Chapter 14 - Room 17The cemetery sat beyond the northern estate.

Adrian remembered the place.
Julian's grave.
His father's supposed grave.
An old mausoleum.
Room 17 wasn't marked on any map.
But the silver key opened a hidden iron gate beneath the crypt.
Inside was a corridor.
Concrete walls.
Old surveillance screens.
Files.
Photographs.
And dozens of children's medical records.
Adrian walked slowly.
Every step felt like walking deeper into someone else's nightmare.
At the end of the corridor was a room marked 17.
He inserted the key.
The door opened.
Inside stood a single hospital bed.
And a woman.
Alive.
Connected to machines.
Adrian stared.
He knew her face.
Elena Vane.
The founder's daughter.
The woman in the photograph.
The woman everyone believed had died decades ago.
Her eyes opened.
“Adrian.”
He froze.
“How do you know me?”
“Because I watched you grow.”
Adrian stepped closer.
“You're related to us?”
She nodded.
“I am your father's mother.”
Adrian stared.
“No.”
“Yes.”
“My grandmother died before I was born.”
“The woman who died was not me.”
Adrian looked around.
“Why all this?”
“To protect the bloodline.”
“From whom?”
She whispered:
“From the man who built the false family.”
Adrian's heart pounded.
“The twin?”
She nodded.
“He was never supposed to inherit anything.”
“Then why did he?”
“Because your grandfather chose him.”
“Why?”
“Greed.”
She reached toward a drawer.
Inside was a document.
“The original trust.”
Adrian took it.
His eyes widened.
One clause had been altered.
The fifth heir was not Maisie.
Not Owen.
Not even Ethan's child.
The fifth heir was whoever carried Elena Vane's unbroken genetic line.
Adrian looked at the list.
It included someone whose name he had never seen.
Noah Reed.
Adrian's blood went cold.
“Noah?”
Elena nodded.
“He is the first male descendant born outside the legal family.”
Adrian shook his head.
“Then why was Owen targeted?”
“Because everyone believed the wrong child was the heir.”
“And Maisie?”
“Julian's daughter. She has no legal claim.”
Adrian stared.
“But then why did your granddaughter…”
Elena interrupted.
“Because Clara knows the truth.”
Adrian thought of the gunshot.
Clara had been trying to stop them.
Maybe not kill them.
Maybe prevent something else.
“Where is she?”
Elena's face darkened.
“She came here before you.”
A door slammed.
Adrian turned.
Clara stood at the end of the corridor.
She was crying.
She lowered her weapon.
“I am sorry.”
Adrian raised his gun.
“You killed Julian.”
“Yes.”
“You shot Ethan.”
“Yes.”
“You tried to manipulate all of us.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Clara looked at Noah.
“To keep him alive.”
Adrian hesitated.
“What does your father want?”
Clara laughed bitterly.
“Not money.”
“Then what?”
“Immortality.”
She pointed toward the machines.
“He has been preserving the original genetic records for decades.”
Adrian looked at Elena.
Clara continued:
“He believes the bloodline can be controlled through selective inheritance.”
Adrian felt sick.
“This isn't about wealth.”
“No.”
“It is about blood.”
“Yes.”
Clara wiped her tears.
“Your father started it.”
“But who is your father?”
She looked toward the darkness.
“That's the problem.”
A voice answered.
“Me.”
Adrian turned.
A man stepped into the room.
Older.
Calm.
He looked like Adrian.
But not exactly.
His face carried a scar.
His eyes were colder.
Ethan's face had gone white.
“Julian.”
Adrian stared.
“What?”
Ethan whispered:
“He isn't dead.”
Julian smiled.
“I never was.”
Adrian couldn't speak.
Julian walked closer.
“I needed all of you to believe I died.”
“You let me mourn you.”
“Yes.”
“You let your daughter believe she had no father.”
Julian looked at Maisie.
Tears filled his eyes.
“I did.”
“Why?”
Julian knelt.
“Because there was only one way to stop them.”
Adrian pointed his gun.
“Then tell me.”
Julian looked at Noah.
Then Owen.
Then Maisie.
“We needed them all together.”
Adrian frowned.
“Why?”
Julian smiled sadly.
“Because the final document isn't in the trust.”
“Where is it?”
Julian pointed toward Adrian.
“It is inside you.”
Adrian froze.
“What?”
Julian whispered:
“Your body carries the last genetic key.”
And behind them, every machine in Room 17 suddenly shut off.

Elena opened her eyes one final time.
“Run.”
