Chapter 2: The Bride Behind the Veil The hallway became a battlefield of silence. Julian stood frozen between two impossible truths. Behind the basement door was a woman claiming to be Elena. In front of him stood another Elena. Both wearing the same voice. Both carrying the same name. And only one of them could be telling the truth. The woman at the end of the corridor slowly lifted her hand and touched the edge of her veil. “My love,” she whispered. Her voice was gentle. Too gentle. The kind of softness that felt carefully practiced. Julian stared at the dark liquid dripping from the bottom of her wedding dress. It wasn’t blood. Not exactly. It was thicker. Darker. Like ink mixed with something he didn’t want to understand. “Elena…” Julian whispered. The bride tilted her head. A small smile appeared beneath the veil. “Yes?” His fingers tightened around the basement door handle. “Who is inside?” For a moment, the mansion became completely silent. The distant music from the ballroom disappeared. The voices of the guests vanished. Even the old wooden walls seemed to stop creaking. Elena took one slow step forward. “You shouldn’t have come here.” Julian felt his stomach drop. That wasn’t an answer. “Who is inside?” Her smile faded. “Someone who wants to destroy us.” “Destroy us?” “Yes.” She walked closer. Her heels clicked against the marble floor. Each sound echoed through the hallway like a countdown. “She has been trying to ruin my life for years,” Elena said. “She knows how to manipulate people. She knows how to make herself look innocent.” Julian looked at the basement door. “But she sounds like you.” Elena stopped. Only a few feet separated them now. “That’s because she is my sister.” The words hit him harder than he expected. “Sister?” Elena slowly nodded. “A twin sister.” Julian said nothing. The pieces in his mind refused to connect. “Elena, you never told me you had a twin.” Her expression changed. For the first time, Julian saw something behind her eyes. Fear. Real fear. “I wanted to.” “Then why didn’t you?” “Because she is the reason I left my family ten years ago.” A cold wind moved through the hallway. The candles on the walls flickered. Julian looked back at the basement door. “Why is your sister locked down there?” Elena looked away. “She’s dangerous.” The answer came too quickly. Almost rehearsed. Julian noticed. “How dangerous?” Elena hesitated. “She killed someone.” The hallway seemed to shrink around him. “Who?” “My father.” Julian’s eyes widened. He had heard stories about Elena’s family. The mysterious old family who owned one of the oldest estates in the region. But she had never mentioned her father. Never mentioned any tragedy. Never mentioned a sister. “You told me your parents died in an accident.” “They did.” “No.” Julian stepped back. “You said they died together.” Elena’s face became unreadable. “They did.” “Then how did your sister kill your father?” For several seconds, neither of them spoke. Then Elena removed her veil. Slowly. Carefully. And Julian wished she hadn’t. Because underneath the beautiful face he knew so well… There was something broken. A scar ran from her temple down toward her cheek. A scar he had never seen before. “She did this to me.” Julian stared. “When?” “The night my family died.” The mansion lights suddenly flickered. Once. Twice. Then darkness swallowed the hallway. Julian heard Elena gasp. A second later, emergency lights turned on. The basement door was open. Julian turned. His blood ran cold. The lock that had refused to move moments ago was now hanging broken from the door. Someone had escaped. “Elena…” She looked toward the open basement. Her face drained of color. “No.” A whisper. Almost impossible to hear. “No, no, no…” Julian looked at her. “What?” She grabbed his arm. “We have to leave.” “Why?” “Because she is no longer trapped.” A sound came from behind them. A slow clap. Clap. Clap. Clap. Julian and Elena turned. A woman stood at the entrance of the hallway. She looked exactly like Elena. Same eyes. Same face. Same voice. But she wasn’t wearing a wedding dress. She wore a simple white hospital gown. Her wrists were covered with old scars. Her hair was messy. And her smile was terrifyingly calm. “After all these years…” The woman looked directly at Elena. “You still tell the same story.” Elena stepped in front of Julian. “Stay away from him.” The woman laughed softly. “Still pretending to protect people?” Julian looked between them. “Who are you?” The woman stared at him. Then smiled. “I’m Elena.” The real Elena shook her head. “Don’t listen to her.” The woman in the hospital gown walked closer. “She always does this.” “Does what?” “She steals my life.” Julian felt his chest tighten. “What?” The woman pointed at Elena’s wedding dress. “That dress belonged to me.” Silence. “The ring on her finger belonged to me.” She looked at Julian. “And you…” Her smile disappeared. “You were supposed to marry me.” Julian felt the ground disappear beneath his feet. “What are you talking about?” The woman looked at Elena. “Tell him.” Elena said nothing. “Tell him what happened before he came here.” Still nothing. The woman laughed. “That’s what I thought.” She turned toward Julian. “My name is Evelyn.” Julian stared. “Evelyn?” “Yes.” She touched her face. “The sister Elena erased.” Julian looked at Elena. The woman he loved. The woman he was about to marry. The woman who had promised him forever. “Is this true?” Elena’s lips trembled. “Julian…” “Is this true?” Her silence answered him. The mansion suddenly felt different. Not like a home. Not like a wedding venue. Like a cage. A cage built long before he arrived. Evelyn stepped closer. “She didn’t choose you because she loved you.” Julian looked at her. “Then why?” Evelyn’s eyes moved toward the basement. “Because you are the final piece.” Julian felt a chill crawl across his skin. “The final piece of what?” Evelyn smiled. “A promise our family made twenty years ago.” Elena suddenly screamed. “Stop!” But it was too late. Because from the basement below… Another sound echoed. A sound that froze everyone. A sound of chains. Then a voice. An old voice. A voice that should have been dead. “Bring him downstairs.” Julian stared toward the basement. “Who said that?” Neither sister answered. Because both of them looked terrified. And then Elena whispered: “My father.” Julian’s heart stopped. “Your father is dead.” Elena looked at him. “No.” Her voice cracked. “He was never dead.” The basement door slowly opened wider. Darkness waited below. And from inside the shadows… Something moved. Something that had been waiting for Julian to arrive. End of Chapter 2 / Chapter 5 / 8

Chapter 7: The Escape From the House of Lies

Chapter 7: The Escape From the House of Lies

The silence after Julian’s declaration was more terrifying than any scream.

For years, Victor Vale had controlled every person who entered this mansion.

He controlled what they saw.

What they believed.

What they feared.

But he had never prepared for someone refusing to participate.

Julian stood outside the ritual circle.

Not chosen.

Not broken.

Not obedient.

And that made him more dangerous than any heir Victor had ever imagined.

The old woman from the family council stared at him.

“You don’t understand what you are rejecting.”

Julian looked at her.

“No.”

His voice was calm.

“I understand exactly.”

He pointed around the basement.

“This isn’t a family.”

His eyes moved to Victor.

“It’s a prison.”

Victor’s expression hardened.

“Careful.”

Julian smiled slightly.

“Is that supposed to scare me?”

A strange thing happened.

Victor became silent.

Because for the first time, fear had changed sides.

The man who had spent decades terrifying others was now facing someone who had nothing left to lose.

“You think you can walk away?” Victor asked.

Julian looked toward the locked doors.

“I think everyone in this room has been waiting for someone to try.”

The family council members exchanged nervous looks.

Victor noticed.

His voice became colder.

“Do not forget who gave you life.”

Julian turned.

“You didn’t.”

The words struck harder than an attack.

“You stole my life.”

Victor’s face darkened.

“You are alive because of me.”

“No.”

Julian shook his head.

“I am alive despite you.”

A sudden crash came from above.

Everyone looked up.

The mansion shook.

Then the lights flickered.

Once.

Twice.

The security system began screaming.

Victor turned sharply.

“What happened?”

A family member rushed toward him.

“Sir, the cameras are offline.”

Victor’s eyes narrowed.

“How?”

The man hesitated.

“We don’t know.”

Then Evelyn smiled.

Everyone turned toward her.

Victor stared.

“You.”

She shrugged.

“I spent ten years locked in your basement.”

Her expression became cold.

“I learned a few things.”

Victor walked toward her.

“You think this is clever?”

“No.”

Evelyn looked around.

“This is freedom.”

Victor grabbed her arm.

Julian moved instantly.

“Let go.”

Victor looked at him.

“You still think you are the hero?”

Julian stepped closer.

“No.”

His voice lowered.

“I know I’m the person who is going to stop you.”

Before Victor could respond, Elena moved.

She grabbed a metal object from the table and struck the emergency control panel.

The basement doors unlocked.

Everyone froze.

Julian looked at her.

“Elena…”

She looked at him with tears in her eyes.

“I should have done this years ago.”

The alarm became louder.

The family council members began panicking.

For the first time, the perfect order of the Vale family collapsed.

Victor stared at Elena.

“You betray me?”

She looked at him.

“No.”

Her voice trembled.

“I finally stop obeying you.”

That sentence seemed to hurt him more than anything else.

Because Victor could handle hatred.

He could handle rebellion.

But he couldn’t handle losing control.

“Get them!”

Victor shouted.

The family members moved.

But Julian, Evelyn, and Elena were already running.

They escaped through the basement corridor.

A narrow passage hidden behind the walls.

The mansion above them felt completely different now.

Not like a beautiful estate.

Like the inside of a machine.

A machine designed to trap people.

They ran through the darkness.

Julian followed Evelyn.

“You knew about the escape route?”

“Yes.”

“How?”

Evelyn looked ahead.

“Because I built it.”

Julian stopped for a moment.

“You built it?”

She nodded.

“When I was trapped down there, I memorized every sound.”

Her voice became quieter.

“Every guard.

Every door.

Every weakness.”

Elena ran beside them.

“You were planning to escape.”

Evelyn looked at her.

“For ten years.”

A painful silence followed.

Julian noticed the way they looked at each other.

Two sisters.

Two survivors.

Both carrying wounds from the same monster.

They reached a large underground room.

Inside were boxes.

Documents.

Hard drives.

Photographs.

Everything Victor had hidden.

Evelyn opened one box.

“This is what we need.”

Julian looked inside.

“What is it?”

“Proof.”

“Proof of what?”

“Everything.”

She held up documents.

Financial records.

Medical reports.

Names.

Dates.

Victims.

“Victor didn’t just destroy us.”

Evelyn’s eyes hardened.

“He destroyed dozens of people.”

Elena looked at the files.

“He covered everything.”

“Yes.”

Julian picked up a folder.

Inside was a familiar name.

DANIEL HART

His hands shook.

“What is this?”

Evelyn looked at him.

“Your father’s file.”

Julian opened it.

The first page made his heart stop.

SUBJECT: DANIEL HART
STATUS: ALIVE

Alive.

The word felt impossible.

His father was alive.

He quickly turned the page.

There was a photograph.

A prison room.

A man sitting inside.

Older.

Weaker.

But unmistakably him.

Julian’s breathing stopped.

“My father…”

Elena touched his shoulder.

“Julian…”

He ignored everything else.

“When?”

Evelyn looked at the file.

“The last update was six months ago.”

“Where?”

Before she could answer, a voice came from behind them.

“You always were stubborn, Daniel.”

Everyone froze.

Slowly…

They turned.

Victor stood at the entrance.

But he wasn’t alone.

Behind him were armed guards.

The escape was over.

Victor looked at Julian.

“You really thought I wouldn’t know about this room?”

Julian said nothing.

Victor smiled.

“This entire mansion belongs to me.”

He stepped closer.

“You were born into my game.”

Julian held the folder tighter.

“You’re wrong.”

Victor raised an eyebrow.

“I am?”

“Yes.”

Julian looked at the evidence.

“At some point, every game ends.”

Victor laughed.

“And what happens then?”

Julian stared directly into his eyes.

“The player loses.”

A sudden sound echoed through the mansion.

Sirens.

Police sirens.

Everyone froze.

Victor’s smile disappeared.

One of the guards checked his phone.

“Sir…”

His voice shook.

“The files were uploaded.”

Victor turned slowly.

“What?”

Julian looked at him.

“You weren’t the only one who knew how to use technology.”

Evelyn smiled.

“The evidence is already everywhere.”

Victor’s face changed.

For the first time…

The walls of his empire began collapsing.

But then Victor did something unexpected.

He smiled.

Not a fake smile.

A genuine one.

And that terrified Julian.

“Very clever.”

Victor stepped back.

“But you made one mistake.”

Julian frowned.

“What?”

Victor looked at Elena.

Then Evelyn.

“You believed the truth would save you.”

The mansion lights suddenly went out.

A gunshot echoed.

Everyone screamed.

When the emergency lights returned…

Victor was gone.

And Elena was lying on the floor.

Blood spreading across her wedding dress.

Julian rushed toward her.

“Elena!”

Her eyes slowly opened.

She whispered one sentence.

“Julian…”

He held her hand.

“What?”

Her lips trembled.

“Your father…”

A pause.

“He wasn’t Victor’s prisoner.”

Julian froze.

“What are you saying?”

Elena looked terrified.

“He was helping him.”

The room went silent.

And then she whispered the words that shattered everything.

May you like

“Your father was the first architect of this nightmare.”
