Chapter 2: The Bride Behind the Veil The hallway became a battlefield of silence. Julian stood frozen between two impossible truths. Behind the basement door was a woman claiming to be Elena. In front of him stood another Elena. Both wearing the same voice. Both carrying the same name. And only one of them could be telling the truth. The woman at the end of the corridor slowly lifted her hand and touched the edge of her veil. “My love,” she whispered. Her voice was gentle. Too gentle. The kind of softness that felt carefully practiced. Julian stared at the dark liquid dripping from the bottom of her wedding dress. It wasn’t blood. Not exactly. It was thicker. Darker. Like ink mixed with something he didn’t want to understand. “Elena…” Julian whispered. The bride tilted her head. A small smile appeared beneath the veil. “Yes?” His fingers tightened around the basement door handle. “Who is inside?” For a moment, the mansion became completely silent. The distant music from the ballroom disappeared. The voices of the guests vanished. Even the old wooden walls seemed to stop creaking. Elena took one slow step forward. “You shouldn’t have come here.” Julian felt his stomach drop. That wasn’t an answer. “Who is inside?” Her smile faded. “Someone who wants to destroy us.” “Destroy us?” “Yes.” She walked closer. Her heels clicked against the marble floor. Each sound echoed through the hallway like a countdown. “She has been trying to ruin my life for years,” Elena said. “She knows how to manipulate people. She knows how to make herself look innocent.” Julian looked at the basement door. “But she sounds like you.” Elena stopped. Only a few feet separated them now. “That’s because she is my sister.” The words hit him harder than he expected. “Sister?” Elena slowly nodded. “A twin sister.” Julian said nothing. The pieces in his mind refused to connect. “Elena, you never told me you had a twin.” Her expression changed. For the first time, Julian saw something behind her eyes. Fear. Real fear. “I wanted to.” “Then why didn’t you?” “Because she is the reason I left my family ten years ago.” A cold wind moved through the hallway. The candles on the walls flickered. Julian looked back at the basement door. “Why is your sister locked down there?” Elena looked away. “She’s dangerous.” The answer came too quickly. Almost rehearsed. Julian noticed. “How dangerous?” Elena hesitated. “She killed someone.” The hallway seemed to shrink around him. “Who?” “My father.” Julian’s eyes widened. He had heard stories about Elena’s family. The mysterious old family who owned one of the oldest estates in the region. But she had never mentioned her father. Never mentioned any tragedy. Never mentioned a sister. “You told me your parents died in an accident.” “They did.” “No.” Julian stepped back. “You said they died together.” Elena’s face became unreadable. “They did.” “Then how did your sister kill your father?” For several seconds, neither of them spoke. Then Elena removed her veil. Slowly. Carefully. And Julian wished she hadn’t. Because underneath the beautiful face he knew so well… There was something broken. A scar ran from her temple down toward her cheek. A scar he had never seen before. “She did this to me.” Julian stared. “When?” “The night my family died.” The mansion lights suddenly flickered. Once. Twice. Then darkness swallowed the hallway. Julian heard Elena gasp. A second later, emergency lights turned on. The basement door was open. Julian turned. His blood ran cold. The lock that had refused to move moments ago was now hanging broken from the door. Someone had escaped. “Elena…” She looked toward the open basement. Her face drained of color. “No.” A whisper. Almost impossible to hear. “No, no, no…” Julian looked at her. “What?” She grabbed his arm. “We have to leave.” “Why?” “Because she is no longer trapped.” A sound came from behind them. A slow clap. Clap. Clap. Clap. Julian and Elena turned. A woman stood at the entrance of the hallway. She looked exactly like Elena. Same eyes. Same face. Same voice. But she wasn’t wearing a wedding dress. She wore a simple white hospital gown. Her wrists were covered with old scars. Her hair was messy. And her smile was terrifyingly calm. “After all these years…” The woman looked directly at Elena. “You still tell the same story.” Elena stepped in front of Julian. “Stay away from him.” The woman laughed softly. “Still pretending to protect people?” Julian looked between them. “Who are you?” The woman stared at him. Then smiled. “I’m Elena.” The real Elena shook her head. “Don’t listen to her.” The woman in the hospital gown walked closer. “She always does this.” “Does what?” “She steals my life.” Julian felt his chest tighten. “What?” The woman pointed at Elena’s wedding dress. “That dress belonged to me.” Silence. “The ring on her finger belonged to me.” She looked at Julian. “And you…” Her smile disappeared. “You were supposed to marry me.” Julian felt the ground disappear beneath his feet. “What are you talking about?” The woman looked at Elena. “Tell him.” Elena said nothing. “Tell him what happened before he came here.” Still nothing. The woman laughed. “That’s what I thought.” She turned toward Julian. “My name is Evelyn.” Julian stared. “Evelyn?” “Yes.” She touched her face. “The sister Elena erased.” Julian looked at Elena. The woman he loved. The woman he was about to marry. The woman who had promised him forever. “Is this true?” Elena’s lips trembled. “Julian…” “Is this true?” Her silence answered him. The mansion suddenly felt different. Not like a home. Not like a wedding venue. Like a cage. A cage built long before he arrived. Evelyn stepped closer. “She didn’t choose you because she loved you.” Julian looked at her. “Then why?” Evelyn’s eyes moved toward the basement. “Because you are the final piece.” Julian felt a chill crawl across his skin. “The final piece of what?” Evelyn smiled. “A promise our family made twenty years ago.” Elena suddenly screamed. “Stop!” But it was too late. Because from the basement below… Another sound echoed. A sound that froze everyone. A sound of chains. Then a voice. An old voice. A voice that should have been dead. “Bring him downstairs.” Julian stared toward the basement. “Who said that?” Neither sister answered. Because both of them looked terrified. And then Elena whispered: “My father.” Julian’s heart stopped. “Your father is dead.” Elena looked at him. “No.” Her voice cracked. “He was never dead.” The basement door slowly opened wider. Darkness waited below. And from inside the shadows… Something moved. Something that had been waiting for Julian to arrive. End of Chapter 2 / Chapter 7 / 8

Chapter 9: The Last Blood Oath

Chapter 9: The Last Blood Oath

The word echoed through the mansion.

Weapon.

Julian stood completely still.

A lifetime of questions had finally found answers.

And somehow…

The answers were worse than the mysteries.

His father was alive.

Victor was alive.

The wedding was a trap.

The family was built on cruelty.

And Julian himself…

Was the final piece of a plan created before he was even born.

“No.”

His voice was quiet.

But everyone heard it.

“No, I’m not your weapon.”

Daniel looked at him with unbearable sadness.

“I know.”

Julian turned toward him.

“Then why did you let this happen?”

His father looked down.

“Because I thought I could control the damage.”

Julian laughed bitterly.

“Everyone says that.”

He looked at Elena.

“I thought I could protect him.”

He looked at Evelyn.

“I thought I could survive.”

Then he looked at Victor.

“I thought I could create perfection.”

Julian shook his head.

“All of you thought you were saving something.”

His eyes hardened.

“But all you did was destroy people.”

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Then Victor appeared on the balcony above the basement.

Slow applause filled the room.

Slow.

Calm.

Almost proud.

“Excellent.”

Julian looked up.

Victor smiled.

“You finally understand.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Victor, stop this.”

Victor looked down.

“Still trying to play the hero?”

Daniel’s face tightened.

“You turned everything into a nightmare.”

“No.”

Victor looked around the mansion.

“I turned chaos into order.”

He pointed toward Julian.

“And now he will complete what we started.”

Julian shook his head.

“I won’t.”

Victor smiled.

“You already have.”

The room became silent.

“What?”

Victor walked down the stairs.

“You think the test began tonight?”

He looked at Julian.

“No.”

A pause.

“It began the moment you met Elena.”

Julian’s expression changed.

Victor continued.

“Every conversation.”

“Every argument.”

“Every moment you trusted her.”

“All of it was observed.”

Julian looked at Elena.

Her face collapsed.

“Is that true?”

She whispered:

“Not everything.”

“But some of it.”

She didn’t answer.

Again.

That silence.

That horrible silence.

Julian closed his eyes.

He felt something inside him breaking.

Not because Elena had lied.

Not only because of that.

But because he realized his entire life had been surrounded by people making choices for him.

His father.

Victor.

Elena.

Everyone.

Everyone except him.

Victor stepped closer.

“You spent your entire life believing you were ordinary.”

He smiled.

“But you were never ordinary.”

Julian looked at him.

“I’m not special.”

Victor shook his head.

“You are.”

“No.”

Julian’s voice became stronger.

“I’m the only person here who knows what normal looks like.”

That made Victor stop.

Julian continued.

“You all think pain makes people powerful.”

He looked at Evelyn.

“You think suffering creates loyalty.”

He looked at Elena.

“You think secrets are protection.”

He looked at Daniel.

“You think sacrifice justifies cruelty.”

Finally, he looked at Victor.

“But you’re all wrong.”

Victor’s expression darkened.

“Careful.”

Julian stepped forward.

“Pain doesn’t create strength.”

A pause.

“It creates wounds.”

The room was silent.

“And wounds don’t make people monsters.”

He looked at the family council.

“Choices do.”

The old woman from the council stepped forward.

“You sound confident for someone surrounded by enemies.”

Julian looked at her.

“Are they?”

She frowned.

“What?”

Julian looked around.

At Elena.

At Evelyn.

At Daniel.

“They spent their lives afraid of one man.”

His eyes returned to Victor.

“But fear only works when people believe they are alone.”

A strange sound came from above.

A door opening.

Then another.

Then another.

The family members who had been watching the ceremony began appearing.

But this time…

They weren’t silent.

They weren’t emotionless.

They were angry.

One by one, they stepped forward.

Victor looked confused.

“What is this?”

An older man from the council spoke.

“Enough.”

Victor stared.

“You dare?”

The man shook his head.

“For years, we believed you protected this family.”

He looked around.

“But all you protected was yourself.”

Victor’s face changed.

“You have no idea what you are doing.”

The man smiled sadly.

“No.”

He looked at Julian.

“We finally do.”

Victor turned toward Julian.

“You planned this.”

Julian shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at Daniel.

“My father did.”

Everyone turned.

Daniel stepped forward.

“I knew Victor would reveal himself if Julian refused the ritual.”

Victor’s eyes narrowed.

“You used your own son as bait?”

Daniel closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

A painful silence.

“But unlike you…”

Daniel looked at Julian.

“I gave him a choice.”

Victor laughed.

“You think choice makes you better?”

Daniel answered quietly:

“No.”

A pause.

“But it makes him free.”

Suddenly, the entire mansion shook.

A warning alarm started.

Victor looked upward.

“What did you do?”

Daniel looked at him.

“The truth is already leaving this house.”

Victor’s face changed.

“What?”

“The evidence.”

Daniel nodded toward Evelyn.

“The files.”

Victor looked at Evelyn with hatred.

“You.”

She smiled.

“I told you.”

She stepped forward.

“You built a prison.”

A pause.

“But you forgot prisons need walls.”

Her eyes hardened.

“And walls can fall.”

The mansion began filling with smoke.

Not from fire.

From the old security system.

The family panicked.

Julian looked at Victor.

“You planned everything.”

Victor stared at him.

“Yes.”

Julian shook his head.

“But you never planned one thing.”

Victor frowned.

“What?”

Julian looked at Elena.

Then Evelyn.

Then Daniel.

“The people you hurt would eventually stop being afraid.”

For the first time…

Victor Vale looked old.

Not powerful.

Not terrifying.

Just old.

A man who had spent his whole life building an empire and had finally realized his empire was empty.

But then…

Victor smiled.

And Julian knew something was wrong.

“You still don’t understand.”

Julian frowned.

“What?”

Victor looked toward the basement floor.

“The ritual was never about inheritance.”

The lights suddenly went out.

A hidden mechanism activated.

The floor beneath Julian opened.

He fell.

Elena screamed.

“JULIAN!”

Darkness swallowed him.

When he woke…

He was somewhere else.

A room beneath the mansion.

Older.

Deeper.

Covered with ancient symbols.

And on the wall in front of him was a message.

Written in his father’s handwriting.

“IF YOU ARE READING THIS, VICTOR HAS ALREADY LOST.”

Julian stepped closer.

Below the message was another sentence.

One that made his blood run cold.

“THE REAL SECRET OF THE VALE FAMILY IS NOT BLOOD.”

A pause.

Then:

“IT IS WHAT THEY CREATED.”

Behind him…

A door slowly opened.

And a voice whispered:

“Welcome back, Julian.”

He turned.

A woman stood there.

Someone he had never seen before.

But she had the same eyes as Elena.

And Evelyn.

She smiled.

May you like

“I’m your mother.”
