My Dog Vanished While I Was Away—Then a 3-Year-Old Girl Pointed at My Wife and Said, “She Made Him Sleep…”
THE DOG WHO NEVER LEFT
At 6:12 Thursday morning, Adrienne Moretti returned to his Long Island estate one day early.
The moment he entered the foyer, he knew something was wrong.
Bruno was missing.
The 150-pound mastiff had greeted Adrienne every time he came home for eight years.
Always.
“Where’s Bruno?”
Nobody answered.
Finally, Vivien Romano appeared at the staircase.
“He wandered off Tuesday night.”
Adrienne stared at her.
“My dog doesn’t wander.”
“The service gate may have been left open.”
Adrienne turned to security chief Tony.
“No gate was reported open.”
Silence.
Then a tiny voice came from the hallway.
“Bruno didn’t go.”
Everyone turned.
Three-year-old Mia stood barefoot, clutching a stuffed rabbit.
Adrienne crouched in front of her.
“What happened to Bruno?”
Mia pointed at Vivien.
“The bad lady made him sleepy.”
Vivien went pale.
“That’s ridiculous.”
Mia shook her head.
“Then two men carried him into a black car.”
Adrienne slowly stood.
“Where did they take him?”
Mia pointed toward the service drive.
“That way.”
Tony swallowed.
“Boss... there’s something else.”
Adrienne looked at him.
“The service-drive camera was offline Tuesday night.”
“When?”
“10:43 to 11:36.”
Exactly when Bruno disappeared.
Adrienne glanced at Vivien.
Her face had gone completely still.
“You think I had something to do with this?” she whispered.
Adrienne didn't answer.
“Lock every gate,” he ordered.
“Nobody leaves this property.”
Then he looked at Tony.
“Bring me everyone who had access to those cameras.”
“Check every traffic camera, toll booth, gas station, shelter, veterinary clinic, and police report from here to Queens.”
Vivien scoffed.
“All this... for a dog?”
Adrienne finally looked at her.
“Bruno stayed beside my mother's coffin until the cemetery closed.”
His voice hardened.
“He slept outside my bedroom every night when I was seventeen because I was too proud to admit I was afraid.”
He stepped closer to Vivien.
“He has been loyal to me longer than most people in this house.”
Mia quietly tugged Elena's sleeve.
“Bruno is my friend.”
Adrienne looked at the little girl.
Then back at Vivien.

His expression became ice.
“And now someone is going to tell me where my dog is.”
