Chapter 8 - The Name Nobody ExpectedMarcus raised the gun.

Vittorio's security team moved instantly.
A shot cracked through the warehouse.
Nobody was hit.
Marcus ran.
Two guards chased him.
He escaped through a side door.
Vittorio stood among the scattered papers.
His eyes remained fixed on the black ledger.
The name was missing.
Who was paying Bianca?
Who had enough power to control Ferraro?
Who could erase medical files, alter accident reports, intimidate witnesses, and manipulate a wealthy family from the shadows?
Vittorio returned home before dawn.
Lucy was awake.
She was sitting on the stairs.
“Daddy.”
He crouched beside her.
“You should be sleeping.”
“I was waiting.”
“For me?”
She nodded.
Vittorio hugged her.
“You're safe.”
Lucy hesitated.
Then she whispered:
“Am I?”
Vittorio looked at her.
“What do you mean?”
“Bianca said people who know too much don't stay here.”
His stomach tightened.
“What else did she say?”
“She said Mommy knew.”
“Knew what?”
Lucy looked toward the ceiling.
“That Grandpa was angry.”
Vittorio froze.
“My father?”
Lucy nodded.
“Mommy fought with Grandpa.”
“That isn't possible.”
“Why?”
“Because my father died eight years ago.”
Lucy looked confused.
“No.”
Vittorio stared.
“Lucy, Grandpa died before you were born.”
She shook her head.
“Not that Grandpa.”
“What do you mean?”
“The man in the black car called himself Grandpa.”
Silence.
Vittorio felt something deep inside him collapse.
“Lucy, when did you see him?”
“The night Mommy died.”
Vittorio's mind raced.
“Where?”
“In the driveway.”
“Did he speak to you?”
“Yes.”
“What did he say?”
Lucy whispered:
“He said I was supposed to go with Mommy.”
Vittorio stood.
Every instinct told him something was terribly wrong.
He pulled up the family archives.
Photographs.
Birth records.
Death records.
Then he found an old photograph of his father.
Beside him stood another man.
They looked almost identical.
Twins.
Vittorio had forgotten.
One brother had died young.
The other had disappeared from the family's history after a brutal inheritance dispute.
His name was Marco Ferraro.
Vittorio stared at the photograph.
The man in the warehouse ledger was not just connected to Ferraro.
He was Ferraro.
A member of Vittorio's own family.
His father's twin.
Everyone had believed him dead.
But he had been alive.
And he had been operating in the shadows.
Vittorio called Luca.
“Who is Marco?”
No answer.
“Luca.”
Finally, his brother whispered:
“You found him.”
“Where?”
“He's been watching the family for years.”
“Why?”
“Because your father left him nothing.”
Vittorio's eyes hardened.
“That doesn't explain Elena.”
Luca went silent.
“Tell me.”
“She discovered his identity.”
“And?”
“She threatened to expose him.”
Vittorio looked at Lucy.
“What happened after that?”
Luca's voice cracked.
“She was supposed to disappear.”
Vittorio's heart stopped.
“What?”
“It wasn't meant to kill her.”
Vittorio closed his eyes.
“What happened?”
Luca whispered:
“The brakes were damaged.”
Vittorio stared at the floor.
“Who did it?”
Marcus.
“Who was driving the second car?”
“Marco.”
Vittorio's hand shook.
“And Elena?”
Luca started crying.
“She survived the crash.”
Vittorio looked up.
“What?”
“She survived for forty minutes.”
“Then why did she die?”
Luca whispered the sentence that would haunt Vittorio forever.
“Because someone got to the hospital before the ambulance.”
The call ended.
Vittorio turned toward Lucy.
She was crying.
“Daddy…”
He rushed toward her.
But before he could reach her, every light in the house went out.
A voice came through the security speakers.
“Hello, Vittorio.”
He froze.
The voice was old.
Calm.
Familiar.
“You've spent years thinking your father taught you how to protect this family.”
A pause.
“He didn't.”
The speakers crackled.
“He taught me.”
Then the front doors locked automatically.

The voice whispered:
“And tonight, I'm taking back what belongs to me.”
