Chapter 14 - The Bullet That Changed EverythingThe gunshot echoed through the mansion.

Ava screamed.
Isabella dropped to the floor.
But there was no blood.
No pain.
The bullet had struck the wall behind her.
Nathan had deliberately missed.
Ethan stared.
For one second, nobody moved.
Then Nathan shouted,
“NOW!”
Marcus and the security team burst through the windows.
Lights exploded.
Alarms screamed.
Ethan's men scattered.
Victoria rushed toward Ava.
Isabella grabbed her daughter.
“Are you hurt?”
Ava shook her head.
“I'm scared.”
“I know.”
Nathan ran toward them.
Isabella pushed him away.
“You lied to me.”
“I had to.”
“You pointed a gun at me.”
“To convince Ethan.”
“You could have warned me.”
“If I warned you, Bellwether would have flagged the operation.”
Isabella froze.
Nathan took out the key card.
“Bellwether has a facial-recognition system.”
“It tracks everyone.”
“I needed Ethan to believe you were alone.”
“You used yourself as the trigger.”
Nathan nodded.
“The recording in the vault was real.”
He looked at Isabella.
“I did tell Ethan I'd bring you.”
Isabella's face fell.
“But I never agreed to give him the real ledger.”
He opened his jacket.
The real ledger was inside.
Isabella stared.
“You had it.”
“Yes.”
“The one in the vault was fake.”
“Yes.”
“And the gun?”
“Blank cartridge.”
Ethan shouted from across the room.
“You think this changes anything?”
Everyone turned.
Ethan stood near the balcony.
He held a device.
A detonator.
“Bellwether has already uploaded everything.”
Nathan's expression changed.
Ethan smiled.
“Every account.”
“Every name.”
“Every secret.”
“If I die, it all goes public.”
Marcus stepped forward.
“You're bluffing.”
“No.”
Ethan pressed a button.
The mansion screens activated.
Thousands of files appeared.
Bank transfers.
Secret meetings.
Bribes.
Blackmail records.
Corrupt officials.
Corporate fraud.
Everything.
The room fell silent.
Isabella stared.
This was what her father had spent years building.
Not a fortune.
A weapon.
Ethan laughed.
“Do you know what happens when those files become public?”
Nathan answered,
“Eclipse burns.”
Ethan smiled.
“So does everyone who touched it.”
He turned toward Isabella.
“Your father believed truth would set people free.”
“He was wrong.”
“Truth destroys everyone.”
Isabella looked at the screen.
Among the files was one folder:
MOTHER
She clicked it.
A video appeared.
Her mother.
Alive.
Three days after the fire.
Sitting in a basement.
Holding the ledger.
Isabella began crying.
Her mother's voice played.
“If you're watching this, then Ethan failed.”
Ethan's face changed.
The video continued.
“I need you to know why I trusted him.”
“Because Ethan wasn't born cruel.”
“He became cruel when he discovered what our father had done.”
Her mother revealed the greatest secret.
Eclipse had never been built to steal money.
It had been created to expose corruption.
But over the years, its leaders turned it into the very thing it was meant to destroy.
Ethan took control.
Her father tried to stop him.
Nathan's father joined him.
And the Blackwoods became the shield protecting Eclipse.
Then came the final revelation.
Isabella's mother looked directly into the camera.
“Your father asked me to hide the ledger.”
“I refused.”
“Because I knew it was too dangerous.”
“So I split the evidence.”
“Part went into the trust.”
“Part went into the ring.”
“The final piece went into your child.”
Isabella froze.
Ava stared at her.
“My child?”
Her mother smiled sadly.
“The Hart bloodline carries an encrypted genetic marker.”
“It cannot control the ledger.”
“It can only reveal it.”
Isabella understood.
Her daughter wasn't a weapon.
She was proof.
Eclipse couldn't destroy the evidence without exposing itself.
The final genetic marker was the missing authentication.
Ethan realized what Isabella had figured out.
“No.”
He raised the detonator.
Nathan tackled him.
They crashed into the floor.
The device slid away.
Marcus grabbed it.
Ethan screamed.
“Stop!”
Victoria picked up the fake ledger.
She threw it into the fireplace.
“This family ends tonight.”
Ethan laughed.
“You think burning paper changes anything?”
Victoria stared at him.
“No.”
She looked at the screens.
“The files are already copied.”
Ethan stopped.
Marcus held up a phone.
“The entire Bellwether database has been downloaded.”
Police sirens approached.
Outside, helicopters filled the sky.
Ethan slowly looked at Isabella.
“You think you won.”
She shook her head.
“No.”
“I think the truth finally has a chance.”
Ethan smiled.
“Then ask your husband the final question.”
Isabella turned to Nathan.
“What question?”
Ethan whispered,
“Who ordered your mother's murder?”
Nathan closed his eyes.
Isabella stared at him.
Nathan said nothing.
Ethan laughed.
Then the mansion lights died.
A gunshot came from upstairs.
When the lights returned...
May you like
Ethan was dead.
And Nathan was holding the gun.
