Chapter 14 - The Girl Who Became an HeiressAt midnight, Emma became the richest six-year-old in America.

She did not know it.
She was sitting on the kitchen floor eating toast.
Luca watched the financial screens.
Billions moved.
Properties changed hands.
Bank accounts unlocked.
Corporations transferred ownership.
The Moretti trust had awakened.
Emma’s name appeared everywhere.
Emma Grace Moretti.
Not Delgado.
Moretti.
Sophia stared at the screens.
“They found her.”
Luca shook his head.
“No.”
“Then what happened?”
“The trust did.”
Marco looked at him.
“What does that mean?”
“The trust is autonomous.”
“Impossible.”
“It was built that way.”
Emma looked up.
“Why is everyone staring at the computer?”
Nobody answered.
Then Alessandro entered.
Emma ran toward him.
He caught her.
“You came back.”
“I promised.”
She hugged him.
The mansion seemed to exhale.
For one moment, nothing else mattered.
Then Alessandro looked at the screens.
“What happened?”
Luca turned.
“You inherited the empire.”
Emma frowned.
“I don’t want it.”
Alessandro smiled faintly.
“You don’t have to want it.”
A notification appeared.
TRUST CONDITION TRIGGERED.
Then another.
EXECUTIVE CONTROL HOLDER: EMMA GRACE MORETTI.
Alessandro’s face hardened.
The trust had not only transferred money.
It had transferred political influence, real estate, corporations, private accounts and every legal asset tied to the old Moretti bloodline.
The mansion was now legally Emma’s.
Everything in it.
Everyone dependent on it.
Including Alessandro’s empire.
Then another document opened.
SECOND CONDITION: TRUST HOLDER MUST CHOOSE GUARDIAN.
Emma looked up.
“Can I choose you?”
Alessandro stared.
“I’m honored.”
Before he could answer, the screen flashed.
GUARDIAN REJECTED.
Emma frowned.
“Why?”
Luca read the next line.
“Because the guardian must be unrelated by blood.”
Alessandro laughed bitterly.
“This family built a fortune just to trap itself.”
Then the system displayed the eligible guardian list.
One name appeared.
Sophia Delgado.
Emma smiled.
“Mom.”
Alessandro looked at her.
The legal system had chosen Sophia.
Which meant Sophia now controlled the trust until Emma turned eighteen.
And every enemy who wanted the fortune would have to go through her.
A knock sounded at the door.
Everyone reached for weapons.
A lawyer entered.
He was carrying a sealed envelope.
“For Miss Moretti.”
Emma blinked.
“Me?”
“Yes.”
The envelope was old.
The wax seal bore Isabella’s initials.
Alessandro opened it.
Inside was a single sentence.
Do not trust the man who saved you from the fire.
Alessandro slowly looked around the room.
Everyone was silent.
Then Emma pointed at Marco.
“Why is he crying?”
All eyes turned.
Marco wiped his face.
He looked broken.
“I knew your mother before you were born.”
Sophia stared.
“What are you talking about?”
Marco swallowed.
“I was there the night Luca was shot.”
Luca stepped forward.
“Who shot me?”
May you like
Marco looked at him.
“I did.”
