Chapter 10: The Man Behind The Entire Conspiracy

Chapter 10: The Man Behind The Entire Conspiracy

The name echoed inside Alexander Sterling's mind.

Marcus Blackwood.

For several seconds, he simply stood there.

Unable to speak.

Unable to move.

Because unlike Adrian Vale...

Unlike Daniel Sterling...

Unlike Richard Ashford...

Marcus Blackwood was not a stranger from the past.

He was a shadow that had always been there.

A man who had stood beside the Sterling family for decades.

A man who attended their dinners.

A man who advised his grandfather.

A man who watched Alexander grow up.

A man Alexander once called:

"Uncle Marcus."

And now...

That same man was the center of the mystery.

The Man Everyone Trusted

Marcus Blackwood had never been the loudest person in the room.

That was exactly why people trusted him.

Powerful people often surrounded themselves with those who wanted attention.

Marcus was different.

He stayed behind the scenes.

He gave advice.

He solved problems.

He cleaned up disasters before the world even noticed they existed.

When Alexander was young, Marcus was always there.

When his father was busy, Marcus taught him about business.

When Alexander lost his first company project, Marcus was the person who encouraged him.

"You cannot control every storm," Marcus once told him.

"But you can learn how to sail."

Alexander remembered those words.

Now they felt different.

Almost like a trap.

Because the most dangerous lies were not the ones told by enemies.

They were the ones delivered by people who earned your trust first.

The Search For Marcus Blackwood

The next morning, Alexander ordered a complete investigation.

Every record.

Every transaction.

Every communication.

Every meeting Marcus had attended over thirty years.

The Sterling intelligence team worked through the night.

By sunrise, they discovered something disturbing.

Marcus Blackwood had no obvious wealth.

No private companies.

No public investments.

No luxury properties.

Nothing.

A man who had advised billionaires for decades somehow owned almost nothing.

Alexander stared at the report.

"That makes no sense."

One investigator nodded.

"Exactly."

Alexander looked up.

"Explain."

"People like Marcus usually leave traces."

The investigator placed another file on the table.

"But he doesn't."

Alexander opened it.

The more he read...

The more uncomfortable he became.

Marcus had erased himself.

Every few years, his records changed.

Different addresses.

Different bank accounts.

Different identities.

Not enough to be obvious.

Just enough to disappear.

"He's been preparing."

Alexander whispered.

The Hidden Room

At Sterling Mansion, Eleanor watched Alexander work.

She could see the anger growing.

Not explosive anger.

Something colder.

Something more dangerous.

"Alexander."

He didn't look up.

"Yes?"

"Be careful."

He smiled slightly.

"Everyone keeps telling me that."

"Because everyone knows Marcus."

Alexander stopped.

"You knew?"

Eleanor nodded.

"I suspected."

"How long?"

"Since your father died."

Alexander looked at her.

"And you still allowed him near the family?"

Her expression changed.

"I didn't know how deep it went."

A pause.

"But I knew he was hiding something."

Alexander stood.

"You knew he might be involved."

"I knew he was connected."

"That's enough."

Eleanor lowered her eyes.

"You're right."

The admission surprised him.

His mother rarely admitted mistakes.

"I was wrong."

Silence.

"I thought keeping enemies close would protect us."

She looked at him.

"I forgot that sometimes the enemy learns your house better than you do."

The First Confrontation

That afternoon, Alexander found Marcus.

Not through investigation.

Not through tracking.

Marcus contacted him first.

A message appeared.

"We need to talk."

A location followed.

The old Sterling family library.

The same place where Marcus used to teach Alexander chess.

Alexander arrived alone.

Marcus was already there.

Standing beside the bookshelf.

Older now.

But calm.

Almost peaceful.

"You found out."

Alexander closed the door.

"Did you expect me not to?"

Marcus smiled.

"I expected you eventually would."

The answer was unsettling.

"You knew."

"Yes."

"About Adrian?"

"Yes."

"About Daniel?"

"Yes."

Alexander stepped closer.

"And my father's death?"

The smile disappeared.

For the first time...

Marcus looked tired.

"I knew something would happen."

Alexander's eyes sharpened.

"What does that mean?"

Marcus walked toward the table.

"Twenty years ago, everyone thought Adrian Vale was the mastermind."

He placed a hand on an old chessboard.

"But Adrian was only a piece."

Alexander froze.

"A piece?"

Marcus nodded.

"The real game was much bigger."

The Chessboard

Marcus moved a chess piece.

"Your grandfather built an empire."

Another move.

"Adrian wanted it."

Another move.

"Daniel wanted justice."

Another move.

"Richard wanted power."

He looked at Alexander.

"And I wanted control."

Silence.

Alexander stared.

"You admit it?"

Marcus smiled faintly.

"Why would I lie now?"

His calmness was disturbing.

"You spent your whole life thinking business was about money."

Marcus continued.

"But money is only the surface."

He touched the chessboard.

"Power is about controlling choices."

Alexander's face hardened.

"You destroyed lives."

Marcus shook his head.

"No."

A pause.

"I revealed what was already broken."

Alexander stepped closer.

"My father trusted you."

Marcus looked down.

"Yes."

"And you betrayed him."

A long silence.

Then Marcus said:

"Your father was the only person who ever made me feel like I belonged."

That answer confused Alexander.

"Then why?"

Marcus looked toward the window.

"Because your father had everything I never had."

"Money?"

"No."

Marcus shook his head.

"Love."

The Real Reason

Alexander listened.

Marcus continued.

"I grew up watching powerful families."

A pause.

"They always say blood matters."

He smiled bitterly.

"But when things become difficult, blood becomes negotiable."

Alexander remained silent.

"Your grandfather rejected Daniel."

"Your family rejected me."

Alexander frowned.

"You were not family."

Marcus looked at him.

"Exactly."

The word carried pain.

"I spent my entire life building the empire beside you."

A pause.

"But when people looked at Sterling..."

"They saw your name."

"Not mine."

Alexander understood.

Marcus had not wanted money.

He wanted recognition.

He wanted his name written on the walls of the palace.

The Hidden Confession

"Did you kill my father?"

The question finally arrived.

Marcus became silent.

For the first time...

He looked away.

Alexander noticed.

That hesitation.

That tiny moment.

It told him more than words.

"Answer me."

Marcus slowly turned back.

"No."

Alexander narrowed his eyes.

"You're lying."

Marcus sighed.

"I did not order his death."

A pause.

"But I knew Adrian was planning something."

The room became silent.

"You knew?"

"Yes."

"And you did nothing?"

Marcus looked at him.

"I thought your father would survive."

Alexander felt anger rising.

"You gambled with his life."

Marcus said nothing.

Because there was no defense.

The Final Piece

Before Alexander left, Marcus called him back.

"There is something else you should know."

Alexander stopped.

Marcus opened a drawer.

Inside was an old photograph.

A picture of Alexander's father.

Adrian.

Richard.

Daniel.

And Marcus.

But behind them...

Standing in the shadows...

Was another person.

Alexander looked closer.

His blood ran cold.

Because he recognized the face.

Someone who should not have been there.

Someone connected to the beginning of everything.

"Who is that?"

Marcus looked at the photograph.

"The person who started the entire war."

Alexander stared.

"Who?"

Marcus answered:

"The man your grandfather trusted before anyone else."

A pause.

"The man who trained Adrian."

Alexander's eyes narrowed.

"What is his name?"

Marcus looked directly at him.

"Victor Crowe."

The New Enemy

That night, Alexander searched the name.

Victor Crowe.

The results were almost empty.

Almost.

Until one hidden record appeared.

A classified document.

A single line.

Victor Crowe: Former strategic advisor. Presumed dead 22 years ago.

Alexander leaned back.

Another dead man.

Another ghost.

Another secret.

But then he noticed something.

The file had been accessed recently.

Today.

By someone inside Sterling International.

Alexander stared at the screen.

Because the enemy was no longer hiding.

They wanted him to find them.

And then his phone rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

A man's voice spoke.

Older.

Calm.

Confident.

"Alexander Sterling."

Alexander said nothing.

The voice continued.

"You spent twenty years searching for the truth."

A pause.

"Now I will show you why your father deserved to die."

Alexander's eyes turned cold.

"Who is this?"

The man laughed softly.

"You already know."

The call ended.

The screen displayed the caller's identity.

May you like

One name.

Victor Crowe.
