Chapter 13 - The Evidence Beneath the FloorI had built ValeCore because I hated uncertainty.

Every system needed a backup.
Every backup needed another backup.
Every vulnerability needed an answer.
My family had spent years exploiting that instinct against me.
They assumed I kept secrets because I was frightened.
They were wrong.
I kept secrets because I prepared.
When the live accusation appeared, I didn't defend myself publicly.
I smiled.
Then I told Mara one sentence.
"Activate Atlas."
Her voice came through my earpiece.
"Already done."
Atlas was the system no one knew existed.
Not even the board.
A sealed archive designed to activate only if someone attempted to alter my ownership structure.
It contained everything.
Every email.
Every contract.
Every transfer.
Every conversation.
Every digital signature.
The system began releasing evidence automatically.
Not all at once.
In sequence.
First came the original Northbridge incorporation documents.
Then the money trail.
Then Victor's recorded conversations.
Then my father's authorization attempts.
Then my mother's communications.
The internet exploded.
The scandal reversed in minutes.
The accusation against me collapsed.
But Atlas had one final file.
I didn't know what it contained.
Until it appeared.
A video.
My father at my desk.
Four years earlier.
He was talking to Victor.
"You only need to keep her distracted."
Victor asked:
"And when the company crosses ten billion?"
My father answered:
"She signs everything over."
Victor laughed.
"And if she refuses?"
My father looked at the camera.
"Then she'll learn what family means."
I froze.
Bianca covered her mouth.
My mother closed her eyes.
The video ended.
Silence.
My father's face turned gray.
Marcus stared at the screen.
"You had this?"
I looked at him.
"Yes."
"How?"
"I installed cameras."
Marcus laughed bitterly.
"You're more like me than I thought."
"No."
I shook my head.
"I'm nothing like you."
The police moved forward.
Marcus didn't resist.
Victor was arrested two hours later.
My father was taken for questioning.
My mother sat on a bench, crying.
Bianca stood beside me.
For once, neither of us had anything to say.
Then an investigator approached.
"Ms. Vale."
"Yes?"
"There is one more thing."
He handed me a document.
"We found this in the Northbridge archives."
It was an ownership agreement.
I opened it.
One percentage jumped from the page.
51%.
My name wasn't listed beside it.
Nor was my father's.
Nor my mother's.
Nor Marcus's.
The controlling beneficiary was someone else.
I looked at the investigator.
"Who owns this?"
"We don't know."
"Where was it filed?"
"Outside the country."
"Which country?"
He hesitated.
"Switzerland."
My heart sank.
Because Switzerland wasn't the real problem.
The problem was the date.
The agreement had been signed yesterday.
Meaning...

Someone else had been preparing for my downfall.
And they had waited until my name became famous before making their move.
