"

Richard smiled slightly.

"Yes."

He turned back to Adrian.

"Your father knew Clara's identity before you ever met her."

Adrian's expression darkened.

"Explain."

Richard stood.

"Because your father and William Whitmore were not enemies."

"We know that."

"No."

Richard shook his head.

"You don't know anything yet."

He walked toward the old desk.

"Your father and William were partners."

Adrian stared.

"They built Vale Industries together."

Eleanor closed her eyes.

Richard continued.

"But when the company became powerful, someone wanted control."

"Richard."

Eleanor's warning voice filled the room.

He ignored her.

"Your father discovered money was being stolen."

Adrian looked at him.

"By you."

Richard smiled.

"That's what they told you."

A pause.

Then Richard reached into his coat.

Everyone tensed.

But he pulled out a small envelope.

"I have proof."

Adrian did not move.

"What proof?"

Richard placed the envelope on the desk.

"Documents showing your father was planning to remove someone else."

Adrian picked it up.

Inside were several papers.

Financial records.

Emails.

Contracts.

And one name appeared repeatedly.

Eleanor Vale.

Adrian froze.

His mother.

"No."

Eleanor whispered.

Richard looked at her.

"Still protecting him?"

Adrian looked at his mother.

"What is this?"

She said nothing.

"Mother."

Her eyes filled with tears.

"Adrian..."

"Tell me."

Silence.

Then Richard spoke.

"Your mother was not just protecting your father."

He stepped closer.

"She was protecting herself."

The accusation hit hard.

Victoria watched silently.

Even she looked uncertain now.

Adrian turned the papers.

The documents showed money transfers.

Secret accounts.

But something was strange.

The dates.

The transactions happened after his father's death.

"These are fake."

Richard's expression changed slightly.

"Are they?"

Adrian looked up.

"My father died twenty years ago."

"Yes."

"So why are these transactions dated eight years later?"

For the first time, Richard became quiet.

A small crack appeared in his confidence.

Adrian noticed.

"You expected me not to check."

Richard looked away.

Only for a moment.

But it was enough.

Adrian stepped closer.

"You are lying."

Richard laughed.

"You always were stubborn."

"No."

Adrian held the documents.

"You came here because you needed something."

Richard's eyes sharpened.

"What?"

"You needed the box."

The room became silent.

Because Adrian was right.

Richard did not come to reveal the truth.

He came because something inside that box threatened him.

Richard smiled slowly.

"Smart."

Adrian's expression hardened.

"What is in this box that scares you?"

Nobody answered.

Then suddenly...

The lights went out.

The mansion fell into darkness.

Someone screamed.

A crash came from the hallway.

Adrian immediately grabbed Clara's hand.

"Stay behind me."

Emergency lights turned on.

Red light filled the room.

Then Adrian noticed something.

The metal box was gone.

The documents were gone.

Someone had taken them.

Richard was still standing there.

But he was no longer smiling.

Because he knew something had happened that he didn't expect.

A voice came from the security system.

A woman's voice.

Calm.

Cold.

"Adrian."

Everyone froze.

Because the voice did not belong to Eleanor.

Or Victoria.

Or anyone inside the room.

The voice continued:

"You spent your entire life searching for the person who destroyed your family."

A pause.

"You were looking in the wrong direction."

Adrian stared at the speakers.

"Who are you?"

The answer came.

And it changed everything.

"I am the person who saved your father."

A moment of silence.

Then:

"And the person who watched him die."

The security system went dead.

Adrian stood frozen.

Because somewhere inside the mansion...

A new enemy had appeared.

May you like

And this enemy knew every secret the Vale family had buried.
