Chapter 14 - The Truth About Charlotte ValeFor several seconds, nobody moved.

My mother looked at me.

“I didn't kill her because I hated her.”

My hands shook.

“Then why?”

“Because she knew what the Circle was doing.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“She tried to expose them.”

My mother continued.

“I thought I was saving people.”

“You murdered my mother.”

“Yes.”

The word destroyed me.

I walked away.

For years, I had believed my life was built on tragedy.

My mother's death.

My father's disappearance.

My sister's kidnapping.

The stolen inheritance.

But the truth was worse.

The person who raised me had killed the woman who gave birth to me.

And then spent my entire life hiding it.

Amelia found me outside the hotel.

She didn't speak.

She simply stood beside me.

After a long silence, I asked:

“Why did she adopt me?”

“Because she couldn't bear to leave you.”

“She destroyed my family.”

“She also saved your life.”

I looked at her.

“She loved you.”

I closed my eyes.

Love didn't erase murder.

But hatred didn't erase love either.

That was the cruelest part.

The Solmere had survived.

The Meridian Circle was falling.

Samuel was imprisoned.

Victoria was cooperating with prosecutors.

Richard had resigned from the board.

But my family was shattered.

The board asked me to take control of the company.

I accepted.

Not because I wanted the money.

Because I wanted to rebuild what had been corrupted.

My first act was to release the entire historical archive to investigators.

No secrets.

No hidden accounts.

No private empires.

Then I opened the Solmere doors to the public.

For the first time, everyone could see what had happened inside those marble walls.

The lobby where I had been dragged across the floor became a symbol.

Photographers stood there.

Journalists.

Former employees.

Guests.

People who had watched me suffer.

One year later, I stood in the center of the lobby again.

This time I wore a black suit.

No disguise.

No fear.

A young employee approached me.

“Miss Vale?”

“Yes?”

“She asked me to give you this.”

He handed me an envelope.

No return address.

Inside was a photograph.

My mother.

Daniel.

Richard.

Samuel.

And another man.

A man I had never seen.

On the back were four words.

YOU NEVER FOUND THE ARCHITECT.

My heart stopped.

I turned the photo over again.

There was a final line.

HE'S STILL INSIDE THE SOLMERE.

I looked around the lobby.

The chandeliers glowed.

Guests laughed.

Music played.

Everything looked normal.

But I knew better.

Someone had survived.

Someone had remained hidden.

May you like

And whoever they were…

they had been waiting.
