Chapter 14 - Platform 9The tunnel emptied beneath the abandoned railway station.

A single light flickered overhead.
Platform 9.
Exactly where Claire's old recordings had been made.
Alex, Megan, Noah, Eva, Daniel, and his mother moved silently.
Jet led them.
The dog stopped before a concrete wall.
Eva touched a specific brick.
Nothing happened.
Then Noah spoke.
“Third one from the bottom.”
Eva looked at him.
He pressed it.
The wall opened.
Inside was a steel room.
A vault.
There were no boxes.
No money.
Only one object.
A black ledger.
Alex stepped closer.
His father's handwriting covered the first page.
Names.
Dates.
Payments.
Train numbers.
Disappearances.
Everything.
Twenty years of secrets.
Megan whispered:
“This could expose all of them.”
Claire shook her head.
“They'll kill everyone in this room before they let it out.”
Alex looked at the final page.
A single name appeared.
His own.
Underneath:
SON OF THOMAS WARREN.
Then a note:
If Alex ever finds this, tell him the truth.
Alex turned the page.
There was a letter.
His father's final words.
“My son,
I started this because I believed powerful men could be controlled.
I was wrong.
Every secret became another chain.
Every payment created another victim.
When Claire tried to expose them, I tried to erase my own mistakes.
I couldn't.
So I chose the only thing left.
My children.
I hid Noah.
I helped Eva disappear.
I asked Jet to remember the route.”
Alex stopped.
“Jet was trained for this?”
Claire nodded.
“Thomas spent months teaching him.”
Alex read on.
“The dog is safer than a man.
He cannot be bought.
He cannot be threatened.
And when the day comes, he will lead Alex to the truth.”
Alex's eyes filled.
Then the station lights came on.
Slowly.
One by one.
A man stepped onto the platform.
The governor.
Surrounded by armed guards.
Behind him stood the prosecutor.
And Elias.
Alive.
The governor smiled.
“Thomas always believed there was honor in truth.”
He looked at the ledger.
“He forgot one thing.”
Alex raised his weapon.
“What?”
“People don't want truth.”
The governor looked around.
“They want comfort.”
The prosecutor moved forward.
“Hand over the ledger.”
Alex shook his head.
“No.”
The governor sighed.
“Then we do this the hard way.”
He lifted a hand.
A rifle pointed toward Noah.
Jet stepped in front of the boy.
The shooter hesitated.
Alex saw it.
“Fire.”
The shot came.
Jet jumped.
The bullet struck his shoulder.
“JET!”
Noah screamed.
The dog fell.
Alex fired back.
Chaos exploded across the platform.
Megan pulled the children behind cover.
Daniel shot one guard.
Claire tackled another.
The prosecutor ran toward the vault.
The governor disappeared into the tunnel.
Alex chased him.
He ran down the tracks.
The governor reached a waiting train.
Alex was seconds behind.
He grabbed the door.
The train began moving.
The governor looked back.
“You should have stayed ignorant.”
Alex hauled himself aboard.
Inside the moving train, the governor smiled.
“You think the ledger is the end?”
Alex aimed his gun.
“No.”
The governor laughed.
“It is the beginning.”
Then he pointed toward the next carriage.
Alex looked.
Someone was tied to a seat.
A woman.
Megan gasped from behind him.
“That's…”
Alex's blood went cold.
The woman was wearing a hospital gown.
She lifted her head.
It was Alex's mother.
But the woman standing on the platform was still there.
Alex turned back.
Two identical women.
One in the train.
One outside.
The governor smiled.
“Now you understand why your father failed.”
May you like
The train vanished into the darkness.
And Jet was still bleeding on the platform.
