Chapter 14 - THE FINAL ROOMThey returned to the abandoned chapel.

Arthur carried the ledger.
Mason, despite his injury, refused to stay behind.
Claire and the twins followed.
No police backup.
No lights.
No sirens.
The chapel was empty.
Then the doors slammed shut.
Daniel's voice filled the building.
“You brought all of them.”
Arthur shouted:
“Show yourself!”
“Walk to the altar.”
They did.
A hidden panel opened beneath the floor.
A staircase descended.
Mason frowned.
“This wasn't on the architectural plans.”
Claire whispered:
“Your father built it.”
They entered.
At the bottom was a room unlike anything else beneath the mansion.
Walls covered in photographs.
One photograph showed Claire.
Another showed Victoria.
Another showed Elena.
Another showed Evelyn.
And in the center was a portrait of Arthur's father.
Beneath it:
THE FAMILY MUST SURVIVE.
Daniel stepped from the shadows.
He held a detonator.
“If I can't own this family, no one will.”
Arthur stepped forward.
“You killed Thomas.”
“Yes.”
“Victoria?”
“I didn't pull the trigger.”
“Who did?”
Daniel smiled.
“Ask Claire.”
Everyone looked at Claire.
She stood still.
Daniel laughed.
“She has always been good at hiding the truth.”
Claire's face went pale.
“What are you talking about?”
“You shot Victoria.”
Elena stared at her mother.
“No.”
Claire shook her head.
“I didn't.”
Daniel pressed the detonator.
Nothing happened.
Mason realized the batteries had been removed.
He lunged.
Daniel fired.
The bullet missed.
Chaos exploded.
Evelyn tackled Daniel.
Arthur grabbed Leo.
Elena ran toward the wall.
A hidden door opened.
Inside was another chamber.
And there was the final secret.
A safe.
Inside sat old birth records.
A final will.
And a videotape.
Elena pressed play.
Arthur's father's voice filled the room.
“If you're watching this, then my family has failed.”
He confessed everything.
The laundering.
The kidnapping.
The manipulation.
But then he revealed something else.
Daniel had never been his son.
He was Claire's brother.
Victoria's half-brother.
And the entire family had been manipulated through a fabricated inheritance.
Daniel wasn't trying to reclaim a stolen empire.
He was trying to erase everyone who knew the truth.
Arthur stared.
“You lied about your father.”
Daniel said nothing.
Arthur turned toward Claire.
“And you?”
Claire whispered:
“I knew.”
Elena looked at both of them.
All the lies.
All the missing children.
All the years.
All the pain.
Then she heard something.
Scratch.
Scratch.
She froze.
The same sound.
The sound that had started everything.
She pressed her ear against the wall.
A voice whispered:
“Help me.”
Elena's blood ran cold.
“Who is that?”
Daniel smiled.
“Open it.”
Arthur shouted:
“No!”
Elena found the hidden latch.
The wall opened.
Inside was a small room.
And in that room was an elderly woman.
Alive.
She looked directly at Arthur.
“You took long enough.”
Arthur froze.
“Who are you?”
The woman smiled.
“I am your mother.”
Silence.
Arthur stumbled backward.
“But my mother died before I was born.”
The old woman laughed softly.
“That is what they told you.”
She looked at Claire.
“Your grandfather built the lies.”
Then she looked at Elena.
“And your grandmother kept them alive.”
The old woman pointed at Daniel.
“Everything he told you was a lie.”
Daniel's face changed.
For the first time, he looked afraid.
The old woman whispered:
“Because the real heir isn't Arthur.”
May you like
She pointed at Elena.
“It is Mara.”
