Chapter 15 - The Last HeirThe lights went out.

Total darkness.

Adrian grabbed Maisie's hand.

“Stay close.”

Owen cried.

Noah backed against the wall.

Ethan pushed himself upright despite the bullet wound.

Clara moved toward the door.

“Everyone out.”

A deep mechanical hum shook the floor.

Julian looked horrified.

“They activated it.”

“Activated what?” Adrian demanded.

Julian pointed toward the center of the room.

A hidden chamber opened beneath the floor.

Inside was a glass cylinder.

A computer.

And hundreds of genetic samples.

Adrian stared.

“This is what they wanted.”

Julian nodded.

“The original bloodline archive.”

Adrian saw labels.

His father's.

His grandfather's.

Ethan's.

Julian's.

His own.

Maisie's.

Noah's.

And Owen's.

One final label was blank.

Julian whispered:

“That's the key.”

Adrian stepped closer.

“The blank one?”

“Yes.”

“What does it need?”

Julian looked at him.

“Your DNA.”

Adrian froze.

“Why mine?”

“Because you are the only surviving child born naturally outside the succession program.”

Adrian finally understood.

His father had raised him as a spare.

Not an heir.

Not a favorite.

A key.

Everyone had been watching Owen.

Everyone had been hunting Maisie.

Everyone had ignored Adrian.

That was the design.

Adrian looked at his children.

Not biological children all in the same way.

But children he had protected.

Children who had become family.

He pulled out the silver key.

Inserted it into the machine.

Nothing happened.

Julian looked confused.

“It should open.”

Adrian looked at the key.

Then at Noah.

“No.”

He removed it.

“The key isn't mine.”

He handed it to Noah.

The machine lit up.

Everyone stared.

Noah stepped forward.

A light scanned his hand.

The archive opened.

Julian covered his mouth.

“He's the one.”

Adrian looked at Noah.

The seven-year-old stared at the machine.

“What happens now?”

Adrian knelt.

“Nothing bad.”

A screen turned on.

A video began.

Julian's face appeared.

But this Julian was younger.

Before his supposed death.

He spoke directly into the camera.

“If you're watching this, the family has finally been exposed.”

He looked exhausted.

“Adrian, you were never the backup.”

Adrian stared.

“You were the shield.”

The message continued.

“Everyone was told the fifth heir would control the trust.”

A pause.

“But the truth is different.”

Julian leaned closer.

“The trust was designed to belong to all of them.”

Adrian's eyes widened.

“To every child who survived.”

The room fell silent.

Maisie.

Owen.

Noah.

Ethan.

Julian.

And Adrian.

They were not competitors.

They were the reason the trust existed.

The fortune had never been intended for one person.

It had been designed to destroy anyone who tried to possess it alone.

Julian's final words echoed:

“Your father didn't fear losing the money.”

He looked directly at the camera.

“He feared losing control.”

The video ended.

Then another screen displayed hundreds of files.

Bank accounts.

Government contracts.

Bribes.

Fake identities.

Hospital records.

Every lie.

Everything.

Adrian turned to Daniel.

“Can we release all of it?”

Daniel nodded.

“Yes.”

Adrian looked at Julian.

“And him?”

Julian lowered his head.

“Turn me in too.”

Adrian stared.

“You're asking me to arrest you?”

“I killed people.”

“You killed people to protect them.”

“That doesn't erase it.”

Adrian lowered his weapon.

For the first time in years, he wasn't thinking like a Vale.

He was thinking like a father.

Like someone who had spent an entire day discovering that almost every truth he believed was a lie.

Sirens echoed outside.

Police entered Room 17.

Clara surrendered.

Julian surrendered.

The surviving records were secured.

Weeks later, the mansion was no longer surrounded by guards.

The hidden rooms were sealed.

The old trust was transferred into a legal foundation benefiting every surviving descendant.

Owen recovered completely.

The doctors eventually confirmed his biological connection to Ethan.

Maisie learned that Julian was her father.

Noah was placed under Adrian's protection.

And Adrian finally confronted Natalie.

She stood beside the garden.

“I am sorry,” she whispered.

Adrian looked at her.

“You lied to me.”

“Yes.”

“You used my name.”

“Yes.”

“You put my son in danger.”

“I know.”

He looked toward the lawn.

Maisie and Noah were playing.

Owen slept peacefully nearby.

“You should have told me.”

Natalie nodded.

“I was afraid.”

Adrian exhaled.

“So was I.”

He walked away.

But before he reached the house, his phone rang.

Daniel.

“Adrian.”

“What?”

“There is a problem.”

Adrian stopped.

“What now?”

Daniel hesitated.

“We finished decrypting the final archive.”

Adrian's stomach tightened.

“What did you find?”

“A birth record.”

“Whose?”

“It has your name.”

Adrian frowned.

“My birth record?”

“No.”

Daniel's voice lowered.

“Your father's first child.”

Adrian looked toward the children.

“Ethan?”

“No.”

“Julian?”

“No.”

“Then who?”

A long pause.

Daniel whispered:

“The record says your father had another son.”

Adrian closed his eyes.

“How old?”

“Twenty-nine.”

Adrian felt a cold wave move through him.

“That makes no sense.”

“I know.”

“Where is he?”

Daniel answered:

“He's alive.”

Adrian turned slowly toward the mansion.

“Where?”

Daniel's final words stopped his heart.

“He is standing outside your front gate.”

Adrian looked toward the road.

A black car had just stopped.

The rear door opened.

A man stepped out.

Same height as Adrian.

Same dark eyes.

Same scar over the left eyebrow.

He looked directly at the mansion.

Then at Adrian.

And smiled.

Adrian's phone slipped from his hand.

Because the man raised one hand.

And held up a photograph.

A photograph of Owen.

Taken that morning.

Then another photograph.

Maisie.

Then Noah.

Three children.

Three targets.

Adrian's blood turned to ice.

The man at the gate smiled again.

May you like

And mouthed four words.

“We need the fourth.”
