Chapter 14 - THE CHOICEThirty seconds.

The room descended into chaos.

People screamed.

Servers flashed.

Warning alarms filled the underground chamber.

Victor laughed from the floor.

"You see?"

"You can't do it."

He coughed.

"Your father couldn't either."

I stared at the countdown.

Twenty-four seconds.

Twenty-three.

I thought about my father's face.

My mother.

Clara.

Flynn.

Twelve years of lies.

Twelve years of sacrifice.

The countless people who had suffered because powerful men thought they could own everything.

Maybe this was what my father had been trying to teach me.

Power wasn't about having the ability to destroy.

It was about knowing when not to.

Ten seconds.

I touched the terminal.

"Stop."

Nothing happened.

Nine.

"Stop!"

The countdown continued.

Eight.

Alexander shouted:

"You have to override it!"

"I don't know how!"

"Use the secondary command!"

"What?"

He pointed to a small panel.

"Your father's emergency code!"

I remembered the folder.

The sentence.

The first page.

If Flynn ever betrays my daughter, give her this folder.

The wording.

I suddenly understood.

It wasn't about Flynn.

It was an activation command.

The phrase contained a hidden sequence.

I whispered:

"Mabel Hart."

The system beeped.

"Bloodline recognized."

I continued.

"Father's oath."

The screen changed.

AUTHORIZATION MODE: ETHICAL LOCK.

I stared.

My father had built a second layer.

One that required the heir to choose destruction or exposure.

The system displayed two options.

TOTAL COLLAPSE

FULL DISCLOSURE

I selected:

FULL DISCLOSURE.

The countdown stopped.

Every secret account.

Every hidden company.

Every bribe.

Every offshore transfer.

Every illegal acquisition.

Every name connected to the Black Ledger.

Everything was released.

Across the world.

Phones began ringing.

News alerts exploded.

The Black Ledger was exposed in real time.

Victor stared at the screen.

"No."

Richard whispered:

"Your father planned this."

I nodded.

"He knew I would choose this."

Victor tried to stand.

"You think you've won?"

I looked at him.

"No."

He smiled.

"You forgot one thing."

"What?"

"You still have a family."

He pointed at Flynn.

A guard grabbed him.

Another seized Clara.

Selina raised her gun.

Victor laughed.

"Kill one of them."

"Stop!"

He pointed at Flynn.

"Your husband."

Then Clara.

"Or your daughter."

I stared at the gun.

Victor's hand trembled.

"You only get one."

Silence.

Flynn looked at me.

"Choose Clara."

I cried.

"Don't."

"Choose her."

Victor smiled.

"Smart man."

He aimed at Flynn.

Then something happened.

Alexander stepped forward.

"I'll make the choice."

Victor turned.

Alexander fired.

Victor collapsed.

But Alexander didn't stop.

He turned his gun toward Flynn.

I screamed.

"Alexander!"

He pointed at my husband.

Flynn slowly raised his hands.

"You can't."

Alexander's face was empty.

"I've been waiting twenty-two years."

"For what?"

Alexander looked at me.

"For my revenge."

He fired.

The bullet struck Flynn in the chest.

He fell.

I screamed.

Everything went black.

When I opened my eyes, I was on the floor.

Flynn was bleeding.

Clara was crying.

Alexander stood over us.

Then he whispered:

"I'm sorry."

May you like

He dropped the gun.

And ran.
