Chapter 7 - The Mark on My WristWhen the lights returned, my wrist was covered in a black circle.

I screamed.
My husband grabbed my arm.
“What is that?”
His father stared at it.
“The mark.”
“What mark?”
“The bride's mark.”
I pulled away.
“I am not doing any ritual.”
My husband stepped between us.
“She isn't doing anything.”
His father smiled.
“You don't understand.”
“Then explain.”
“The ritual has already begun.”
My husband shook his head.
“No.”
His father looked at me.
“Your sister never completed it.”
“Why?”
“Because she escaped.”
I stared.
“Lena escaped?”
“She lived long enough to run.”
My mind spun.
“If she escaped, where is she?”
His father didn't answer.
My husband suddenly grabbed my phone.
“I know someone who can explain.”
He dialed a number.
Nobody answered.
He tried again.
Finally, a woman's voice came through.
“Is she there?”
My husband looked at me.
“Yes.”
Silence.
Then the woman whispered:
“Get her out.”
I took the phone.
“Who are you?”
The woman breathed shakily.
“My name is Lena.”
I dropped the phone.
The call ended.
Nobody moved.
My husband looked stunned.
“But that's impossible.”
I stared at the screen.
A new message arrived.
YOUR SISTER IS ALIVE.
Then another.
SHE IS THE ONE BITING YOU.
My skin crawled.
I looked down at the marks on my legs.
“What does she want?”
The answer arrived instantly.
THE TRUTH.
Then the bedroom window shattered.
A woman stood outside.
May you like
Blood ran down her face.
She looked exactly like me.
