Chapter 12 - The TrapBy midnight, my face was everywhere.

News channels claimed Charlotte Vale had resurfaced after years of hiding.
They accused me of fraud.
Money laundering.
Embezzlement.
The Solmere stock price collapsed.
Bank accounts were frozen.
The police announced an investigation.
Samuel had built the perfect trap.
I wasn't the heir anymore.
I was the suspect.
My mother stared at the television.
“He moved faster than I expected.”
Daniel looked at me.
“We need to get out.”
“No.”
I stood.
“We need to go public.”
“With what?”
I pointed to the server.
“Everything.”
We uploaded the ledger.
At first, nothing happened.
Then one by one, documents spread across the internet.
Names.
Transfers.
Contracts.
Videos.
The Meridian Circle was exposed.
News stations began broadcasting the evidence.
Politicians denied knowing anything.
Bank executives resigned.
Police officials disappeared.
Samuel's empire started collapsing.
Then a message appeared on the screen.
YOU THINK THIS IS OVER?
A live video began.
Samuel stood in front of the Solmere lobby.
Behind him were hostages.
Dozens of hotel employees.
Guests.
Security guards.
Victoria.
Samuel looked directly into the camera.
“Charlotte.”
I stepped closer.
“Let them go.”
“You already destroyed everything.”
“No.”
He smiled.
“You did.”
He revealed the final part of his plan.
The Solmere's emergency system had been rigged.
At midnight, the entire hotel would explode.
Unless I came alone.
My mother grabbed my arm.
“No.”
I looked at her.
“Mom.”
“You're not going.”
“I have to.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“I'll come.”
“No.”
“You'll die.”
“Maybe.”
I held the ownership papers.
“But if I go, I can stop him.”
My mother's eyes filled with tears.
“You've already spent your whole life being used by people who call it protection.”
I hugged her.
“This time, I'm choosing.”
I entered the hotel alone.
The lobby was empty.
Every chandelier was dark.
The marble floor still carried faint stains from the day Victoria dragged me across it.
I walked to the center.
“Samuel!”
His voice came over the speakers.
“You came.”
“Release them.”
“You still think you're in control.”
I looked around.
“No.”
Then I smiled.
“You're the one who doesn't understand.”
The lights came on.
Every screen activated.
The hotel was broadcasting my mother's hidden archive.
Every secret.
Every name.
Every recording.
Samuel appeared on the balcony.
“You're bluffing.”
“No.”
I held up the original ledger.
“The real one was never underground.”
His face changed.
I pointed toward the cameras.
“It was copied before your people ever arrived.”
Samuel stepped backward.
Security doors opened.
Police flooded the lobby.
News crews followed.
Samuel was surrounded.
He stared at me.
“How?”
I smiled.
“Because you spent so much time trying to erase me…”
I stepped closer.
“…you forgot to notice I was watching you.”
He laughed.
Then pulled a gun.
Everything stopped.
May you like
He aimed at my mother.
Bang.
