Chapter 18 - The BroadcastThe entire world watched the video.

Newsrooms interrupted broadcasts.
Phones buzzed.
Financial markets froze.
Politicians denied everything.
The Salcedo name appeared across every screen.
And at the center of it all was Mariana.
Alive.
Standing inside an underground facility that officially didn't exist.
The yacht footage replayed.
Again.
And again.
Mariana's mother prying her fingers from the rail.
Esteban standing behind her.
The world saw the truth.
The story about suicide collapsed within minutes.
But Adrian remained calm.
“You still lose.”
Mariana looked at him.
“Why?”
“Because evidence isn't enough.”
He smiled.
“I control the institutions.”
“You're finished.”
“Am I?”
He pointed to the screens.
“Look.”
New statements appeared.
Government agencies denying the footage.
Experts calling it fabricated.
Deepfake specialists arguing the recording had been manipulated.
Mariana stared.
“He still controls the media.”
“Not all of it,” Gabriel whispered.
He was awake.
Bleeding.
But alive.
He reached for a control panel.
“I sent the raw file.”
“Where?”
“To twelve journalists.”
“Will they publish?”
“They already did.”
A wave of notifications flooded the screen.
RAW YACHT SECURITY FOOTAGE VERIFIED.
Then:
MARlANA SALCEDO MURDER ATTEMPT CONFIRMED.
Then:
FEDERAL AUTHORITIES RAID SALCEDO ESTATES.
Adrian's smile vanished.
“No.”
Gabriel laughed.
“Your empire is burning.”
Adrian looked at Mariana.
“This isn't over.”
“I know.”
He reached for a gun.
Tomas shot his hand.
Adrian screamed.
Mariana stepped toward Mateo.
Doctors rushed into the room.
The cables were removed.
Mateo opened his eyes.
“Mommy.”
She grabbed him.
“I'm here.”
He smiled.
Then looked toward the black door.
“It's awake.”
Mariana froze.
“What is?”
“The memory.”
A vibration traveled through the facility.
Everyone stopped.
The grandmother emerged from the shadows.
She looked at Mariana.
“Now you understand.”
“What?”
“The system is no longer waiting.”
“For me?”
“No.”
She pointed at Mateo.
“For him.”
Mariana pulled him closer.
“What does he need?”
The woman smiled.
“Nothing.”
“Then why?”
“Because the structure has decided.”
“Decided what?”
“That humans have had enough time.”
Mariana felt the air leave her lungs.
“What are you saying?”
The woman walked toward the black door.
“Open your eyes.”
The door opened.
Light flooded the chamber.
Mariana saw something impossible.
A city.
Not human.
Massive.
Silent.
Built beneath the ocean.
Thousands of structures.
Vehicles moving without engines.
Lights like stars.
Figures walking through transparent corridors.
Then the image changed.
The city was empty.
Destroyed.
Abandoned.
Mariana whispered:
“Who lived there?”
The grandmother answered:
“Us.”
Mariana stared.
“You said it wasn't human.”
“It wasn't.”
“Then what happened?”
The woman looked at Mateo.
“He happened.”
Mariana's heart stopped.
“What?”
“Every civilization creates its successor.”
She smiled.
“Your son is not the key to the machine.”
“He is the reason it was built.”
Mateo looked up.
“Mommy.”
“What?”
“I remember now.”
“Remember what?”
He pointed beyond the open door.
“I was here before.”
Mariana's knees weakened.
“You're five.”
Mateo shook his head.
“No.”
May you like
He looked toward the city.
“I've been waiting here for a very long time.”
