Chapter 15 - The hospital corridor was silent.Kendrick hadn't moved for seven hours.

Willa was behind the operating-room doors.
Penny slept against Elena.
Titan lay beside her.
Julian stood near the window.
Barrett watched the hallway.
No one spoke.
Finally, a doctor walked out.
Kendrick stood.
“Is she alive?”
“Yes.”
He exhaled.
“But there was a complication.”
“What?”
“The pregnancy is extremely fragile.”
Kendrick closed his eyes.
The doctor continued.
“She asked for you.”
Kendrick entered the room.
Willa lay pale beneath the lights.
She looked at him.
“I thought you'd leave.”
“I almost did.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“But?”
“But you're still the only person Titan has ever chosen.”
Despite everything, she smiled faintly.
“Kendrick.”
“My name is Daniel.”
She looked at him.
“I'm still calling you Kendrick.”
He sat beside her.
“Tell me the truth.”
She nodded.
“I didn't know about the pregnancy.”
“I believe you.”
“I didn't know about my mother.”
“I believe you.”
“I didn't know why Titan chose me.”
He smiled.
“I think I do.”
“Why?”
“He knew you were family.”
Willa looked down.
“I was scared when I first met you.”
“You should have been.”
She laughed softly.
“You were terrifying.”
“I still am.”
“Not to me.”
Silence.
Then Kendrick took her hand.
“The baby doesn't matter because of whose blood it carries.”
Willa stared.
“What?”
“It matters because it's yours.”
She looked at him.
“And Penny?”
“She wants you.”
“And Elena?”
“She wants to stay.”
Willa's eyes softened.
“What about you?”
Kendrick leaned closer.
“I chose you before I understood why.”
Tears filled Willa's eyes.
He kissed her forehead.
Outside the hospital, the Ashford empire was collapsing.
The ledger had exposed everything.
Jonathan was arrested.
His network was dismantled.
Men who had ruled Manhattan for decades were being taken away in handcuffs.
Barrett testified.
Julian disappeared.
Elena began rebuilding the lives destroyed by the syndicate.
And Penny finally started speaking again.
But one month later, something strange happened.
Willa was sitting in the garden with Penny.
Titan rested beneath the tree.
Penny held Willa's hand.
“Mommy.”
“Yes?”
“There's someone coming.”
Willa looked toward the gate.
An unfamiliar black car stopped outside.
A man stepped out.
He held a small envelope.
Kendrick came from the house.
“Who are you?”
The man handed him the envelope.
“For Daniel Ashford.”
Kendrick opened it.
Inside was one photograph.
His face went white.
The photograph showed Jonathan.
Before his arrest.
Standing beside someone else.
Someone everyone believed was dead.
Kendrick turned the photograph over.
Three words were written on the back.
THE WAR CONTINUES.
Willa walked closer.
“Who is that?”
Kendrick didn't answer.
He stared at the face.
His biological father.
Alive.
Behind them, the hospital called.
The doctor had urgent news.
The baby was coming early.
Kendrick dropped the photograph.
Willa grabbed his hand.
Penny looked up.
“Daddy?”
He stared between the photograph and the woman he loved.
For the first time in his life, Kendrick had two battles.
One for his family.
One against the bloodline that had destroyed it.
He squeezed Willa's hand.
“I'm here.”
They ran toward the car.
But before Kendrick opened the door, Titan suddenly stopped.
The mastiff turned toward the mansion.
His ears lifted.
A low growl rolled through the garden.
Willa looked back.
The gate was empty.
Then she noticed something on the ground.
A silver star.
The same symbol from her pendant.
Her heart stopped.
Someone had placed it there moments ago.
Kendrick picked it up.
On the back were four engraved words:
SHE HAS YOUR MOTHER.
Willa's face went pale.
“My mother?”
Kendrick looked at her.
“But she's in prison.”
A phone began ringing inside the mansion.
Kendrick answered.
No one spoke.
Only breathing.
Then a woman's voice whispered:
“Willa.”
She froze.
Her mother.
Alive.
Terrified.
And speaking from somewhere inside their house.
“Don't trust Kendrick.”
The line went dead.
Willa slowly looked at the man beside her.
Kendrick was already reaching for his gun.
Because Titan wasn't growling at the gate anymore.
He was growling at the house.
And upstairs, behind a locked bedroom door, something crashed.
Kendrick turned.
“Stay behind me.”
Willa held Penny close.
Kendrick raised his weapon.
The mansion lights went out.
Then a child's voice came through the darkness.
Not Penny's.
A voice no one in the family had ever heard before.
“Daddy?”
Kendrick froze.
The voice came again.
“Please help me.”
Willa stared at him.
“That wasn't Penny.”
Kendrick's face became ice.
He looked toward the staircase.
Someone else was inside.
Someone who knew his name.
Someone who had been waiting.
And as the first emergency light flickered on, a small girl appeared at the top of the stairs.
She looked exactly like Penny.
Exactly.
Same eyes.
Same face.
Same silver star around her neck.
She smiled.
“Daddy.”
Kendrick slowly lowered his gun.
Penny screamed.
“That's not me!”
The girl smiled wider.
And whispered:
“You're right.”
She pointed at Willa.
“I'm her daughter.”
Kendrick stared at Willa.
Willa's blood turned cold.

And somewhere deep beneath the mansion...
A vault door began to open.
