Chapter 19 - The Last LedgerThe attack lasted less than three minutes.

By the end, the basement was silent.

Vincent stood in the doorway.

His suit was torn.

His face bruised.

But he was smiling.

“Adrian.”

Adrian stood between Vincent and Emma.

“You're finished.”

Vincent laughed.

“No.”

He looked at Adrian's mother.

“You failed.”

She stared at him.

“You were never supposed to reach the vault.”

Vincent smiled.

“I don't need the vault.”

He raised a phone.

“I only need what's inside it.”

Adrian frowned.

“What did you do?”

Vincent pressed a button.

Every screen in the room came alive.

Bank accounts.

Transfers.

Photographs.

Names.

Enough evidence to destroy everyone.

Adrian looked at the screens.

“What is this?”

“The final ledger.”

His mother whispered:

“You fool.”

Vincent smiled.

“I've already uploaded it.”

Adrian looked at him.

“Why?”

“Because I don't intend to rule your empire.”

Vincent stepped closer.

“I intend to destroy it.”

“And everyone inside it.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Vincent's expression finally cracked.

“Because your father killed my family.”

Adrian stared.

“What?”

“Your father built the original network.”

“No.”

“He used my father as a disposable man.”

Vincent pointed at Adrian.

“Then he became a hero in your eyes.”

Adrian said nothing.

Vincent continued.

“I spent twenty years making sure your family paid.”

Sophia looked at him.

“Daniel?”

“Collateral.”

Adrian's mother stepped forward.

“You don't understand what will happen if that data goes public.”

Vincent smiled.

“Exactly.”

He pressed another button.

A timer appeared.

00:30

Adrian's heart stopped.

“What did you do?”

“Twenty seconds.”

“Stop it.”

“Why?”

“Because innocent people will die.”

Vincent laughed.

“You finally understand.”

Adrian looked at Emma.

She was holding the gold key.

He suddenly remembered Daniel's words.

The key wasn't for a vault.

It was for a lock.

A lock inside the ledger itself.

He knelt beside Emma.

“What did Daddy tell you about the key?”

She whispered:

“He said it opens the page nobody can erase.”

Adrian looked at the digital screens.

“Where?”

Emma pointed.

“On the first book.”

Adrian understood.

The original ledger contained the master encryption.

The gold key could unlock it.

He grabbed the old ledger.

Inserted the key.

A hidden compartment opened.

Inside was a small memory card.

Adrian stared.

His mother whispered:

“No.”

Vincent lunged.

Graham tackled him.

Lucas grabbed the card.

Adrian inserted it into the console.

The screen changed.

One file appeared.

CONFESSION_1998

Adrian opened it.

His father's face appeared.

Older.

Tired.

Alive.

He spoke:

“My son.”

Adrian could barely breathe.

“If you're watching this, the consortium has fallen.”

The timer froze.

Vincent stared.

“What?”

Adrian turned.

The upload had stopped.

But the confession continued.

“I was never the leader.”

A second face appeared beside him.

A woman.

Adrian's mother.

Then a third.

Vincent's father.

Then Graham.

Then Daniel.

The entire organization had been a joint operation from the beginning.

Adrian looked at his mother.

“You all built it together.”

She nodded.

“For protection.”

“And then?”

“Power.”

The confession ended with one final sentence.

“The greatest betrayal was not who stole the money.”

May you like

Adrian stared at the black screen.

“It was who taught the world to trust us.”
