Chapter 10 - Sadie stepped backward.Dominic didn't move.

“What did you do?”
“Nothing.”
“You just said she was right.”
“Because I lied to you.”
“About what?”
“Almost everything.”
Marcus raised his gun.
“You're finally admitting it.”
Dominic looked at him.
“I never said I was innocent.”
Sadie felt the room spinning.
“Then tell me.”
Dominic looked at the floor.
“I knew your mother was alive.”
Sadie's face went pale.
“How long?”
“Seven years.”
“You knew?”
“Yes.”
“Why didn't you tell me?”
“Because I was protecting you.”
“From what?”
“From her.”
Elena stepped forward.
“Dominic.”
He silenced her with a look.
Sadie shook her head.
“My mother wasn't the enemy.”
“She wasn't your mother.”
Sadie froze.
“What?”
Dominic reached into his pocket.
He took out a DNA report.
“Your mother was dead before you were born.”
Sadie stared at the paper.
“This is a lie.”
“No.”
“Then who raised me?”
Dominic's voice softened.
“A woman named Clara Bennett.”
“My mother.”
“She raised you.”
“You said she wasn't my mother.”
“She wasn't biologically.”
Sadie felt hollow.
“Then who was?”
Dominic handed her a photograph.
A woman with Sadie's eyes.
Her face looked exactly like hers.
“Her name was Elena Bennett.”
Sadie looked at Elena Voss.
The resemblance was unmistakable.
“No.”
Elena's eyes filled with tears.
“Yes.”
Sadie stared.
“You?”
Elena nodded.
“I gave birth to you.”
The room became silent.
Marcus looked away.
Sadie whispered:
“You're my mother.”
“Yes.”
“Why did you abandon me?”
“I didn't.”
“You let another woman raise me!”
“To save you.”
“From what?”
Elena looked at Marcus.
“From him.”
Marcus's jaw tightened.
“I was twelve.”
“You were already being trained.”
“I was protecting myself.”
“You were becoming what they wanted.”
Sadie looked between them.
“What did they want?”
Elena said:
“They wanted an heir.”
“To what?”
“Everything.”
The door behind them opened.
Everyone turned.
A man entered.
He was older than Marcus.
Older than Dominic.
He wore a perfectly tailored suit.
A silver cane tapped against the floor.
He smiled.
“My family has been looking for all of you.”
Dominic raised his gun.
The man laughed.
“You won't shoot.”
“Why?”
“Because I know what happens if I die.”
He looked at Sadie.
“The city burns.”
Dominic's expression tightened.
“Who are you?”
The man smiled.
“Thomas Voss.”
Marcus stared.
“My father.”
Thomas nodded.
“Hello, son.”
Marcus raised his gun.
“You died.”
“I allowed you to believe that.”
Thomas looked at Sadie.
“And you.”
Sadie stood frozen.
Thomas smiled.
“You were supposed to inherit my empire.”
She shook her head.
“No.”
Thomas stepped closer.
“Before you were stolen.”
Dominic fired.
The bullet hit Thomas's cane.
Thomas didn't flinch.
He looked at Dominic.
“You still haven't learned.”
Then the walls behind them opened.
Armed men poured into the room.
May you like
Thomas smiled.
“Family reunion.”
