Chapter 14 - Dante didn't lower his gun.Matteo stepped closer.

“You've always been predictable.”

“You've been manipulating everyone.”

“I created the world you survived in.”

“You destroyed it.”

Matteo looked at Elena.

“Your mother destroyed it.”

Elena stepped between them.

“Enough.”

Both men looked at her.

“I'm done being protected.”

She held up the memory chip.

“You want this?”

Matteo nodded.

“Yes.”

“Then come get it.”

Dante whispered:

“Elena.”

She looked at him.

“I know what I'm doing.”

Matteo smiled.

“Do you?”

“Yes.”

She tossed the chip onto the floor.

Matteo's eyes followed it.

A tiny red light blinked.

Dante suddenly understood.

“Get down!”

The basement exploded with smoke.

Sprinklers activated.

Emergency alarms screamed.

Dante tackled Elena to the floor.

Matteo vanished.

Harold disappeared into the smoke.

Isabella dragged herself toward the wall.

Julian shouted:

“There's another exit!”

They escaped through a hidden tunnel.

The tunnel led beneath the original Hart property.

Then into the underground network beneath Haven Point.

Elena finally understood.

The entire city was sitting above it.

Tunnels.

Control rooms.

Power stations.

Water gates.

The architecture wasn't just a building.

It was a machine.

And the final command was hidden inside her memory.

Dante looked at the walls.

“This system can destroy half the waterfront.”

“How?”

“Flood control.”

Elena understood.

Matteo planned to threaten the city.

Force the government to give him control.

Harold wanted to profit.

Dante wanted to shut it down.

Elena had another idea.

“Can we expose everything?”

Dante looked at the system.

“Yes.”

“How?”

“The network is connected to every public emergency server.”

Elena smiled.

“We don't destroy it.”

“We expose it.”

They reached the main control chamber.

Hundreds of monitors surrounded them.

Elena inserted the chip.

The system recognized her.

AUTHORIZED USER: ELENA HART MORETTI

She froze.

Moretti.

Her heart tightened.

Dante stood beside her.

“You don't have to use the name.”

She looked at him.

“I know.”

She pressed ENTER.

Every file in the archive uploaded.

Bank accounts.

Videos.

Audio.

Murder orders.

Bribery records.

Everything.

The world began receiving the evidence.

Phones across the city buzzed.

Newsrooms lit up.

Police systems activated.

Government servers received alerts.

Harold appeared on one of the cameras.

His face twisted with rage.

“You stupid girl!”

Elena stared at him.

“I'm not your victim anymore.”

Matteo appeared beside him.

“You have no idea what you've done.”

“I know exactly.”

She pressed another command.

PUBLIC RELEASE: COMPLETE

The archive became impossible to erase.

Dante looked at her.

“You did it.”

Then the entire tunnel shook.

A red warning flashed.

WATER GATE FAILURE.

Dante's face changed.

“Matteo activated the system.”

“What does that mean?”

“If the gates open, the waterfront floods.”

“How long?”

He looked at the countdown.

07:00

Seven minutes.

Julian stared at the controls.

“We can stop it.”

Dante shook his head.

“Not from here.”

Elena looked at the map.

One location flashed.

The central tower.

Haven Point.

“The manual override.”

“Yes.”

“Then we go.”

They ran.

Behind them, water began rushing through the tunnels.

Isabella stayed behind.

“Go!”

Elena turned.

Isabella smiled.

“Finish this.”

Dante dragged Elena forward.

They reached the tower.

The city skyline glittered beyond the glass.

The countdown showed:

02:31

Harold stood at the control panel.

Matteo beside him.

Dante aimed his gun.

“Step away.”

Matteo smiled.

“You're too late.”

The countdown hit:

00:59

Elena looked at the controls.

Then at the foundation plans.

Then she understood.

The system had been designed to recognize only one command.

Architectural authorization.

Her own.

She placed her hand on the scanner.

The screen flashed.

CONFIRM FLOOD RELEASE?

She clicked:

NO.

Then another option appeared.

REDIRECT?

She clicked:

YES.

Matteo's smile disappeared.

“What did you do?”

Elena looked at him.

“I changed the design.”

The countdown stopped.

Then the entire system reset.

SAFE MODE.

The city was saved.

Police sirens filled the street below.

Harold looked at Matteo.

“You promised.”

Matteo stared at Elena.

For the first time, he looked afraid.

Then he whispered:

“You really are Claire's daughter.”

A gunshot rang out.

Matteo collapsed.

Elena turned.

Dante was holding the gun.

But his eyes were not on Matteo.

They were on the doorway.

Harold stood there.

Smiling.

Holding a second gun.

And behind him stood someone Elena never expected to see.

May you like

Claire Hart.

Alive.
