Chapter 14 - Adrienne woke beneath rubble.Smoke filled the room.

He couldn't hear.

His left arm was trapped.

“Mia!”

No answer.

He forced himself free.

Bruno emerged from the dust.

His coat was burned.

But he was standing.

Adrienne followed him.

They found Mia unconscious beneath a fallen beam.

Adrienne lifted it.

Sofia helped pull her free.

Mia opened her eyes.

“Daddy?”

Adrienne held her tightly.

“I'm here.”

Bruno sat beside them.

Then Adrienne heard a faint voice.

Anthony.

“You still don't understand.”

Adrienne looked up.

Anthony stood in the doorway.

Bleeding.

His suit torn.

But alive.

Adrienne raised his weapon.

Anthony laughed.

“Shoot me.”

Adrienne aimed.

“Where's the original trust?”

Anthony smiled.

“You have it.”

Adrienne frowned.

“No.”

Anthony pointed at Bruno.

“The dog brought it to you.”

Adrienne looked at Bruno's collar.

The metal tube.

He removed it.

Inside was not paper.

It was a memory card.

Tony inserted it.

A video appeared.

Lucien Moretti.

The eldest brother.

Adrienne's unknown grandfather.

He spoke directly into the camera.

“If you're watching this, the family has collapsed.”

“I created the Moretti trust to protect my descendants.”

“No government could control it.”

“No bank could seize it.”

“No brother could steal it.”

“Only blood could unlock it.”

The video continued.

“And the final key is not a document.”

“It is a person.”

Adrienne looked at Mia.

Lucien's voice softened.

“Your daughter.”

Adrienne froze.

“The trust was designed so that no one could control the heir.”

“Not the parents.”

“Not the trustees.”

“Not the family.”

“Only the heir.”

Anthony shook his head.

“You see?”

Adrienne looked at him.

“You needed Mia because she could unlock it.”

“Yes.”

“And after that?”

Anthony smiled.

“I would own everything.”

Adrienne looked at Mia.

Then back at Anthony.

“You never needed her dead.”

“No.”

“You needed her eighteen.”

Anthony's silence confirmed it.

Adrienne understood the entire plan.

Anthony had manipulated everyone into believing Mia was in danger.

He had used fear to control Adrienne.

He needed Adrienne alive because only Adrienne could legally protect Mia.

Then he would wait until Mia turned eighteen.

But the clause had another condition.

Adrienne read it.

“Guardian must voluntarily transfer authority.”

Anthony smiled.

“Exactly.”

Adrienne stared.

“You can't force me.”

Anthony nodded.

“So I needed you desperate.”

Adrienne stepped closer.

“Why Bruno?”

“Because you trusted him.”

Anthony's voice became quiet.

“I knew you would destroy half the world for that dog.”

Adrienne looked at Bruno.

The dog limped toward him.

Adrienne knelt.

He touched Bruno's head.

“You were never the target.”

Bruno licked his hand.

Anthony raised his gun.

But before he could fire, Tony shot him.

Anthony dropped.

Silence.

Adrienne stood.

Then police sirens filled the street.

Tony had called federal agents.

The evidence was finally enough.

Trust records.

Bank transfers.

Surveillance files.

Anthony's network.

All of it.

They arrested him.

But as they took him away, Anthony looked at Adrienne.

“This isn't over.”

Adrienne stared.

“You're finished.”

Anthony smiled.

“No.”

He looked at Mia.

“Ask your daughter what she remembers.”

Adrienne froze.

Mia was three.

She remembered very little.

But when Adrienne returned to her, she was staring at Anthony.

Then she spoke.

“I know him.”

Adrienne knelt.

“You've seen him before?”

Mia nodded.

“He came to my room.”

“When?”

“Before Bruno.”

Adrienne's face changed.

“What did he say?”

Mia hugged her rabbit.

“He asked me where Mommy hid the box.”

Adrienne looked at Sofia.

Sofia went pale.

“What box?”

May you like

Mia whispered:

“The one under the floor.”
